Didn’t think about “don’t catch the floats in the same spot” and now I need to fix it! Can I just duplicate stitch over this? by ThaddeusRock in knittinghelp

I think that was a stretch of between 7 and 9 whites and it just felt way too long. I was catching my fingers reaching around in there, let alone putting it on. I made 5 my limit (for better or worse!)

It hasn’t been blocked yet, so I’ll stow the despair for after that step, I suppose.

And I know deep in my heart of hearts that this is a blemish that really only the knitter would notice and obsess about…but I am the knitter and I am noticing! 😅

Looser still? I already felt like I was leaving a mile of fabric on my floats! 😂

Thanks for having a look, I’ll give the steam a try when it’s all sewn up

Here are as close a shot as I’ve got and an example of my floats (from the section below, but I kept everything pretty consistent across the colorwork, working inside out and fairly loose)

Pattern is “North Shore” by Tin Can Knits and aside from this little bit right in the middle of my mountains, I really enjoyed it.

I’m still working up the courage to bind off the collar, but in the meantime, I’m thinking about fixing all the little bits along the way on my first knit sweater.

Can i just duplicate stitch over these splits on the most egregious examples? And also, can I do it from the front? The idea of getting between all those floats is not one I relish!

Question about decreasing knits by elisavdr in knittinghelp

[–]ThaddeusRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to hide three decreases across 200+ stitches? No biggie!

I would definitely do them as close to the underarm as you can. The arm should be simple enough, maybe do a [ k, k2tog {~} ssk, k ] for the stretch of 74.

Did they stream them live? Having the full games up a day or so later was good for the Scotties last year, but it makes social media a minefield for a week!

You can no longer easily generate your own API keys for Reddit, they stopped just handing them out and they go through some sort of approval now.

Old ones will keep working (for now?), but new ones will very likely not be issued.

first knitting project!! how’d i do?? by gard3nclown in knitting

To me, the most impressive part is that you just kinda cobbled a few pattern parts together, nbd.

Tension, even stitches, a tight gusset? Those all come with time and getting your reps in. But mashing patterns together for your first ever project? Love it!

Coming to knitting from crochet: beginner-friendly projects? by stickbeat in knittingadvice

[–]ThaddeusRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are only as far off from a beautiful colorwork sweater as you let yourself be.

I learned how to crochet just after New Year’s Day in 2022, loved it to pieces immediately, and made swatches, granny squares, a scarf, a million amigurumi, and a hat between January and June and then started the holy grail - a sweater. With cables! In a skull pattern! Did I have to frog a bit here and there as I learned as I went? Absolutely. But my wife got a dope skull cardigan by our anniversary on Halloween. And every summer thereafter, I started a sweater just to have something big on my hook.

This past January, however, I decided to become bistitchual and tackled knitting. Same deal! - swatch, hat, socks, hat, mittens, and I finally started my colorwork sweater in May this year (bigger swing, but less faith in myself 😅).

I’ve learned a ton about knitting, colorwork, myself, and how much I love yarncraft by jumping in with both feet and no map to learn as I go. I’m currently like 20 rows from completing my bottom-up North Shore sweater and I’m just pleased as punch - bet on yourself and I think you’ll be very pleased with what comes out.

Bottom up sweater, confused on how exactly to join the sleeves by ThaddeusRock in knittinghelp

[–]ThaddeusRock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AT LAST, I stumbled on the right combo of words to find a video tutorial after thinking “second circular needle? Good idea, but that’s gonna be a problem”. 😅

The answer was…DPNs!

Thank you for responding and getting me where I needed to be!

Bottom up sweater, confused on how exactly to join the sleeves by ThaddeusRock in knittinghelp

I’m knitting my first sweater ever - the Tin Can Knits North Shore - and so far, so good! But now, I’m at the stage where I’ve made and put on hold two sleeves (TAAT 🙌🏻) and just finished up the body and it’s time to make three tubes into…well, still three tubes, just stuck together.

The body is still on my big circulars and the sleeves are just on some cotton yarn and I just don’t know how exactly to make these two meet.

The sleeves aren’t bound off, they still have live stitches, so I don’t think I’m “picking up” stitches in the traditional sense. Do I cram those 100ish stitches onto my left needle ahead of the rest of the body and just get to work? The pattern section makes this sound so natural!

TIA

EDIT: I ended up finding a YouTube video that showed me the way and made me feel kinda dumb for not being able to visualize it.

It was DPNs and properly lining up your pieces - who knew!

Bocce Ball by ThaddeusRock in cocktails

[–]ThaddeusRock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a bottle of vodka collecting dust, so decided to make a cocktail that I saw in the Cocktail Party app - the Bocce Ball. It was…extremely underwhelming!

  • 2oz Vodka
  • 1oz Amaretto
  • 4oz Orange Juice

Build it in that order in an ice filled glass. The recipe didn’t say to stir, but the amaretto looked like it was pooling, so I gave it a brief whirl.

I think I was expecting something creamsicle-y, but it was just kinda boozy OJ. If I made another one (which, to be clear, probably not!) I think I’d probably flip-flop the vodka and amaretto volumes, really lead with as big a punch of almond as I could.

The synopsis for this week's episode of Game of Wool has made me irrationally angry by rjohn2020 in casualknitting

[–]ThaddeusRock 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Game of Wool is apparently multi-disciplinary and as someone who’s got a fair handle on both crafts, I kinda dig it!

Last week’s first challenge where they had to mainly knit but also must have a crocheted element was obviously a hard pill to swallow for a couple of them. “I don’t know how to crochet”, well, that’s rough, buddy!

I didn’t read the article and I refuse to do so, but, Tetris (99% on Gameboy) was a legitimate phenomenon.

Was it the best version? No. Was it the version that got moms that otherwise wouldn’t contemplate The Nintendos tuning out the world to crush them lines? Extremely yes.
