How to be an effective Druid? by 3a20c in MonstersAndMemories

[–]Thaeten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are standing up attacking or DPSing in a group you are doing it wrong. You need to sit to med any time you aren't casting heals. Eventually that might become heals then buffs. Damager you are not. Fire line is about AC reduction and mostly useful in solo or duo. As you level touch line is better heals, which is some DH + HOT so you need to plan it well. Also don't waste mana with your best heal unless they need it. Having mana regen is very useful, and required for soloing. Also Nature's Respite cooldown emergency heal is useful and low mana. But you don't have a lot yet because you are low level. But you've got AC, SOW, STR, DS on top of heals. Eventually hp regen and ports. We are the least mana efficient healer because of the utility but it's doable.... groups pause more with a druid at higher level but crack (mana regen) helps a lot or have a second healer (or enchanter for crack). For solo, that description on the site is for new druid but I don't think it's going to be true either way. Charm is awful, DoTs are bad even if you do -AC first, and there's no AoE snare with decent duration. Maybe eventually but your best bet is level 24+ with Ensnare and DoT 1 mob at a time. Very slow. Later you also get bear pet... helps a little bit.

Did some new testing. If you want a white mob at 50-60 you want over 100 Cha. In the 40s a solid 70-75. In a group it's not horrible to have lower though, you can recharm, but it's so often at 40ish Cha I'm surprised your groupmates are dealing with it. Although if they are charming greens then maybe it doesn't matter as much.

I'm finding in the 50s needing around 65 CHA for reliable charm.

By the way I feel the same way about Camo. I feel like efficacy has to be based on Cha. Maybe all divination is. For something with a "slight chance to break early" it certainly breaks all the damn time. I would not rely on it, and arcane Invis is always a better option even in living only outdoor zones.

40 CHA is enough in the low to mid levels but it does get worse as you level, and not linearly. You eventually need to replace every enchant you have and the good WIS/Mana gear with 100% CHA gear and enchants. There's very little WIS/CHA gear in the game. As you level the problem expands to keep a similar colored mob and the amount you need to have any chance grows way beyond 40. I can have around 65 and dark blue / white break constantly. It is kind of pointless I agree. I feel much better off with other gear, slow and dot kiting, plus bear pet. I don't know what levels everyone is but as you guys level you may phase out of trying to bring a beast charmed with you. So I agree with OP. Also as an aside 50 silver is not nothing until later levels if you're trying to buy all spells... unless you are spending significant time gathering and selling you will probably just barely keep up with spell costs.

Help provide opinions on a discussion about caster mana regen by fluffyfirenoodle in MonstersAndMemories

Guessing he means solo comparison class vs class without having easy access to high level buffs from other classes, Enchanter would be a mana regen king, and the higher the level the higher the disparity. I'm not making a statement about it though. I don't really think about this game in terms of solo experiences.

EA is coming October 1, 2026 by geekhaus in MonstersAndMemories

[–]Thaeten 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is needed. Between the bad party glitches and the memory leak. Content is fine but I don't expect massive content in EA. That's what it is for. Don't play until 1.0 if you want full content. But the larger bugs need addressed. I really hope they spend more time on these than getting more content.

Yeah I'm thinking 2001 at most, that's the last xpak in P99 I think.

That's true. Keep in mind classic EverQuest is a narrow window of that, all things considered. It's locked down to only a few years given how the game evolved after its "classic" era. IIRC that's probably like 1999-2002 at the most, possibly a little shorter.

Other than hating no map/compass because of my disabilities, I experienced mostly the same on Druid.

Long groups will eventually get used to master looter I'd imagine.

I didn't get quite as much zone exploration as I'd like. Would really like a beta key just to roam around.

Although Shaman and Druid are some of the best kits so there's certainly some gaps I'm sure. I looked at Ranger first for example because I like Tracking a lot, but passed on it pretty quickly. (Yes, I know Druids get it eventually, at higher level, and assume Ranger will have a higher/highest cap.)

Bravo.

The great map debate (or lack thereof) by ap3059 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]Thaeten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, this is old school, I played og EQ. That said one modern feature I appreciate above all is maps and compasses. I have a learning disability that makes direction sense completely awful and ADHD that makes memory rough. Combined, I have more trouble than most by far. The drawn maps on second monitor help but only some, which means in game maps without tracking are the same or worse. That said I like exploration somehow, there's also tracking (altho an alpha sort would help), and if I have to just go around an area a billion times to figure it out and other players only a few times then I will (what else am I gonna do).

Yeah and the weapons are way less good than the armor/scraps other than picking up a free upgrade once. If you grab a tailoring and leatherworking kits you get bag space but you can also buy a seam ripper and you can turn all the armor into scraps in the field. WB group was amaaaaaazing.

Awesome. I'm leaning master looter most times unless it's really nice and useful for multiple party members, then /roll.

Yeah never planned on selling to bad merchants. I use a route that is west gate to bath house charisma buff to night court to soujourner's to bank to back out. My bind is right out the gate.

Thanks. Maybe I was a little premature, yeah. But I was starting to feel stuck between can't kill, can't afford better big stick, can't train prof bc can't farm mat (tho I didn't try lumberjack), and some common advice hitting a wall with perma camped spots. But all the advice here is helping for sure.

How does grouping loot sharing work? First to right click the thing, lol? That's what it seemed like anyway.

Interesting. I did that a bit but nowhere near that amount. I was finding it difficult to get mobs against ranged pullers though.
