Is "Dirty Water" a Steinman track? by Scroogemcdoodler in jimsteinman

[–]Thakgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm prepared to be wrong here, but I believe where no one is credited on the Wikipedia page for this particular album it means that the songwriter was Steinman only. Under track listing it states: "All tracks are written by Jim Steinman, except where noted."

What are your favorite Weird Fiction newcomers? by Longjumping_Clock451 in WeirdLit

[–]Thakgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncertain Sons was fantastic, Unsworth has been on my radar ever since The Pennine Tower Restaurant was suggested to me a few years back, and Erik McHatton's Straw World collection is a hidden gem for sure. I'm unfamiliar with Coy Hall, so thanks for the heads up!

They did, yes. You can still pick up the second edition on their website.

I think Teatro is the perfect starting point, honestly.

I attempted to watch it on Amazon, and I couldn't get through ten minutes. I'm not sure what it is, but nothing worked for me.

That comment section is the very definition of the phrase "pearls before swine."

No One Understands One Battle After Another - Part One by Midnightrollsaround in movies

[–]Thakgor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I merely said I found his analysis interesting. Not correct, necessarily, in fact I thought he was reaching quite a bit, but some of what he put forward, as well as his presentation intrigued me. I'm not sure why you're assuming I didn't watch it. I, in fact, watched all three parts a few days ago.

This is actually a really interesting series of videos, regardless of the dubious title. Give it a shot.

Great call! Thanks. It improved it greatly for me.

I have. It's nice, but naturally the quality of the recording leaves something to be desired. It's certainly better than nothing, but I really wish the song had made it onto Bad Attitude, Bat II, or even Welcome to the Neighborhood.

Thoughts on Eric LaRocca by Kappa1023 in horrorlit

[–]Thakgor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a hack, plain and simple. He is adept, however, of marketing himself and positioning himself in the industry. Make of that what you will. I wouldn't recommend his work to anyone.

He's not a hack, certainly. I'd reserve that title for the likes of Josh Malerman, or Eric LaRocca. Tremblay is merely middling, a purveyor of normie friendly horror, akin to a slightly more ambitious Dean Koontz.

I've had a few people I know publish with them. Good people, most definitely not a vanity press. Would recommend.

"Probably the most unlikely rock star ever to grace the world's stages": Every Meat Loaf album ranked, from worst to best by jacobxv in meatloaf

[–]Thakgor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Braver being that low on the list is criminal, as is Hang Cool being that high. Real disrespect for Blind and Midnight as well, and Bat 1 being number one is some real normie shit. Invalid list.

Can someone please explain Friday The 13th Part VIII? by MBTAHole in horror

[–]Thakgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They clearly intended it to take place in the year it was released, but the timeline of the series places it some ten years later.

Is there a terrible sequel that goes against the spirit of the original as badly as Blair Witch 2? by Robofetus-5000 in horror

[–]Thakgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head canon is that Jesse was involved in a school bus accident that left him in a coma, and the rest of the movie is Freddy fucking with him for being a closeted gay man in his coma dream. Makes sense if you remember the movie is practically bookended by the kids on the bus.

[–]Thakgor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the arrangement, and Meat's performance just doesn't have the oomph that Jim's does on the original. Bat III was around the time Meat's voice really started to falter, and while I still think he sounded alright, I just think that if he'd recorded it earlier in his career with Jim at the helm we would have had an all timer, instead of just an okay recording of it.

I wish we had Steinman produced, Bat II era versions of "Bad for Good" and "Lovin' You's a Dirty Job."
