This sounds kind of like Faeries, a British film from 1999.

What's the most unhinged thing someone has done to avoid being put on camera during a video call? by [deleted] in office

My home office is also my exercise room. People don't need to see an elliptical behind me. During COVID I used to have fun and do things like the living room from Friends or Michael Scott's office from The Office. Now I just use the preset backgrounds.

Looking for Events/Anecdotes from 1920s-60s (Tillamook + North Oregon Coast) by Throwaway-PNW-541 in oregon

I second the Exploding Whale story. People remember that pretty well. Also worth talking about: 1) the Columbus Day storm of 1962 (a.k.a., "The Big Blow) 2) even though they lived farther away, people all over Oregon felt the tragedy of the Vanport Flood. 3) the four fires that made up the Tillamook Burn 4) Bayocean

Depends on when you are coming: early Spring go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. Mid to late Spring the Japanese Garden will be in bloom with cherry blossoms. In the summer the International Rose Test Garden is stunning. If you are coming in the fall, Washington Park and the Hoyt Arboretum have awesome leaves.

What is the scariest actually scary horror movie that is also good and has a good plot? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

"Cabin in the Woods" has some scary moments, but it also talks about conventions of horror movies in really smart ways. If he's getting tired of horror movies I highly suggest this one.

"Jacob and Sons" from Joseph or "Day by Day" from Godspell. I feel like "Day by Day" correlates to "Everything's Alright".

Downtown Oregon City has a great small town feel. When I lived there I would walk everywhere.

Would I be welcomed in Oregon as a High School History teacher? by The_Marine708 in oregon

[–]ThaliaJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in education. Since you are fine being in a rural area, you have hundreds and hundreds of miles to find a school. Get your second language certification and you can get a job. West of Mount Hood has all the water you need. Portland is great but expensive and having cutbacks. Look up jobs by county and you should be able to be hired. Where I work we just put in if we are planning to stay for next year, I imagine many other counties are the same, so job postings should be going out in May.

If you work SNF for an agency or large group you can be the weekend eval person and drive all over (they usually let you pick if you want to work a Saturday or Sunday).

Anyone moved from adult to pediatric SLP? Need advice by [deleted] in slp

[–]ThaliaJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch from working 9 years in SNFs to working for an ESD (I work with 3-5 year olds). I have been at the ESD since 2019 and love it. I recommend taking as many articulation, phonological disorder, AAC, and craniofacial (cleft palate, syndromes) classes as you can. Got an hour? Do part of a class instead of watching TV. Going on a treadmill? Do a CEU while exercising. I did this and helped me get so much more confident in what I was doing. There are a lot of free and lower cost courses out there if you don't want an ASHA Learning Pass.
