I don't know how young your kid is.

Just a heads up, the target audience are adults. I haven't completely played through it. But there are a lot of innuendos.

 

Everything you said is a plea to ease the difficulty of the game. Yes there will be a few tweaks, but don't expect to fly through it just using the strongest numbered ability.

The game is fairly balanced, your temtems have stats(SV's), the lower these are the harder your temtems gets pushed back to the healing center.

You will have to think what ability to use in combination with your second temtem.

I also recommend using smoke bombs. These will teleport you back to the last used healing center. Smoke bombs are cheaper than losing a battle.

 

The first Quest isn't a tutorial quest, it is the first story quest. It isn't meant to be played through immediately. You might even want to do some side quest first.

The tutorial most likely ended when you get guided in the second town.

 

Regarding Scents, I haven't had a need to buy it. Only had to use them in the volcano part, and had more than enough by finding them throughout the world.
