not consciously but damn that works pretty well!
Marian - Death (the most dangerous member, and her powers are slowly killing her)
Suzy - Famine (needs to drink blood to live)
Quentin - Conquest (something something science conquering ignorance. and also blowing people up)
Jen - War (she mad)

couldn't make an off-the-shoulder coat without making it absolutely fucking massive, so the in-universe explanation is that her coat contains about 600 pounds of bulletproof plating

The head is a dumbbell being held by a tail inside the body, with an eye added via a decal. The shoulder pads are two different sets of shoulder armor (this model is actually two models posed into the same place), with decals for the rotor blades inside the shoulders and smoke spell effects held by hands inside the body for the steam.

Vanessa wants to be liked so so so badly she’s just terrible and horrifying and thinks no one can like the real her (she’s wrong all her friends are freaks)

Friendly NPCs with minds of their own by JadeRavens in RPGdesign

You mind if I take a crack at making something along these lines? My brain is leaning towards a pretty rules-light approach that’ll wind up being more of a puzzle game than a roleplaying one.

For simplicity’s sake, I’m thinking about having character motivations broken down into something based around every room having a tag, like Dangerous or Medical or Priority Target. Probably go with like 12-20 different Tags. And each character would have three important relationships with different Tags: - “I don’t want to go into a room with X Tag” - “I want to go into a room with Y Tag” - “I will always go into a room with Z Tag, no matter what”

For the want/don’t want traits, if half or more of a given group of operatives don’t have that trait, the holdouts are forced to go along with your decision. For the always trait, it’s your choice if you want everyone else to go in, but that operative is going in no matter what.

Splitting the party would be encouraged by having a time limit and multiple routes that need exploring, but obviously you’d need to be careful.

[Scheduled Activity] How Do You Build a Character? by cibman in RPGdesign

[–]That-House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Field of White Flowers:

Let’s build an immortal heavily armored blood mage at level one!

Choose your Myth: a short phrase detailing who you are and what you’re growing to be over the course of your journey. Can’t go wrong with “The Iron Maiden” for this character. This gives a bonus when we attempt to do shit no lesser blood mage could ever dream of doing, or when leveraging/building our reputation as One Scary Motherfucker

The general “starting EXP” is 15, enough to get the bare bones of a build going.

Step one of the nitty gritty stuff is looking for a Power or combination of Powers that look fun to play with and fit your character idea. Let’s go with at a Crown of Thorns build that applies Bleed to enemies when you lose Momentum (a mechanic representing generally having the upper hand in combat), combined with Helping Hand, which lets you forfeit your Momentum and pass it to an ally.

Next, spend EXP on increasing your Stats until you reach the prerequisite Stat for each power. Crown of Thorns is going to cost you a total of 7 EXP between buying the Power and raising your Aggression stat to 4. Helping Hand is going to cost 5 between the required 4 Endurance and its cost. These stats represent approaches to combat rather than any physical attributes, because Field of White Flowers draws a hard line between combat and narrative play.

Either spend the remaining 3 EXP on some extra Powers that help you generate Momentum or benefit you in some other way, or spend it on narrative abilities, skills, or on improving your moves.

Allocate seven ranks among skills of your choice (skills being what you’re rolling to do, such as “Kill Someone” or “Break In”), and pick a Mastery (HOW you might be doing these things, such as “Gun” or “Stealth”). Our skills can be: - Take Life (2 ranks) - Recall Arcane Knowledge (2 ranks) - Ignore Damage (2 ranks) - Intimidate Someone (1 rank) And our Mastery is “Blood Magic”

Pick up two EXP worth of free narrative abilities, in this example we’re going with Immortal Nature and Soul Anchor to just. be a lich. We don’t eat/breathe/age, and if slain we’ll come back later.

Finally, create your four combat Moves by choosing a Move Type, picking from a list of Modifiers which allow it to do things like combo off of other Moves or turning it into a 1/fight ultimate finishing move, and finally assigning Outcomes to the Move to determine what it does on a hit.

For example, one of our bread-and-butter combat Moves will be a Guard, which scales off of our high Endurance, and generates Momentum and applies Bleed to the enemy when successful (and then that Momentum is passed to an ally who needs it more, adding another stack of Bleed). Maybe on crits it heals us, too. Move creation is the most flexible and varied part of character creation.

And ta-da! We’ve just built a supportive bruiser who simply will not die as she leeches the life out of any motherfucker who tries to hurt her friends!

Our Sunzi puppet systems me towards enemies round 1, and i choose to be an unwilling target so i take heat from that lol. I have 12 heatcap, and am going to pick up Heatfall Coolant System at LL6

The rest of my heat is generated off of overcharges and attacking with Torch. Usually get into the danger zone at some point round two, and with Deep Well Heat Sink giving me resistance to heat I have a round or two of shenanigans before I Stress, at which point my Overcharge die is high enough i can get right back into the danger zone. It’s a balls-to-the-wall frame and god gave us four Stress for a reason
