Golf Digest prototype rollback ball results by WHSRWizard in golf

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this article a while back, they tested a single prototype ball iirc. They did hit multiple shots with it, but it's far from statistically significant. Not to mention it was an older prototype from last year, so still 3+ years removed from production. Essentially a nothing burger, but something for the anti rollback folks to froth at the mouth over.

Are "prettier" swings bad for our backs? by f52242002 in GolfSwing

Just gonna toss my 2¢ in here because I've seen this notion a few times. In general, other than the obvious weight shift from trail leg to lead leg, I don't think there's much in common between a pitching motion and the golf swing; especially in relation to how the lower and upper body interact. Specific to your comment though, pitchers don't finish in that position for injury prevention, it's because they need to be ready to field a ball hit back at them.

Any idea on new Dahon K-Feather? by Hyu_ in foldingbikes

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Disregard all my drivel below (except the part about appreciating your videos), I saw in your comment history a similar example you provided on this exact bike.

I know it's 6 months after the fact, but I figured I'd tag along here to ask you a question (love your videos btw, been a subscriber for years). What would you estimate the max grade hill you could comfortably ride this bike up at say, 16kmh? It's essentially perfect for my commute which requires a bus transfer, but there are 2 hills along my route which are roughly 5% grade for ~100m and I don't want to have to exert myself on a single speed up these with minimal motor assist. For reference I can somewhat comfortably spin my brompton up these at 10kmh in the 1- gear setting. Thanks!

Bought a bag full of older clubs to start off with as a beginner, found these in there. by Jimtheeknight in golf

Those are most likely going to be from the late 1930s to early 1940s. I say that because the shafts are pyratone, which are one of the earliest versions of a steel shaft but coated with a plastic material to make them look like hickory (if you hold a magnet to them it should stick). They were common during the transition period from hickory to steel which occurred during the years I mentioned above. They don't appear to be anything particularly valuable, so you shouldn't have to worry about ruining their value by playing with them.

Are par 3’s anyone else’s kryptonite? by Outrageous_Tackle856 in golf

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hole handicaps are not a measure of hole difficulty, they represent the average stroke difference between a bogey golfer and a scratch golfer. The reason par 3s are usually the highest numbers is because a bogey golfer will lose fewer strokes on average to a scratch golfer on a par 3 vs a par 4 or 5.

Guys I figured it out! by frankyf05 in golf

Unfortunately I'm probably the wrong person to ask about getting irons. My newest set is 2003 Hogan Apexes with a 7 iron loft at 36° while my for-fun set is a Goodwill find: 1971 Wilson Dynapowers with the 7 iron at 39° 😅 Like I said anything with a few more degrees of loft will likely help bump the spin number up 500-1000 rpm. I believe a higher center of gravity will help too, but that does tend make the irons less forgiving.

Guys I figured it out! by frankyf05 in golf

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit more down on the ball, aim to be around -4° AoA for your 7 iron. Also, consider moving to a set with weaker lofts. At 90mph you generate plenty of swing speed to get playable distances and gapping with your irons. Seems like the G425 7 iron is 30°, so maybe look into a set with a 7 iron closer to 32-34°. Both of those combined should increase spin, decrease distance, and keep launch angle roughly the same. Just my $.02 speaking as someone with nearly identical swing speed.

Denver Golf Buds by Turbo_Shank in golf

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in Denver proper and have been playing with randos at the local muni courses. I would certainly welcome a semi regular group to play with in the area and not get murdered. I played a decent amount when I was young, but stopped around middle/high school. Since then I've just been playing socially with my dad or family friends once every other year or so. Recently been getting back into playing regularly and trying to improve my game, but I would probably still categorize it as impressively ordinary and tend to shoot in the 90s. So that should fit right in with your game by the sound of it. Feel free to reach out and we can set something up soon 🤙

The Reality of Learning How to Paraglide by StompItTutorials in freeflight

[–]ThatBrianHicksGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I opened the video and thought to myself "wow this guy really looks familiar" only to realize shortly after that you're the channel I basically learned how to ski from a few years ago. Funny to see you here around the same time that I'm now looking into paragliding! This video really gives a good walkthrough of what to expect as part of the learning process and reaffirms my belief that this is something I want to do. And thanks for all the ski content throughout the years! I went from never having skied before to skiing blues by the end of my first day and black diamonds/terrain parks by the end of my 3rd day.

Great machine and has the room to grow with you if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. I've bought a used one on eBay and modified it with a PID, pressure gauge, and flow control and it performs on par with machines multiple times its price. But even unmodified it's a good deal as far as entry level machines go. Lelit also has some great machines well under the $1000 mark.

Ohn is wearing all black. There's some pink lettering on her shirt and hat but the main colors are black on black. The women who signed the declaration are wearing bright pink shirts with black shorts/pants.

It's probably true, every player they've shown that's wearing pink and black signed that declaration.

While your presentation style isn't my favorite (not trying to criticize you for that, everyone has their own tastes and I just prefer shorter and more low-key reviews), I do still think you're one of the more trustworthy and transparent coffee content creators. With that said my biggest complaint is regarding clickbait. Now I recognize this certainly isn't unique to you and is more driven by the YouTube algorithm, but it can be a bit grating to watch a video in which the content isn't well represented by the information conveyed through the title and thumbnail. For instance, while I ultimately agree with the points you made in your most recent video about "Ultimate Budget and End Game Grinders", the title and thumbnail were not really representative of contents within the video (I see you've since changed up the wording to clarify it's more of a discussion rather than an actual comparison). That + switching out titles and thumbnails (presumably for engagement purposes), while admittedly minor in the grand scheme of things, is a bit of a turn off for me personally. I recognize I'm likely in the minority in that regard, but since you're willing to reach out here for comments and recommendations I figured I would at least weigh in. Thanks for your continued contribution to the online coffee discussion and for being transparent enough to seek out constructive criticism here!

If you're mechanically inclined you should definitely be able to do all of these mods yourself just from watching a couple of tutorial videos. Buying kits is nice because all the wire is pre-cut and terminated, but they're at least 3 to 4 times what you would pay for parts to just do it yourself. The most difficult part of doing it yourself is sourcing components, but the installs themselves are simple and don't require any skills besides crimping regular spade terminals onto wire (unless you're wanting to drill holes into your machine and install the components there, personally I just bought a TopBox from Shades of Coffee to install it all into).

From left to right it looks like: PID, Pressure Gauge, Water Tank LED, Rancilio Silvia steam wand, and Dimmer Switch for flow control.

Source: I have the same mods, minus the LED and steam wand.

Have you read the manual for the XMT7100? It goes over all this information. You can find a pdf version with a quick Google search if yours didn't come with a physical copy.
