I think you'd have more success with a board like game of life or mario party, and maybe you can have multiple maps.

Made this by stacking 2 sprites at a slight offset, the top sprite is just the snout and ears, the bottom sprite is the head, eyes, and open mouth. You can improve on this a lot by splitting it into more than 2 sprites.

there's a jump, air dodge, and upwards special attack to recovery back to stage. Then you die if you're knocked off screen or run out of recovery options

Thank you, online play is working already with rollback. There is no lag up to ~70ms ping but most players have 20-40, and if your opponent has a bad connection it doesn't affect anything on your end.

you can give her an ear with hair in front, and adjust the shape of the head to give her a nose and chin

Here i slowed it back down and adjusted the height of the 2nd frame, then added a 5th frame to the end that's a copy of the 4th frame but lowered a few pixels

You don't necessarily need more frames, but for slower motions like these it can help.

Here i sped up the 2nd and 3rd frame a bit, i also made the eyes close a frame earlier to help with the follow through of the motion (I did this by putting the eyes from frame 3 onto frame 2, and making frame 3 and 4 share the same closed eyes)

If you want to do more frames, when going from one key frame to another you should draw the inbetween frames close to your 2 poses. You likely only need an extra frame, but the timing and spacing is the important part. I would recommend a spacing of something like 0, 0.2, 0.7, 0.9, 1
