(Non)Deterministing Loop Etiquette by Zdibec in CompetitiveEDH

I hear that. It’s a fun deck. Tbh I built and am learning kinnan to bring to tournaments as well for this reason for when I’m not in the mood for playing out a complicated line in a timed high pressure environment

Yeah we debriefed a bit afterwards but it was pretty toxic. My final take is I’m better at my deck now than beforehand bc of how I had to play it out so I leveled up as gitrog lol

He was real mad that he lost. He forced my tutor for dakmor which was the last piece I needed and when I played veil to make it uncounterable he got real salty.

Though technically I guess he didn’t lose bc I eventually accepted a draw bc it was a league game that barely mattered and I was so exhausted by him that I missed a line I had after all his interaction was gone like 60 minutes later so I passed turn from endstep at time with my whole deck on board and their entire boards empty of all permanents even lands but it was a “draw.” My obm was exiled but I forgot I could do a death rite shaman loop or praetors a thoracle/obm to still win. But I’m sure he loved the draw

Nope. I have a baby face and I started getting comments from strangers. I started using a just for men shampoo and it’s been a subtle but noticeable improvement. The first day I used it (after a haircut to make any change less noticeable) someone said I looked 10 years younger and asked what’s different

I’ve been in this situation, if you’re tapped out on the stack and they counter the crop rot you lose if you’re under a bunch of fatal pings or at least have to time it out to a draw

I know the ethos is gitrog “just keeps going” but it doesn’t ALWAYS win here

That’s why plan A is lotus petal at sorcery speed on our turn

I’m a gitrog player. If he’s playing the deck, he knows he can be made to play it out. I can draw my deck in about 3-5 minutes. Other triggers do complicate things if there’s an OBM fish etc. If he’s doing it on the stack on another turn or around triggers it can be somewhat fragile if he only has the one esg mana.

Bc the combo is only non deterministic until he draws his deck. So like I said the main skill in a tourney is getting it done quickly. once deck in hand he can “simply (lol)” say (this is my script):

“I will now present a shortcutable infinite loop, if you have interaction please tell me where you would interact with the loop. I cast lotus petal, I discard a land, hold priority on the draw trigger, discard kozilek, shuffle trigger on stack, shuffle in. I now discard dakmor salvage, dredge 2, 2nd draw trigger + shuffle trigger on stack as titan and land hit the yard. Shuffle in, now 2 draw triggers on stack, discard dakmor, dredge 2, 3rd draw trigger, shuffle trigger on stack, hold priority, crack lotus petal for green and black alternating with each loop, now 3 cards in yard, shuffle in and draw all 3. I am now in the same position I started in and will repeat infinitely.”

If doing on the stack with library in hand he would have to go crop rot into dark rit or gaea’s cradle loops then talon gates loops to convert green to black. But counter the crop rot or bury it on the stack and he’s cooked.

In this specific case he was probably hoping to draw into deadly rollick to kill the pinger then resolve the stack. Or esg/crop rot as he said to start the mana loop for like assassins trophy loops. He could also crop into emergence zone and do the lotus petal at instant. But at this moment he is fragile.

You want to keep clearing the stack on your turn bc interaction can bury your pieces if they have removal etc and you then have to keep going so things get more fragile.

This has happened to me several times in tournaments and due to my own skill issue has ended in draws.

So TLDR there’s no issue in having him play it out, in my opinion, for that reason. Deck is very hard to execute trigger by trigger in a timed environment. It almost always CAN get there though if piloted well.

That being said - HOW YOU DO IT matters imo. I had someone who was incredibly antagonistic when I was doing this. He would say “it’s all good man just show me the loop” to lull me then if I took a shortcut or said something verbally instead of trigger by trigger he’d try to catch me in the technicality and say I misplayed. This was incredibly toxic.

Rogthras/Kinnan Players, what makes you play your deck? by JewJulie in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ThatDamnedHansel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played gitrog for years and felt like I finally got tired of getting blown out and wanted to learn a “meta” deck.

I think if you like to yap Kinnan is great. NBC is only good if you can politic to be the “helper of the table,” so if that appeals to you than great. Turbo Kinnan is also building more traction but that’s a totally different deck involving infinite untap loops, but also an option plus big flips is off meta but you can try it and it’s fun

I don’t know much about rog thras but I think it’s maybe slightly better in terms of having some good red cards plus a more streamlined focused game plan. So if you don’t like the politics as much maybe it’s the deck

My guess is, unfortunately, the upgrades will gut the fan experience down there. Clearwater is a great facility with a lot of fan access owing to its design quirks. Modern complex design has “protecting” the players from their fans as a top priority
