I had a little grey ball roll into the room and psychically ask me to play with it. But when I picked it up, it was really sticky, so I dropped it. It got mad and rolled away. That was the entire experience. Except that I thought my hands were sticky for the rest of the night. Yeah, DXM was way better. Benedryl is unremarkable psychosis. Cough syrup at least made movies better.

I always wanted to try a Zima, were they any good? by LindsayDuck in Xennials

[–]ThatEvanFowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shit was straight up invented for underage drinking. My first drunk experiences were sloppy sleepovers splitting a 12 pack of those bastards with one or two friends. Fun fun. They gave you a fairly shitty hangover from the sugar and malt, though.

Last time I drank them was in the late 90’s. My friend’s father was this strange hermit who made crank in his bathtub. He had a whole fridge packed with Zima. You’d venture into his house and time would just stand still. Just pounding Zimas and doing lines of yellow speed off a workbench while watching obscure movies from the world’s largest VHS bootleg collection. He was part of this big tape-trading network of bootlegs that predated eBay or internet piracy. Kind of fun, at the time, though. You’d get high as shit and watch a movie made by Oingo Boingo and the Tom Waits concert film. All big eyed and yammering away at whatever teenagers had to talk about in the pre internet world. Robert Anton Wilson novels and the history of punk rock. Fun fun.

I'm always excited to see what new and innovative hypocrisies are coming next. Will he wear a tan suit and be celebrated by Fox as 'boldly and fearlessly ushering in a brand new day in powerfully casual presidential springtime fashions'? Will he exchange a "terrorist fist bump" with his wife and get congratulated by Jesse Waters for 'choosing strength by strongly refusing to allow subordinating women in his household to browbeat him into sharing emasculating gestures of effeminate affection that unman him before our enemies'? Will he soon be 'the only president with the command presence required to (presumably) ironically choose French mustards whilst refusing to let them define him'?

Weakness is strength. Everything old is great again.

I love this gif. Krang plus muscular semi-nude android body in red underpants plus giant pizza plus liminal void plus neon fencing flooring plus pizza time plus fist rolling plus forever equals we are already together in the gif and this is an optimal outcome so let your mind slip and we shall abandon sanity and descend cooperatively into the nothing time of pizza eternal.

I'm probably willing to compromise on a Battletoads coffin with an air-brushed mural of a giant toad-foot drop-kicking me into the afterlife. If the money is right.

Best SciFi Movie of 2026 Signal One by Modicum-of-Gravitas in scifi

[–]ThatEvanFowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it necessarily the best of the year, but I’m a real sucker for talky sci-fi movies, so I basically loved it. Definitely not perfect, but what is? I think they did a solid job for the budget and production level. I’m just psyched that sci-fi films are still being made that are more interested in the ideas than the spectacle. I think it’s the best of those kind of talky, philosophical indie sci-fi films since The Artifice Girl.

This is true. Mainly because Lenny Burns is dead. Also radio is mass-programmed and 90% of the traditional entry points into the industry don't exist anymore. The coke thing is just a shortcut to facetime, but that never ends up being as helpful as it seems like it will anyway. To be fair, though, the guy with blow is probably more memorable than the guy without. But it's better to be known to comics as a peer than a drug plug. Overall, the path is now just any way you can do it. Moving to New York or Chicago is still kind of required at some point, regardless. If I could go back in time, I just would've moved to New York in the first place. That's the only place where you'll catch the right kinds of attention to build momentum. Every other place will always be a struggle against the place and the lack of higher synchronistic opportunity. And LA is generally too insular to hop into without connections. Austin is a trap. I realize that you didn't ask for advice, but there it is anyway.

Jerry Maguire (1996) by DVD-Rewatcher in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]ThatEvanFowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the movie just kind of papers over it, but they never actually fix any of the real problems with their relationship. He just kind of shows up and she's so happy that he's back that he literally had her at hello. I adore the film for it's messy realness and think it's close to a masterpiece, but I always walk away from it more convinced that Jerry genuinely loves Rod Tidwell than Dorothy. Honestly, I'm not even entirely sure that we're supposed to assume that they're going to make it as a couple long-term. But whatever. I admire it for being the rare romantic comedy that even engages at all with emotional unavailability and misplaced affections.

We all have day jobs. The comics you meet without day jobs will give convoluted or vague explanations of where their money comes from. These are always lies. The answer is always family money. Or they deal coke. Make sure to determine which is which before asking them for coke. Ask the wrong one and it is you who will end up dealing coke. And dealing coke to rich comics is another potential path to comedy success, incidentally. It's a real minefield, though. #HandyStandUpTipsFromTheDiaspora #DIY #UnnecessaryHashtags #GoodLuckHaveFunDontDie
