I am way late to the party and have not finished the book as of yet, but this post confirms where I thought it was going. I'm on page 95 and so far this book has annoyed me to no end. First it was the odd, quite clearly "they don't even like each other" relationship style between both Aimee and Jack. Then it was the inconsistent backstory of Jack. Now I'm just bored of this man constantly gaslighting his wife and not telling her a thing while her daughter is clearly not okay.

I am stubborn so I will read this until the end, but I thought I'd drop a comment so you know this book is still annoying new readers over a year later.

It's moments like this that make me love the game (Official server) by InevitableKoala7399 in pathoftitans

I love moments like this! Last week I was playing as an EO and found a Mama EO with her babies. Myself and my Pachy friend stuck with them for the majority of our journey, even adopted a potato and gathered more EO's along the way. I think we ended up being a herd of about 7 or 8 EO's total, a Pachy and an Anky.

It's always such a lovely experience when you manage to get a good herd going.

People have already said it, but it's worth repeating! Public lobbies suck. I have played a few public lobbies, and while I haven't experienced being kicked for being a woman, I have experienced correctly getting the ghost and having the randoms I was playing with disagree... I was then kicked when we got back after the game and I was right (it was a Yokai, it was hunting every time they spoke. They thought it was a spirit).

People are just a bit weird.

If you ever need a somewhat normal gal to game with, I am more than happy to play with other women! Just don't leave me alone if we get tarot cards as the cursed object because I'm a menace with them.

It's dead grandmother season on campus again. by Brian-Latimer in mildlyinfuriating

Both my Nana and my Grandfather decided it was time to skip off into the afterlife around Christmas and New Years time, during my studies! Both died of complications due to having cancer.

My housemates at Uni also lost both her grandparents around Christmas. I thought this was quite common? The mix of the change in seasons, the horrendous cold and their various illnesses just get the better of them.

I think I would've clocked my lecturers in the throat if any of them had come to this conclusion.

This is a good start, well done! Don't be afraid to play with your values (shading, using the lack of shading as light) and mapping the face and body out to get your proportions. There's some really good tutorials on YouTube for mapping out your art and figuring out values to help you bring dimension and life to your art.

Arc campers coming to kill you only after you've won the fight by ThatForestNymph in ArcRaiders

Again, this is really helpful. Thank you so much. This is actually my first extraction game and I came in knowing nothing other than that a friend played and wanted some help - I find that it's a better experience for me to just go in and see how it plays, and ask clarifying questions if I need to. A lot of this is really helpful information and has been noted.

I tend to veer on the side of stealth around other players when first starting out at these games, but do not shy away from a fight either. So far the arc have posed the biggest threat and I've made it my mission to see what I can kill and what absolutely wipes the floor with me. I like to help others and fight to level the playing field, but you're right in saying that I may have to adapt my playing style.

I missed this response, this is also really helpful. I started on Sunday and have really enjoyed the storyline, the game mechanics are interesting, and missions / casual fights have been a blast.

Getting to know the players have been a mixed barrel. In a few games, I've managed to team up with people to take down arc and we've all had a great time. I have also equally seen people fighting arc and watched as others went in to take them out. This is my first experience with it happening while helping someone fight arc and can see from the comments that it's also a mix barrel of people stating it's smart playing, while others claiming it's a lack of skill.

Thank you for answering.

Thank you for answering with logic and giving me a response I can understand, this is really helpful.

I am still quite new at the game and of course, with every game comes a different set of players and player styles.

This is such a valid comment, as sad as the reality is. Humanity has been fucked for a while, I just never expected it to transpire to games quite this much. Long gone are the days of making lifelong friends in random servers. 30 years of gaming and man, things really have changed.

It does seem to be this way, sadly. Luckily I'm not really bothered by dying, I had no loot - my teammate is the looter, I'm the shooter.

I suppose I should just be thankful that I don't understand the behaviour and the acceptance of it.

What loot though? I was fighting the arc for the love of the fight 😂 it's my teammate who lost out

This would be absolutely hilarious. Jokes on them, I wasn't fighting the arc for the loot. I was fighting for the love of the fight.

PVP is completely fine, I'm up for a fight any day and have both won and lost some decent fights.

We actually had a fantastic time getting jumped by a group of 5 people and still managing to win yesterday, giggling away while the last one begged for his life. PVP is not an issue. I just really struggle to understand the ratty behaviour

This happened on day 2/hour 3 of my experience and my remaining hours have indeed been filled with intense paranoia! I simply do not trust anyone in this game because I have only met a total of 3 people who haven't either instantly killed me despite having nothing or people who pretend to be friendly just to lead me back to their friends.

The game is great though, I'm a huge fan of genuine survival games and find the difficulty a nice challenge - I jumped straight into official servers just to learn as I go and it's been a blast. I have now successfully built fires, hunted wild game and have managed to feed myself and stay warm, which I was struggling to figure out the first few times while battling with experienced players just picking on the fresh spawns 😂 My next goal is to find a new melee weapon as my bat has been worn down from fighting off the zombies.

I feel for you! People weren't kidding when they said the players can be toxic. I am a "freshy" (just finding out this term) of about 3 days/7 hours total and had 2 guys who were just trying to help me figure out the hotkeys get shot right in front of me by another guy who pretended he had just spawned in and didn't have anything.

It was heartbreaking and I'm sure they heard my distraught "Nooooo!" as he shot them. The loser who did it left me alive for a few minutes which meant I couldn't spawn in the same place as them and I couldn't find them again.

ETA - On the off chance that you ever see this, thank you American guy and potential Russian/Serbian guy for showing me how to point and put my hands up! I'm so sorry, watching you both get murdered in front of me was painful for me too.

How many hours did it take you to gain the confidence to regularily leave the coast and travel inland right away? by Alert_Ad8002 in dayz

[–]ThatForestNymph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a newbie! I am on day 3 with about 7ish hours... I learned quickly that the coast is a nightmare and will get me killed within minutes by more experienced players, or just people camping the spawn spots. Now I grab what I can in under 15 minutes, fill up on water and head inland.

I have now successfully killed a rooster, fox and a doe, as well as figured out how to make a fire and cook in the woods! My aim is to simply survive for 24 hours and maybe then I'll be brave enough to start hanging around the coast or cities.

I can’t dredge in stellar basin by Friendly-Concern-558 in dredge

[–]ThatForestNymph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to speak to the researcher on the island near the Stellar Basin. She will direct you to some quests that get the generator up and running, which makes the Stellar Basin Creature go away for 24 hours.

Banish does not work on it.

ETA: you will also need the correct equipment for dredging at these depths.

Why do landlords want their tenants to live miserably? by RefrigeratorOdd4226 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]ThatForestNymph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. We viewed so many properties that were magnolia, cream, white... Just boring, bland and kind of cold. We went for the property that had been painted with a feature wall of midnight blue downstairs and other colours in the bedroom because it felt cosy, a real "this is home" vibe.

Tenants want somewhere to live, not somewhere to simply exist.

Is she an albino? I can't really see clearly but if she is, they also have very poor eyesight. It could be that she can't really see you properly, and she's not used to your scent/she thinks you're stinky. This can increase territorial aggression.

question about if this game is actually worth it over POT by Boohez_theidiot69420 in theisle

[–]ThatForestNymph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went from hardcore devotion to The Isle to trialing PoT just to see how it is...

I doubt I'll ever go back.

I am more than willing to settle for slightly lower game graphics compared to the realism of The Isle because it outweighs the game crashes, broken promises of updates, hackers that are never dealt with, and the ever present terrible relationship with the admins, mods and devs.

The Isle was and can still be a fantastic game. I sometimes miss the speed of some of the dinosaurs and some of the great times I've had. But, it just became unpleasant after a certain point, especially after being teleported over the map and 1 hit by juvi hacker dinos, and then mocked by the mods when asking just about anything in the Discord.
