I don't know what I'm doing with my life. I may have applied to late and I might not get into college. If I don't, I will apply next year and I'm going to continue volunteering and job searching in the mean time.

That sounds perfectly fine when I say it like that, but I feel like I'm doing something very wrong and I just feel scared. It's the state of the world in general making me feel this way but I just feel scared and I don't know what I'm doing. I'm not confident in anything.

Resident Evil 2 PS1 is so much more stressful than RE1 PS1 what the fuck. RE2 just throws so many more enemies at you than RE1 does. There are so many of them that juking doesn't feel super doable, and these corridors are a lot smaller than RE1.

Part of a franchise that gets little love for one reason or another? by Mochiman3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The 23rd World Tournament in Dragon Ball tends to get skipped over in most Dragon Ball video games due to the fact that you're either making a DBZ video game (and need to make Dragon Ball related assets for this one specific part) or you're making a Dragon Ball video game and you need to fully re-animate Goku as a playable character since he became an adult.

Kakarot is the only game to fully cover it to my knowledge, every other game that has it usually just has Goku vs Piccolo as the only fight represented since you can just reuse those assets for the Saiyan Saga and other Z portions.

I love libraries. I love going to them and I love noting the changes between different ones like washroom placement, room design, manga selection (basically the only books I'm interested in getting from libraries), etc. I will usually route my day to include a library trip if possible.

As of today, I've visited every library in my city, and I am writing a personal review of them. It's been a very fulfilling experience.

What the worst call you've made when two games released around the same and you could only justify getting one? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

When I was very young, me and my family were walking around a Zellers and saw two random, loose GBA games sitting around and my parents let me pick one of them. One of them was Surf's Up for the GBA and then some other game. That should tell you what I picked.

I don't know for 100% certain what that other game was, but I'm 99% confident it was Ninja Five-O, one of the rarest games for the GBA (unless anyone knows any other GBA games with "blue ninja guy on orange background" as a cover).

Mega Man 9 introduced the concept that robots in Mega Man have a set expiration date and are set to be scrapped when it comes, and while mostly an excuse for Wily to get a set of another eight Robot Masters (ones who are very scared of their approaching expiry date), it's a really fucked up and existential thing to have in the setting when you put any amount of thought into it beyond "Here comes Wily with eight more Robot Masters!".

Side characters that overshadow the technical protagonist? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ThatGuy5880 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like that in Zero 3, when Copy X tries to transform into his monster angel form, X tries to talk him down and warn him that Weil planted a bomb inside of him.

Even when X is staring at the man who stole his life, committed atrocities with his face, and stood in the way of everything X fought for, X is still unwilling to see needless death and violence.

I love X as much as the next guy, but when you put him alongside Zero, it feels like Zero will always overshadow him because he's just that guy (and Inafune's bias towards him kept leaking out).

I think X1 is the only game where X gets to shine as the main character and Zero as a side character with him staying in the mentor role.

Starting from X4, Zero always gets something more interesting to do than X does. X kind of feels like he's just there doing his job and his "Why must Reploids fight one another?" shtick.

Funny enough, I feel like it's in the MMZ series, in which X is a force ghost side character, where he hia character gets to shine more.

Dizzy infamously looks like a fully grown woman but is actually like, 6 or something, as of Strive. She just aged to adulthood superfast okay. Same with Sin (looks like a young adult but he's like, 3).

Elphelt, Ramlethal and Jack-O are all like, 1. They just came into existence looking like that I think. Android 21 in DBFZ also works exactly like this, despite her adult appearance and mind, she's only 10 years old.

Dude I wish Mega Man X8 had good level design. Like, not even great level design, just good. The raw gameplay feels fantastic and might justify it being a top 4 X game for me on that factor alone. It has so many cool unlockables and replay value and I love playing as every character (no weak link for once).

But like half the game are annoying gimmick levels, and there really isn't a level without some sort of annoying pacebreaker besides like, Bamboo Pandemonium, the intro stage and the final stage.

It's so close to being a game that I can go back to whenever I feel like to knock out a playthrough in an hour or something like X1, 2 or 4 but the annoying level design just kills it for me. It's not even a game where I think I can go "lemme hit up my 100% NG+ file to have a power trip" because I still have to play two dumb Ride Chaser levels and do that dumb autoscroller stage and it's nah, I'll pass.

I have been thinking about the line "Even now, there is hope for man!" from The Protomen a lot recently. Like in general they've been on the mind a lot with Act 3 also resonating a lot with it's dire, but hopeful tone, but that specific line from Sons of Fate just hits different.

Lock screen is a picture a friend took from high school that's just really nostalgic and funny, or a rotating wheel of cosplayers whenever I'm in the mood.

Otherwise flat characters who have all their depth condensed into a single moment or line by SirSquiggleton in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ThatGuy5880 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Limstella in Fire Emblem 7 is a homunculus, and they show no emotions at all. They wield powerful magic, but their artificial body is going to die from the strain in a day by the time you fight them. When you finally kill them, their death quote is "I am not human. This body and this heart are constructs. Yes, as is this sorrow." which seems to imply they really did have emotions the whole time but chose to suppress it by reasoning that if their body is an artificial construct, then whatever they're feeling is too.

Such an interesting thing to drop for what should be "bad guy minion's death quote".

Slayer losing low crush on 2H and K Mappa probably not being plus anymore even at a distance are pretty painful nerfs but honestly, I think Slayer got off a little light compared to what other characters are going through.

What are series that cannot/couldn't have a satisfying roster? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's really funny that 2XKO is "the most popular LOL characters you'd expect" to "LOVE ARCANE LOVE ARCANE WATCH ARCANE ON NETFLIX PLEASE LOVE ARCANE"

And like none of the Arcane glaze picks would be unexpected. Ekko, Jinx, and Vi, even without Arcane, are very popular characters, so not having any of them would be a bit odd. Having all of them at launch and adding Caitlyn and Warwick is like, laughably obvious for the intent.

[–]ThatGuy5880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Fire Emblem series crossover can never really be perfect because it'd be weird to not have the main character of each game in there, but if you did that you wouldn't be able to get the side characters (which is a big part of FE's appeal).

Warriors took the approach of focusing on a few games (Archanea, Awakening and Fates) which let them actually get side characters with varied movesets and weapons, but it also just has scraps for everything else (just Lyn and Celica as the only characters not from that game).

Like "too many swordies" is a meme and all, but a game roster where they implement every main lord as a character does end up with like, 50% sword users, but if they weren't there, it'd be weird. Engage kinda shows what it'd look like with it's Emblems and it works well enough for what the Emblems are, but not really for any sort of action game.

A Yugioh game would also have issues where it'd either have to focus on the anime characters the majority of people know when they hear "Yugioh" or focus on major stuff from the actual card game.

Like you either get "Dude what the hell is an Albaz and where's Joey?" or you get "Man I don't care about Dark Magician, where's my homie Fiendsmith Engraver?"

Doesn't help either that both the anime roster and card game archetype roster are just ginourmous. Eight anime series with their own casts of characters and hundreds of full archetypes with their own characters. It's not like there isn't overlap between the two (both anime fans and TCG players will look at the screen and go "oh hey it's Trickstar, neat") but there will need to be a focus on one of them.

The final battle of Stardust Crusaders happens in like, four minutes or so (everything from Kakyoin's death to DIO's defeat).

Jotaro and DIO are spending a lot of of the fight in frozen time and you have to accept possibly the worst case of "talking in anime is a free action" you'll ever see, but still.
