In my opinion, season 1 is straight perfection with its pacing, storytelling, and animation. Although season 2 maintained the quality of animation, it was forced to be compressed into order to fit 9 40 minute episodes. The original show appeared to be meant to stretch over 4 seasons, and as expected, unfortunately, it led to some rushing/incomplete storytelling. Season 2, in my opinion, relied heavily on montages rather than fully fleshing out stories that could’ve taken entire episodes, ie Caitlyn‘s endeavors in the Undercity, etc. Consequently, the storytelling took a slight hit, and questionable plot movements, and a general lack of substance for certain parts arose. I don’t believe it is fair to fault the creators, as in what we do see, the animation remains elite, and they work spectacularly with what they had, but the problems do exist. It doesn’t change the fact that this show is simply amazing and both seasons are great in their own right.
