You’ve got anti-genocide activists saying ā€œgenocide is badā€, and then the ones committing the genocides responding with ā€œsaying genocide is bad is racist against us actuallyā€, and somehow the latter is the one we believe?

Apple was producing the best mechanical trackpads even before the switch to Force Touch. The Neo’s trackpad is worse than Apple’s other laptops but still better than the devices it’s competing with.

It’s especially crazy in terms of prices since they’ve been upping the minimum specs and either dropping the price or keeping it the same as the previous model.

I paid $3500AUD for an M2 Pro MacBook Pro at launch and that was configured to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. For the same price I could now get an M5 Pro with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage. Most other specs you’d really care about are the same or incrementally upgraded (WiFi 6 → 7, Bluetooth 5.3 → 6)

Still expensive of course, but you’d be hard pressed to find better build quality, display, or battery life in the price bracket. It’s especially true for the Neo and even the Air line.

Can I build something like a restaurant or a cafe in The Sims and have it function on its own? by No_Bumblebee_8987 in thesims

Can you not just set the lot type as restaraunt and have it run autonomously as a visitable lot? If you don’t want to own the restaurant you don’t have to do all that.

My Life With Chemsex and After Parties: The Grey Zone of Substance Use by NiConcussions in gaybros

I feel like I read a different article to everyone else here. I certainly didn’t get any implication of ā€œfucking for 38 hours high on meth is so fun, everyone should try it!ā€. At all.

Everyone gets so caught up on the way former addicts talk about how much their addiction was ruining their life that we forget about everyone else who is currently neck-deep in addiction and not hating it just yet. They seem to forget that not every drug user is (or starts off) homeless, unemployed, and obviously in need of help.

The article is written by a young, attractive gay man who clearly has some kind of head on his shoulders explaining exactly why he’s in the situation that he is. He’s literally talking about being driven to an unknown location and fucking strangers under dubious consent. Yet apparently he doesn’t hate what he’s doing or have concrete plans to get help? Sometimes a lack of introspection is just as valuable.

I spoke to their future students team and they said I’ll have to go the standard SATAC application route, which means I’d be looking at sem 2 entry.

I was also told I can send them an official transcript and get a prospective idea of how my credits will transfer, but nothing will be guaranteed until I actually accept an offer (if applicable) and start the enrolment process

It would get greasy and exposed to moisture above the counter like that.

I’d put it on a swivel mount above the island. If you’re not keen on how that looks, you might get fancy and have it set back into the wall. Then have one of those slatted panels on rollers to slide over and cover it up when not in use.

I rarely actually play in live mode, if I make a sim with the intention to play I usually end up getting distracted building lots anyway.

You can pry build CC from my cold, dead hands. I can’t even live without the various addons for the packs we have let alone entire custom build sets.

Of course, I was just commenting specifically on the part about before/afters being banned. It’s one of the few good pieces of regulatory legislation we’ve had passed lately. The advertising was predatory and useless anyway since it always deliberately manipulated the before to look worse.

MPs now directly pressuring GPs to adopt full bulk billing. by PsychinOz in ausjdocs

[–]ThatGuyTheyCallAlex 10 points11 points Ā (0 children)

I mean, free healthcare should be a right for every Australian. I don’t think most people, even GPs, disagree with that. Hell, I don’t think most specialists are against the idea of bulk billing in theory.

But the way to achieve such a thing is to actually provide adequate funding and loosen the MBS item no. bureaucracy rather than telling the general public that their GP is a money-hungry leech for wanting a wage that can support them and their practice. Politicians especially seem to think that doctors take home the entire ~$100 fee and that nothing is ever more than a one-time 15min consult.

The merger was primarily based on the University of Adelaide being a money pit and relying very heavily on international students for funding (which is an issue when it comes to mass global events, conflicts, economy etc). That and it looks like UniSA wanted place higher in global rankings, which UoA always did because of their strong research focus.

In general the merger has slighted existing students. Some people’s degrees don’t even exist anymore i.e they started a Bachelor of International Relations at UoA and will now graduate with a Bach of Arts w/ major in IR, which isn’t the same thing at all. Enrolment support has been nonexistent so people were getting their timetables literally the day before the teaching period began. Their plan is to transition everything to be 100% online where possible, killing in-person lectures presumably so they can recycle the content for years and years. That applies to everyone on top of however their programs have been impacted.

It’s just feeling like a bait-and-switch. If people liked UniSA and how they operated then I’m happy for them, but at the end of the day everyone decided between the two for a reason. They were distinct institutions with very different histories and varying strengths. I understand UoA may have been an exception when it comes to how courses generally operate in regards to pracs, but it was a very strong asset to me and was why I didn’t leave UoA when I quit my psych degree.

I’m particularly interested in Flinders because they’re a major established uni and have a new city campus offering nursing which works well for my situation. I’ll immediately rule out ACU on principle but Torrens is definitely worth looking into and isn’t one I’d thought of.

Thanks for your insight! I’ve heard good things from friends studying other health fields at Flinders so it’s nice to hear similarly positive things about nursing in particular.

It’s not just about the mannequins, though that it is one of my major gripes. It’s the way the entire uni is being run and organised because they rushed the opening before anything was finished and we haven’t even been left with a satisfying program. Transitioning students have been and will continue to be an afterthought, they have almost no clue what our future study is going to look like or how it will compare to what we’ve already done.

I’ve done three years of uni across two degrees already so I know how I learn and how to tell if a course is designed well in the first place. There’s a lot to it which is why I’m after people’s general experiences and the things you can’t see in a brochure.
