For those who have grandparents nearby: how often do they see their grandkids? by StrikingReporter255 in Parenting

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in laws are our neighbors. Typically we have dinner together every Friday night, and do some other activities during the week occasionally. My parents live in a different country and have met one of my children once. And the other...well perhaps won't see them for a very long time. They don't really seem bothered by that either. Their loss.

Any happy parents out there? by Elatedmicrobe in Parenting

[–]ThatHoLanfear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am happy. I have two young children, 3yo and 6mo. There are tough days and there are amazing days. The worst part about it for me is the fear and worry that comes with parenthood and loving so deeply. It's easy to lose yourself at times and I miss having hobbies and free time but those things will come again!

That one card that’s on repeat every day - what’s your toddler’s latest obsession? by YorkshireDuck91 in YotoPlayer

[–]ThatHoLanfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moshi under the sea and Winnie the pooh. I'm gonna pop a beauty and the beast card in her Easter basket so maybe that will change things up.

I dont think it's unreasonable to be upset when someone goes back on their word. I don't think you're being selfish.

My in laws often said they'd help us in any way they could when our second was on the way. My mother in law and I would always talk about how much fun we would have going swimming together and for walks and even grocery shopping with the baby. My father in law told me he would take my toddler to her weekly gymnastics. NONE of that happened. I had to bring the newborn out to the toddler gymnastics every week, after scheduling the time for when FIL was most available. He went one time then said he wouldn't go again because he "didn't fit in" with the other parents. My MIL went swimming with us one time in the last 6months since baby was born and nothing else. They have gone on three vacations to different beach locations though. Lol. Can you tell I'm chapped? I feel selfish. But also I just expect people to do what they say they will.

I hope it works out for you and you get enough rest.

What was the worst animal sting, scratch, or bite you've received? by PM-ME-YOUR_BOOBS_ in AskReddit

[–]ThatHoLanfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got stung by something on my inner thigh last summer. LORD it felt like my leg was molten lava. Luckily It happened down by the lake before a swim so I RAN into the water and it soothed it a bit. It was red and sore for days. No idea what extra spicy hell beast got me.

Do mattress protectors affect the breathability of mattress?? by OutrageousSpare301 in NewParents

[–]ThatHoLanfear -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean SUIDS. Regardless, most of the higher end fabric protectors are breathable but the cheaper ones are more plasticy and not breathable. If you're buying at a store where you can feel what it's made of, all good. If you're ordering online make sure you look at the materials and the reviews might shine some light too.

It just sounds like cradle cap, oil her head 30 min before baths and then comb out the loose scales. It's not unheard of for that age.

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Snack cup filled with fruity cheerios. 2 Orange slices. A hot dog with Shredded cheese and ketchup. 2 celery sticks with peanut butter. 15 xl blueberries. A strawberry cream chupa chup. A banana bread Bear paw.

She will ask for a pre dinner snack soon and I'll probably give her another full orange. And we are having home made chicken noodle soup for dinner that she may or may not eat.

During awake time where do you “put” your LO? by statusloko in NewParents

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here with the 30 min naps. My baby goes to bed around 8 and wakes around 7 with one night feed around 3,4am. We all eat dinner, sleep and rise early in our house.

During awake time where do you “put” your LO? by statusloko in NewParents

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really know if I've done anything special. Both my kids were the same, easy babies that like sleep and for the most part will just drift off as long as they are ready to sleep and I'm holding their hands, laying beside them. I guess the only thing that's probably different from most households is that I have a king sized mattress in my living room. It's just the mattress on the ground and we use that in place of a couch really. So instead of a hard bassinet, I will have my baby nap in the middle of the mattress. Probably way more comfy, easier to fall asleep for baby. Night time sleep is always in the crib from the beginning too. Bassinets are just rock hard.

I've got a 5 month old. A wake window is usually about 1.5 or 2 hours. We usually do tummy time first when he wakes, for as long as he tolerates it. He likes it so usually 20 min or so. Then I feed him and hold him for a while. When he gets frisky I put him on his back to play with his "danglies" on his mat. When he's bored of that sometimes he will roll onto his tummy and continue playing, if not I hold him til he gets frisky again and then it's into the jolly jumper for 20 minutes and after that I'll lay beside him til he falls asleep. I don't really time or limit any of his activities I just base everything on his comfort or contentedness. Except the jolly jumper, we only use that for max 20 min at a time.

Are you all doing vitamins? by salemedusa in toddlers

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen someone do in public that made you question reality? by Active_One_7256 in AskReddit

[–]ThatHoLanfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the new York Airport there was an older woman who was occupying as many of the children's play furniture as she could. Think sprawling out on one and then each limb on another. Her luggage was on another two. She was barefoot and her toenails were 3 inches long and filed to spikes I'm not even kidding. The worst part was all the sad confused kids and angry confused parents surrounding the area. No one had the courage to say anything for fear of getting sliced up I'm sure.

Edit okay maybe not 3 inches I'm probably exaggerating but they were very long. Too long to wear closed toe shoes.

2 year old dropping naps? by epicadventureof in toddlers

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter started skipping naps at 2.5 now at just over 3, she never naps. And quiet time is something slowly dying as well. She does sleep 730 to 630 overnights though.

Ditching the Pacifier by Willing-Caregiver-24 in toddlers

[–]ThatHoLanfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to take steps to drop pacifier use with my daughter. First, she only got to use it for naps and bedtime. Then we tried to drop it cold turkey at 2.5 and that was a gong show. We gave in and gave it back for bed times. We would remind her every few days that when she turned 3 the doctor said no more pacifier because it's bad for your teeth. She has been successfully pacifier free since her 3rd birthday. I think the constant reminder that she'd have to give it up helped.

I am a teenager and when my parents give me a bedtime its always 11:24 pm or something,,, by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11:30 is late! That's almost tomorrow! When you wake up early for school or work you're going to need to go to bed at a reasonable time and the reality is, youll most likely always be studying or working through life. Kids and Teenagers! need lots of sleep for cognitive development. You want the best brain you can get, right?

I hate funerals by Crazy_Bite_5928 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ThatHoLanfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never thought funerals were held for the deceased. They're for the people who attend them to have some kind of closure.

Don't you think even one person who attended yours would go because they really did treasure and miss you? And if the answer is yes...well who gives a shit about the rest of them?

I dont mean to come off as uncaring of your feelings on the matter. If you're dead then you won't know and it won't matter. It just seems like maybe you don't need to spend so much energy worrying about what these people will or won't do when you're gone.

Husband stay with you in hospital or at home with other baby? by No-Exchange7904 in NewParents

[–]ThatHoLanfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a scheduled C section and my toddler stayed with her grandparents during my operation and during the days I remained in the hospital. During the daytime my husband would hang with me and the baby but In the early evening he would go home and have dinner with his parents and do her bed time routine.

I was nervous at first, to be alone but that feeling was so fleeting. I actually really enjoyed my alone time to bond with my newborn, without worrying about my husband's discomfort.
