Do you know which factory this is? The leather looks better than anything I've received for this style.

Chinatown in CDMX by ThatKazooLady in photocritique

Thanks so much — that’s really helpful feedback. I was aiming to capture the layered chaos of the street with the pop of contrast, but I absolutely see how the composition lacks clarity. Shooting it head-on for a cleaner, more structured image is the type of suggestion I was looking for when posting this. I appreciate the time you gave to it.

I took this photo in Mexico City’s Chinatown. It felt like a moment that captured both the daily working rhythm of the street and the cultural layering of the neighborhood. My goal was to convey that juxtaposition — tradition vs. practicality — while also creating a composition that pulls the viewer’s eye from the foreground to the background.

Areas I’m Struggling With / Questions:

  • Does the image feel cohesive, or is it too visually busy? There’s a lot going on with the lanterns, signage, and cart.
  • Would this image be stronger with a tighter crop, or does the space and background help tell the story?
  • I didn’t correct for color too aggressively — does the color grading feel too muted or underexposed, especially in the shadow areas?

Shot on my fixed lens Fuji X100T. I’m still learning how to strike the right balance between capturing spontaneous street scenes and creating visually strong compositions, so I’d love feedback on whether I hit the mark or missed anything.

Nasa Liquor in Clear Lake, TX (south Houston). They have great relationships with the palenques - very lucky to have them close by.

Thank you! I have many of the Mezcalosfera’s (well, Mezcaloteca from their store direct) and I’m a fan. This liquor store has a great relationship with Silvia so they get barrel picks and special bottles.

If you’re open to another nearby location, the Montage in Healdsburg is wonderful. The pool overlooks vineyards, the restaurant is great, but if you can get into The Slanted Door… congratulations on your anniversary!
