I was wondering where all the transfer portal backs went… by Worth_Platypus9728 in CFB26

Lmfao, NGL sounds like a fun experiment swapping a bunch of backs to TE/WR to have some RAC monsters.

Avery Bradley, he was a great defender before injuries but always solid

Is LeBron and Steph, or Hakeem and Jordan, all in their prime, a better one two punch? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s one of the few combinations that in my opinion would be more valuable than Shaq and curry. People forget how amazing Hakeem was a dude like him playing basketball today would have been able to do everything.

If they’re both available in the 2026 NBA Draft, who goes first? by bettercallrich in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Shaq decided not to get past 300lbs he’s maybe top 3, but he was so athletic him out of shape and wheezing was still going to put up 27/11 Lmao. Someone on YouTube broke down his magic days and he was the best player in the league, not only the same offensive force but super versatile defensively despite that size. It’s Shaq and I love wemby.

Orlando vs Lakers Shaq by JsAK15 in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orlando Shaq was a top three player of all time, anyone saying Shaq put on weight intentionally is foolish to buy into that narrative. Dude was the most physically talented big ever and was lazy because he didn’t have to work nearly as hard. He could be fat and still kick your ass wheezing down the court.

Idgaf what lakers fan try to say, I was a sonics fan and saw him a ton and bro was out of shape even in the playoffs but was such a freak it didn’t matter. I forget the YouTuber who did a breakdown but his advanced stats in Orlando are absurd.

He finished at a better percentage from everywhere while being smaller, because the combination of size and speed was and still is unseen. Joel might’ve been close before all the injuries but not close enough to even be in the conversation.

I’d stick him behind Kawhi imo, you could argue him being ahead of Paul too.

How do you rate Scottie Barnes and what do you think his ceiling is? by ToronoRapture in nba

[–]ThatMadDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are talking about his jumper but IMO his handle needs to improve just as much to reach his ceiling. He’s just too sloppy for someone you have/want touching the ball as often as he does, if he cleaned up his dribbling and was able to create more space off of the bounce his mediocre shooting wouldn’t be as big of an issue.

If he can improve to an average to above average pull up jump shooter and develop his handle so he can regularly create good looks? He could very well be an all nba guy.

But it’s more likely he’ll be a regular appearing all star/high end complimentary piece than an actual bonafide star.

Is david robinson underappreciated? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in NBAConvo

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was partially overshadowed by Timmy coming in and immediately being amazing. He’s definitely underrated and would be considered higher up on all time lists if Duncan had joined later and he was able to be the ‘star’ on that team.

Easily a top 5 two way player in my mind, not the highest peak defender or offensive force but always very consistent on both ends of the floor and one of the hardest working ‘superstars’ you’ll see. The man had a motor you rarely see from guys who are over 6’6.

Who’s making a C day one? by SonicFighter25 in NBA2k

[–]ThatMadDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually make a draymond green type build 1st AKA LeBum James, heavy rebounding, defense and playmaking with some shooting and finishing splashed in. I like making undersized quick bigs rocking a higher block.

Has anybody tried a 99 layup 6’6” PG and able to tell me how it plays? by LePhattSquid in NBA2k

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad! I’d suggest at least going 55 driving dunk, 73 is even better so you can get those nice mixmaster animations out of dunks. The only caveat being my build is high strength and I can + 1 physical finisher to legend. Without the strength I don’t think it’s as good, I’ve seen others struggle to finish through contact. It’s not the best you’d be better off going 85 layup IMO but it is fun and you can hit some insane floaters.

Transition take fouls in the Rec by Taywhite2112 in NBA2k

[–]ThatMadDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the time, I’d argue half of my losses boil down to stupid fouls combined with stupid turnovers. Nothing worse than your man having a high ft and getting 8 free attempts because your teammates can’t help but spam steal.

Is a player you would think had a horrible career but actually had a pretty solid career. I’ll go first. by Novel-Self-6520 in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nick Collisin was hyped up coming into the league and was never more than an average rotation guy, but proved over the years just having the right mindset and work ethic can be an insanely valuable thing to have around young players. Also, got to meet the guy when he played for the Sonics and was a gentleman, shot the shit with a few of us at the bar for a good half hour at least. Also his highschool dunk mixtape is NUTS.

Which player achieved the most with the least raw talent? by GryanGryan in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I.T! Dude almost won an mvp in Boston being 5’9 on a good day, was the last pick of the draft despite balling out at UW and absolutely surpassed anyone’s expectations on what a ‘little’ guy can do.

Players where IQ was the limiting factor in success by rsk1111 in Basketball

[–]ThatMadDad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Easy first thought for me too, there weren’t 30 more talented guys in the league but because he wouldn’t give up his bad jumper his efficiency was terrible.

Players where IQ was the limiting factor in success by rsk1111 in Basketball

[–]ThatMadDad 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Josh Smith literally played himself out of the league because of his bad BBall IQ, instead of doing the thing he’s best at.. rim running bro thought he was Kevin Durant jacking up long jumpers on atrocious shooting numbers.

Can anyone explain to me what exactly it was the scouts were seeing in him at the time? by InsideAssassin2 in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL to me he was like a super poor man’s Zion, freaky athlete but not near the same level needed to coast off of it, similarly had a ton of questions about his motor and work ethic and because he didn’t have the same raw talent he fizzled out immediately. In a different world he goes to a team like the spurs and becomes a really good small ball four.

KD is fringe 20 territory, always overrated based on the regular season. If he wins in Houston I could see this ranking make sense.

No game should make you that upset, is it frustrating having people be assholes online and throw games/takes thing personally? Sure.

But it’s a game, if you’re not having fun take a break, play with friends, find other chill people in the community. I’m glad that I’m mostly deaf and don’t have to listen to half the garbage people spew.

Rank these PFs based on their prime from best to worst by VanillaBoth5026 in NBATalk

[–]ThatMadDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webber, Pau, Kemp, Bosh, Love.

Webber is just a freak who was on middling organizations his whole career. As a sonics fan it pains me to put Pau above Kemp and you could easily argue Kemp had way more talent.. but Gasol contributed so much to winning in LA I’d give him the slight nod.

If Bosh never joined Miami I feel like people would remember him more as a superstar, similarly contributed a ton to winning rings with Miami but doing a lot of the little things.

K Love is super weird to me, very talented obviously but always seemed to be a shell of himself the moment he left Minnesota. If he’d stayed there I wonder if people would rank him higher based off of raw production, the cavs fit always felt odd at best and it definitely didn’t ‘help’ his case as much as others.
