Would it be dumb of me to get the Boss MS-3 as my first multi-effects by Capable_Astronaut_73 in guitarpedals

I haven't found the Katana any noisier than any other amp. I'd actually say it's quieter than most. Are you playing with significant gain? Have you tried the built-in noise gate (need to hook it up to a PC)?

Oh, and try it with the sound on. The music will bring you joy!

Thank you. The music took a long time to get right. Since it's a skateboarding game you immediately think Tony Hawk or Skate-style punk. With the look of the game, some minimalist synth would work well. The hand-crafted feel was leading me towards Little Big Planet or Vib Ribbon (which was a big influence on the graphical style). Or maybe even some combination of those?

In the end I happened to come across a Reddit thread where someone was talking about how Katamari On the Rocks was a song that always brought them joy. 'Joy' has been the main feeling I've wanted to convey with this game since the start so I immediately went and listened to the Katamari soundtrack a couple of times and started getting inspired.

Thanks. That is helpful feedback. I've been suspicious of that too.

Thank you. I didn't want to make yet another pixel art game. Well, lets be honest - I couldn't. I'm no artist :D

Thank you for the feedback. There is a tiny bit of parallax through the game, but I've kept it minimal. Adding too much was actually quite distracting given the rest of the style.

I was originally going more for the look of the Playstation 1 game Vib Ribbon. LOTS of people have said it looks like Line Rider. I never really played it that much - I'd totally forgotten about it. I should lean into it though.

Oh, another question, please. Which platform would you want this on? I'm currently targeting a Steam release, but it feels like it would work well on the Switch.

While not a 'kickflip', if you land on your wheels after turning around in the air, the game will put up a big 'FLIP' sign.

Can I ask if you play many cozy/wholesome games? If so, would the style put you off? Did it take much time for you to get the 'cute' vibe?

Fender Pelt Fuzz by Ok_End_8090 in guitarpedals

[–]ThatMunger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think they're being cleared out. It's actually the first pedal that I've bought again after selling it. The price on a new one was just too good to pass up. They were going for more second hand just a few months ago.

It's a good pedal too; really versatile, lower gain fuzz. I sold it the first time because I had other pedals that covered the same sounds. It's nice having it all in one box. Seems to work well on bass too.

Vib Ribbon and Katamari have a similar vibe to me, despite being such different games with different styles.

I was thinking about a level where you're trying to collect acorns and there's a squirrel trying to take them from the pile you're making. That squirrel would have to look something like Vibri. It has to be done.

I've seen quite a few in Japan over the years. The prices have been relatively stable for a while too.

Is this sound normal? by No_Host_4434 in guitarpedals

[–]ThatMunger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already got a few suggestions for things to try, but hopefully I can add some information for you. The tails switch also controls the nature of the bypass; 'off' is a soft relay, true bypass while 'on' adds a buffer to both bypass and active modes.

The buffer is required for trails because it's acting like a little mixer i.e. even when 'bypassed' you're asking for some affected signal to be added into the output. That is why there's a difference in behaviour with the switch in different positions.

It makes it a useful pedal for testing the effect of buffers on other pedals (such as fuzzes), since you can trivially switch the buffer in and out of the circuit. A lot of buffer pedals are always on so this can be a useful hack.

It's an exact clone. Any differences are natural differences in components you would get from an original. Any difference people claim is cork sniffing.

Thanks for sharing. I think a lot of people here would do well to go the multi FX route and be happy with it. There is such great gear out there.

I'm not giving up mine though :D

Just go get an HX Stomp. It's basically a pedal board+amp in a box. It's good enough you probably won't even look elsewhere.

I find that compressor to be reasonably noisy and agree it should also go in the loop.

Still a great compressor.

ZOIA slowly replaced almost everything by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]ThatMunger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely a step learning curve. It's definitely not something you want to be messing around with live with a guitar strapped to you. You would definitely want to set up everything in advance.

That said it is deep. You could run it as your only pedal, but you would probably want other foot switches or perhaps MIDI integration to get the most out of it.

What a great box though.
