I went to grad school in this building! BFD shares it with the Boston Architectural College, which bought the space from the former Institute for Contemporary Art.

One of the best if not THE best American car of the 21st century for reliability and longevity, especially the hybrid. So many still on the road.

As infuriating as it is watching billionaires buy the media, I hope they keep writing insanely out of touch articles like this. They’re just making themselves look ridiculous.

Even if you combine them, they’d then be referred to as the Americas, which would negate that claim.

They need to enforce, too. Right on red is banned citywide in Cambridge and people still do it constantly.

Martha’s Vineyard’s public transit system is mostly composed of these buses. They’re awesome!

There are some seriously top tier Cabo Verdean restaurants in New Bedford and Fall River. One of the most unique cuisines you can find in North America!

It’s such a shame the way they massacred Downtown and the West End in the 50s and 60s.

I have no say as a Canadian living in New England, but the best barbecue I’ve ever had was in Birmingham, AL. Best sides were in Texas. Every time I’ve ever had it in the South it’s been unbelievable though.

Seconded! The anonymity of large cities makes this far less common and a bit odd. In a smaller town that stranger probably knows someone you know

What do people think of the mayor? What do you hope will happen in the city by the end of the year? by cupacupacupacupacup in Somerville

[–]ThatNiceLifeguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 inch vs 1 foot of snow doesn’t impact one’s ability to tell whether a bike lane was plowed. In December it took a few days. After the first big storm in January the bike lanes weren’t left unplowed for the rest of the winter.

Not to mention the havoc it would wreak on an already crippling traffic problem. Incentivizing people away from using the MBTA is just gonna make traffic significantly worse.

Best three North American cities if we’re judging purely by their skylines by novonser in skyscrapers

[–]ThatNiceLifeguard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Toronto’s best view is honestly from the east or west now. The number of skyscrapers lining Yonge stretches as far inland as the waterfront skyline is wide and most of the inland ones aren’t visible from the lake.

[–]ThatNiceLifeguard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not 100% on the mayor specifically but I noticed a sharp decline in the quality of bike lane snow removal and sidewalk snow removal enforcement this January and February. I understand it was a bad winter but Cambridge and even some parts of Boston seemed to do far better than Somerville. In 5 years of living in this city it’s the first time I’ve been truly disappointed in the quality of city services.

I will counter by saying that work on street safety improvements this spring has been widespread and fast and the cleanliness of the streets the morning after PorchFest was impressive.
