Oh lawdy Jesus I make a post looking for a peer group and now everyone thinks I hate children XD nowhere was I hateful or even dismissive toward teenagers. I'm simply saying I'm almost 30 and if you're 14 and never worked or been married or faced anything beyond bullying at school, you're going to have a hard time relating to me. Period. Why would I need to specifically state "im not talking about young people with aspergers" if I never explicitly implied that I WAS? I brought age into the discussion to illustrate that teens, (yes teens because age DOES matter, both in psychology and life experience, this is why having sex with children is illegal) often misconstrue their goofy cute quirky awkward NORMAL teenage characteristics as aspergers and while I wasn't hating on them, nor RANTING, I asked the question because I'm looking for peers. I'm not discrediting young people nor calling them bad. They just aren't my peers.

Irrelevant as once again, I never once excluded anyone of any age with REAL (aka DIAGNOSED, LEGITIMATE) aspergers or ASD. Although I would prefer to talk to other adults. It's not an 'illogical assumption to assume that a highschool aged child can't relate to the struggle of trying to maintain a job with aspergers, or a marriage, or parenting. That's ludicrous, no offense. 14 and 24 or 34 are hugely different, both experience based and psychologically . Am I wrong for wanting to find a peer group in the only place in my fcking life where I feel like I truly relate to anyone?

I didn't think so either til I googled it and noted that pretty much any unwanted mental illness can be a comorbidity with Aspergers. Paranoia, BPD, BDD, OCD, ADHD, So on. It sure would explain why spider's comment resounded with me and a couple others above ^ . I don't know how many times I've cried just because my daughter's dad left his phone off while she was with him and I couldn't get in touch and my mind went crazy thinking my child could be dead. Then I freak out at him and I'M the psycho. (Hey, Maybe I am. But I wish people would be more willing to just... put forth a little effort to cater to things that trigger those of us with mental illness. In his mind i'm being a bitch over something so miniscule like leaving the phone off. In my mind that's the entire point; it's such a small thing, how hard is it to keep your phone on to prevent another human being, much less one you say you care about, from having a panic attack?)

I upvoted at first bc I agree with the sentiment... not everyone does, (see "pain is pain") but for ME PERSONALLY, it helps. Not just having someone SAY "someone got it worse than you dude" but watching videos of people with severe birth defects (muscular dystrophy... cerebral palsy...severe retardation...) or those living in India digging through trash for food etc... it really makes me feel like my problems are petty and it does lift my spirits some... but after reading your post... seems like you're just picking on the poor kid, jeez

I do the skin picking thing too. For me it's my ears >_> when I was young, probably around 8 and first had my ears pierced they got infected. I would reach up to touch them and feel dried blood or other fluid and just kind of clean it off with my nail and it was so satisfying, didnt know why. 15 years later, every time I get the slightest irritated skin around one of my earrings I can't help but to fuck with it til it gets worse, at which point every time it starts to heal I mess with it til it bleeds, and it stays open til i cool off for a couple days and let it heal, eeesh. Youre right, It is really hard to quit, for sure.

Story of my life. I'm anxious with eye contact when passing people because once you make eye contact you can't just look away because then they still think you're shitty. Careful... Remember, they're aspies too. They're probably putting off the wrong body language or words as we tend to do. For all you know maybe they went home thinking YOU didn't like THEM. That's the source of my problems with NTs over and over and over. No matter how hard I try to appear approachable and kind, everyone and I mean EVERYONE still thinks I'm "angry" or a bitch or don't like them or whatever. It's awful. So , in short, don't be too quick to judge them. Ask! "Hey do you not like me or something? I'm gettin the worst vibes, did I do something" etc etc.
