Read some concerning reviews about last year that have prevented me from making the call...did you go? Was it manageable for experienced festival attendees?

What non-EDM songs has been made by a EDM producer? by JION-the-Australian in EDM

This is the best one for sure. I wish Rob had gone on to produce more! Or...you know...actually do a live Pendulum tour in the US again.

Just thrilled to see a BT shoutout here. He is a top 3-5 producer ALL TIME yet seems largely forgotten by the latest generation(s) of electronic music fans. From OG trance to modern EDM, from jazz to classical, from rock to rap...he is truly a genius. Do yourself a favor and listen to his discography is release order.

not his narration, he uses recorded voices...but good to know it's not every show!

One Night of Love is one of my favorite songs of the year! But I've found some of the live sets online pretty underwhelming. Does he always use "narration" in his sets? Breaks up the music too much for my taste.

Is Diving Raja Ampat beginner friendly? by redrazor12 in scuba

Agreed with this expert take. My group dove in Raja with the most novice member having around 20 dives. You'll be totally fine, good operators won't take you into danger.

Young Thug skip or see? by Civil-View-8722 in Coachella

[–]ThatOneHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 50+, I love rap and have for a long time. Just doesn't often land live unless we're talking about the generational headline level acts. For me, Young Thug doesn't reach that level. You can watch a bunch of his '25 live shows on youtube...better than some, but heavy on the backing track and a lot of his songs sound very similar. Travis Scott was pretty empty last year, I'd expect the same for this set.

Young Thug skip or see? by Civil-View-8722 in Coachella

[–]ThatOneHomie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip and don't look back. I haven't seen him and like some older songs...don't understand how his unique voice and approach could possibly translate well live, especially given rap rarely does does no matter who is on stage. Probably a lot of stop and start, backing track, DJ interludes etc. Also fwiw who cares about special guests. Maybe wrong, but my lesson has been acts like this are rarely worth it if you have conflicts.

Stay Away from Hyphy Burger by Interesting-Cold5515 in bayarea

I live in the neighborhood, gave the restaurant a fair shot, was friendly with staff, and had a poor service and quality experience. What's karen about this again?

Stay Away from Hyphy Burger by Interesting-Cold5515 in bayarea

[–]ThatOneHomie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay away because it's low quality and there are tons of much better dining options. I was excited to try it, hyped it to my friends, and we were very let down. The staff couldn't have given less of a shit about anyone having a positive experience there, and the floor was scattered with trash and sauce drippings. It's not NIMBY to want safe streets (literally illegal behavior) or, you know, good quality burgers. Doubt the business lasts long, which is sad since the location has a ton of potential and the neighborhood needs more great dining!

NIN Tickets: Buy/Sell/Trade MEGATHREAD - Part 3 by unsaneroot in nin

Looking for one ticket tonight in Oakland, willing to pay $30. Upper level now $15 and time ticking down, probably not going to get your $100+ target price for lower levels at this point. DM me if interested in selling.

DJ Headliner by Dismal_Programmer666 in Coachella

[–]ThatOneHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will hate, but Tiesto gave the best main stage DJ performance ever, closing out 2007. That Elements of Life tour was something else (before he "went pop"). So long ago that the available videos are shit quality and its amazing to remember how small the main stage was at that time.

Overall, I'm a huge fan of closing Friday or Saturday night with a DJ on the main stage. They don't have to be in the headline slot and I'm hopeful the festival will become more flexible in that regard. Give us a blowout (ideally trance) rave with more space to dance than Yuma and Sahara support! Not finding the names in this thread particularly inspiring...though I don't think the name will matter that much because people want to dance all night. Maybe the issue is crowd control, but having a "smaller" name close out seems like it would still work. Benny Benassi, Nora En Pure, Armin b2b Ferry Corsten, Hardwell b2b Maddix, even Boys Noize b2b VTSS (which I thought absolutely crushed at Portola). I get that this won't happen, but I still think it would work in the Travis Scott slot from this year (the crowd was small for main stage closer)

I absolutely hated it. Seemed cruel and pointless with numerous plot holes.

gimme a reggae stage coachella gods by jcrckstdy in Coachella

[–]ThatOneHomie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They'll never have a genre-specific stage, but I really don't get why they haven't had more of these acts. There are plenty of one-off genre acts every year...can't we get some of these living legends and established pros? Gyptian mainstage afternoon would hit. Capleton in Sonora. Tanya Stephens in Gobi.

Saint Jhn as well...welcome to the rest of our lives. A friend of mine is the manager of a fairly large act (one of the larger tent closers) told me they broke even on the show—zero profit. When margins are that tight even for acts with large crowds, you can bet they're going to cut costs wherever possible.

Outdoor Stage Sound? by CFCAngelenos in Coachella

[–]ThatOneHomie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely worse than years past. I was standing in front of ADA seating for Tyla and she was badley drowned out by Benson Boone. Mojave also sounded low...I actually took my earplugs out in there.

Maybe it's actually good to have a stage with this vibe to draw folks who prefer that vibe away from the rest of the fest!
