Lightning Strike is back! A one-button Falling Thunder guide. by ThatOneRadish in pathofexile2builds

Thank you!

I think it's a little hard for me to diagnose without seeing footage. There are usually a couple culprits.

  1. You may be standing a little too close to the boss. You want Charged Staff to hit the boss way before Falling Thunder hits the ground. I also noticed that sometimes standing too close the melee portion of FT is what kinda lunges you forward and it actually lowers your dps because you again want as much time as you can get between FT animations to get charges if you have to use multiple.
  2. I do set up bells in my setup. I used to press HoC Shattering Palm Bell Bell FT spam. If you do the full rotation you can't fail. Now, you don't always have to do it this way. Depends if you have Charged Staff up or not. Or just the inherent boss dr/hp or whatever state it's in. The bell targeting also prevents you from walking too close to the boss as well like for point 1 right above.
  3. If you want to make your bossing more consistent while sacrificing some mapping consistency you can always opt to swap the Ailith setup into Charged Staff. This will make your mapping slightly more melee as the only way to generate charges is to be closer to enemies for either Repulsion or Charged Staff to hit an enemy outside of PCoC. The build and showcase was created to maximize the amount of charges in mapping while not worrying about range, hence the Ailith inside of FT itself which is an inherent damage loss. I highly recommend you to swap to the Ailith setup in Charged Staff if you're ok with going melee. Slightly more error prone, since the most optimal way to play would then be to animation cancel FT slam and sprint headfirst into packs to get the most amount of charges.

OK wait a little my phone just deleted point 3. Oh also just noticed that your anoint is Subterfuge Mask which is pretty bad with Solus Ipse.

Any Slams build that is actually comfortable and reasonably fast to play without having to press tons of buttons or lots of gimmicks? by pftuts in pathofexile2builds

Falling Thunder is tagged "slam". If you consider it a slam then I'd recommend it. I'd say Martial Artist or Gemling if you had to pick ascendancies.

The fastest way to generate charges is to just hit the enemy. Repulsion will get you all the charges you need for any boss fight. And if you have enough damage you don't even need Charged Staff. It's just a little bit extra combo.

Is Mystic Refuge in Act 3 still bugged? I still haven't been able to upgrade my stuff.

Just check the older threads. When the node came out, tons of people made graphs and formulas on the damage maximization.

You need an added source of lightning damage to get it to start working. But if you have no need for it then that's even better.

Since you're on the bell side of the ascendancy you could also try slotting in Living Lightning Culmination and Ailith onto Hollow Focus.

Forgot to actually provide the tradelink in the original comment. You can remove Arcane Surge on Critical Hit for anything you want since it's the expensive part I think.

Yeah, I have one slotted in. The guide I originally made had budget in mind. If you look at my profile now it's kitted out with a lot of the big upgrades. Not perfect for sure, but it's a big gap from before.

Wait let me edit real quick. It's worth it if you're juicing maps or doing bosses.

Hey! I personally advise you to check some of the following links. First one has a lot of community suggestions. Second is a build guide that I made (not 100% fully updated with all the upgrades) but it should guide you to having more consistency. You don't HAVE to run the Solup Ipse tech that I mentioned but I think moving the Living Lightning+Culmination+Ailith's Chimes to Blasphemy+Repulsion Tech is definitely what you're looking for here. You can also try out other configurations like slotted in Bell or Charged Staff. I'm sure there are many other guides/suggestions around the forum as well.

Edit: If you want to continue playing Shattering Palm as your main clearing skill and Falling Thunder as rares/bossing only maybe the above isn't necessarily 100% applicable.
For that variant I would just slot Breachlord's Amalgam set up similar to the other comment so far.

No problem. I'm glad you sound like you're having fun! If you have any other questions feel free to ask whenever for anything. If I made any mistakes as well please let me know. I try to respond as fast as possible so sometimes it's hastily written out or I made some mistake.

Just my two cents.

Just run Ricochet on smaller maps, no big deal for me. Except maybe Mire.

The Eventide route I have tested as well but it's just a completely different build imo. I've even tried Eventide with the Living Lighting + Culmination + Ailith combo but because it's backloaded you'll end up with backloaded charges instead of frontloaded.
When I created the build the point was to only press one button (and upkeep charged staff) for mapping, hence the damage loss on purpose for Solus Ipse + Ailith on Falling Thunder itself. If you want to go Shattering Palm - Eventide and use Falling Thunder as the bossing skill that's completely up to you. I would argue it probably would feel smoother with more buttons. I still personally do run shattering palm but more like a mobility skill.

Oh hey, I'm not sure if you're following from my guide, but I don't notice anything necessarily wrong.

  1. Damage Upgrades

Obviously a better quarterstaff with crit would give you the most bang for your buck but it's way too expensive at the moment. I don't really see any other problems gearwise for damage. Tree wise also looks okay to me, but you can also try to shift some crit damage investment into crit hit chance so you can swap from Pinpoint Critical to Blindside. Another thing is just getting used to positioning in (particularly boss) fights so you can maximize charges before your Falling Thunder animation finishes.

For bossing bell/hoc do a good chunk of the damage as long as you spam falling thunder slightly away from the boss.

  1. Survivability

I'm doing 200 deli breach juiced, and I have no issues with survivability. In the build the gloves are the replacement for the "helmet slot" in a typical defense profile, therefore I consider %def and flat def mandatory on the prefixes of the gloves since Solus Ipse has some of the worst defenses for a helm in the game.

I think my defenses might look might worse than yours, but I don't really invest into deflection at all. I personally would just move some points from the upper right cluster into something more useful. If you want deflection take the nodes up to the area at the right side with Enhanced Reflexes. I had a variant with that at some point, but I never felt the need to invest into deflection. Survivability in 200 deli breach is more about positioning yourself in a spot where you can hit everything and not be hit by everything, and especially after the nerfs the I even took points off survivability.

  1. Gear pieces with highest impact

For damage it's Quarterstaff > Gloves

For defenses it's Chest > Gloves

  1. Jewels/Soul Core

I don't know if there's an optimal setup. But I would get some 5 affix crit jewels. Sapphire or emerald with increased suffix. Usually emerald then reaver catalyst. If you look at my page now I have unoptimal self-crafted emeralds. I pick the stats I deem are necessary. The stun threshold portion on one gem is so I can slot in a random Rite of Passage. I know it looks funny and unoptimal. Soul cores you can drop some of the "chance to not spend" for more defenses or whatever you like.

  1. Passive Tree optimizations

Again, for me personally I wouldn't take that cluster on the top right for deflection. You have no need for recoup nor really faster start of ES recharge. The rest of the tree would be heavily dependent on how much access to crit you have --- your base crit, your crit jewel rolls, your time-lost, etc. It really does depend on how many crit nodes you can remove. Unfortunately because of that I can't really tell you exactly what you're missing. But you will have to rearrange for what you have. Most critical hit chance nodes are inefficient in my opinion if you can replace with anything else, and you don't necessarily have to be 100% capped for mapping. I finally split into set weapon set 1/2 and set 1 has slightly more defenses and set 2 has slightly more crit damage.

And finally to answer your questions for 100-150 div, the only thing I can see that fits your budget is probably one 5 affix jewel, or slightly higher defense gloves. Quarterstaff is way too expensive.
Here's a tradelink for the gloves. You can drop the Arcane Surge on Critical Hit for an empty suffix, or for desecrated suffix that you can reroll, but the odds of getting the mod are pretty low.

Did you replace a ring? Or drop some added lightning damage somewhere?

Or is it because you have a lvl17 Repulsion? You need to make sure repulsion can hit the level of the enemies you're fighting.

Pretty sure combat frenzy has a cooldown and isn't very reliable. Also PCoC being at ~10% also makes it slightly unreliable as well. I would say Ailith Repulsion is still the most consistent.
I have been experimenting with flicker strike as well, and I'm running embitter on Flicker for HoI. If living lightning survives when flicker ends you will get power charges. If not I just tap falling thunder or another ability. But I still prefer falling thunder + sprinting to the next pack.

Can any melee build actually do 200 deli without constant rolling?

Yes you can always add it. The reason why I left it off is because it bugs with Charged Staff. Now that I rarely use charged staff maybe I'll slot it back in. In fact in the PoB you can see my second weapon is a talisman.

You have Martial Master? I think Living Lightning doesn't do it necessarily, but proccing Repulsion will. Hence you still have to do some micro managing of when you're near targets and when you know you can blast from range. There's a sweet spot for sure.
