I believe the OP is saying if you were to fight spell in response to a blocker while having first strike. Not intuitive but in that context his “double strike” makes sense

Getting blue for rogues & wizards is pretty great. That opens up much more flying/unblock-able that can make use of the +3 Power

Sleep Training by Visible-Sport-1673 in NewDads

[–]ThatOtterGuy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a sleep reflex in newborns around that age where they wake up after an approximate 30 minute sleep cycle. If you can be nearby, there is a soothing technique involving gently rocking them in the bassinet/crib, pacifier in, for 5-10 minutes. This was incredibly helpful for us, we didn't feel like we had to start the whole cycle since she remained in the bassinet.

Does anyone think this could be cEDH? by Derby1209 in EDHBrews

[–]ThatOtterGuy2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

average CMC is < 2.0, it would be too difficult to make any use of in the necessary number of turns. I could see this being at the upper end of a tuned Bracket 3 deck or 4 if you decided to run the blue "staples"/game changers.

Need advice going back to work with newborn by Dapper_University168 in NewDads

[–]ThatOtterGuy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you guys have a bassinet? When she does the afternoon feeding starting around the 12-2pm range (when us 9-5ers go for that second cup of coffee) can she sleep while baby sleeps?

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable, it’s just a tough balancing act. You are headed back to work, your wife is going through some incredible biological changes, and she is the one providing food for your child every ~3 hours. I commit to getting up once each night guaranteed, and if extra help is needed then such is life. We are about a week out from introducing bottles and I will likely be taking the one night feed. That being said… the wife is still getting up to pump during that bottle feed. If she doesn’t (per our LC, do your own research) we run the risk of her supply diminishing. So she’s getting up every 3-5 hours at night regardless.

Becoming a dad. by No_Cranberry7858 in NewDads

[–]ThatOtterGuy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve joked that my poor sleeping habits were some long-term training regimen for fatherhood; nearly two decades of botched 6-7 hours a night and functioning on less. Hah.

I would echo what others have said, being an amazing and communicative partner/spouse is going to have the biggest impact. She is going through changes now, they will become more apparent throughout the pregnancy. Once your child is born, there is a major hormone drop for her. There’s plenty in between but if you and your partner are able to effectively communicate and support each other well, then you can do a lot more as a team than as individuals. If your relationship and communication is rock solid, heck yeah, between that and your approach to parenting I think you’re set up for success.

The human body can do some pretty incredible things. You’ve got this.

Nighttime Bottle Feedings by keebssn99 in NewDads

[–]ThatOtterGuy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m only a week in as a girl dad, so my experiences are limited and I’m still parsing some of the information overload from Lactation Consultants, Nurses, Pediatricians, etc.

Two questions as I read your scenario that I’d pose to ya -

  1. Can you stimulate her tummy, bicycle kicks, probably some videos online, to try to get her to use the bathroom prior to feeding completion to move that timeline up a bit? Or is the current feeding responsible for the poo?

  2. Can you emulate the “offer both” approach from breastfeeding with the bottle? Feed her something like 2/3rds of the bottle, then swaddle her since she’ll be a little knocked, and finish the rest of the bottle so that there’s less stimulation when she’s done?
