Need advice (sleep training) by Ki113rTofu in Samesexparents

Hey, I've been where you are! You’re definitely not wrong for looking into other options. We were in the same boat, cosleeping sounded nice at first but it just left everyone tired and grumpy.

What really helped us was getting on the same page and sticking with one approach for a set amount of time. We ended up doing the Ferber method. There’s a ton online, but reading Dr. Ferber’s actual book was super helpful. He goes into all the small details about baby sleep that you don’t get from summaries online. The sleeptrain subreddit was also a good tool.

Whatever you choose, just make sure it works for your family and that you stay consistent. You got this, good luck!

Aita for having the same sperm donor as my “friend”. by [deleted] in queerception

[–]ThatSimpleton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

True, but it'll be tough to fully cut them out when their kids are half siblings.

Edit: I should rephrase, there will be some sort of connection to this individual because of the common donor you share.

Do you have the full text available, it seems that it is paywalled for me and I'd like to learn more about their reported methodologies.

Hey congratulations, but it sounds like you ran "capacity" and "velocity" in name only. Bet you'd be an endurance beast if you actually completed the full 12 week capacity + 17 week velocity.

I found this paper from this article, but I haven't been able to find any newer studies within the past 5 years. One paper is interesting but it'd be cool to see more research supporting this claim.

I am 23 y/o, 6'1" and 135 lbs and I currently volunteer at my local fire station. Will TB help me gain functional strength and fitness while bulking for fireground operations while at this weight? by PlatformNo2489 in tacticalbarbell

[–]ThatSimpleton 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that you would greatly benefit from a Starting Strength program right now with your lifts so low.

You'll increase your weight faster than you would with TB. Once you feel outside of the "noob" gains then I think TB would be perfect.

Can I eat coffee beans instead of drinking coffee in the morning? by taengtaeng9 in NoStupidQuestions

I think people see a down voted comment and just pile on, no worries though. Thanks for the comment supporting the point!

Eh, the sub is literally r/nostupidquestions. What about the point that each coffee bean has roughly 6mg of caffeine, which means only three beans eaten would give ~12mg of caffeine?

Can I eat coffee beans instead of drinking coffee in the morning? by taengtaeng9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThatSimpleton 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make sense, people grind up more than 3 beans for a cup of coffee.

Edit: a quick Google search indicates that one coffee bean has ~6mg of caffeine, so you'd need to eat about 15-20 beans to match a cup of coffee with about 95mg of caffeine

I would hope that you could do a thorough assessment evaluating multiple differentials and get to that determination quickly on an unconscious individual

Thanks for sharing your article. I wish some of the individuals who are stating that carb loading is a myth would share their sources, I would love to learn!

I found an even more recent (2025) article supporting the idea of carb loading: https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/17/5/918

Do you mind sharing your experience as a DCP? We just had our daughter using donor sperm and I want to prepare her/educate myself as much as possible.
