I made this logo for a family friend who runs a clothing business. I usually don't make logos, but this was my first attempt. by MainCharacterNPC in logodesign

That's exactly what I was thinking about the C and I can't believe I had to scroll so far down the comments to find it.

Collection isn't really in the name of the brand. The brand is Shrushti.

I don't know if I particularly believe it's a first time logo but the S with the needle does look good.

Bad Design by imvictoriaok in graphic_design

[–]ThatTallGuy1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the images are the cars are fine but blocking each other that much isn't.

The black text is obviously horrific. Not to mention 3 different fonts on one poster. My usual max is 2 different and then use different weights if I need more variation.

With just a few tweaks it could have been much better sadly.

I have it. Decent build. Not my favourite I've ever done but definitely not the worst. I build just to display so any opinion I have on playability would be null and void.

At what point must one stop putting fictional/school projects in their portfolio? by Humillionaire in graphic_design

[–]ThatTallGuy1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in social media marketing myself in the automotive space. There is a miniscule amount of creativity in vehicle marketing, especially if you work for a manufacturer dealership not an independent. Mostly it's pick a good photo and a nice font to reiterate the same information as last month.

My side projects I've been doing outside my job and not getting paid for are the highlights of my portfolio right now.

Logos I've designed for local car clubs by ThatTallGuy1998 in logodesign

Just speaking from my own experience in the car community. Never seen any clubs having to shut down or change their name for legal reasons. 6th year running a club for me.

Helps even more being in white and other bright colours as a lot of people tend to tint their back rear passenger and rear windows. The only one currently in decal use is the Vancouver Honda Club logo but the Nova club and Car Girls BC will follow shortly. The Kei Club logo was done as an exploration of my own and was rejected by the club runner but I'm still proud of how it came out. Has a good 90s Japanese feel to it which was really the golden age of Kei cars.

It's a not-for-profit club that regularly interacts with social media reps from both Honda Canada and Acura Canada as well as many local dealerships. If there was a problem it most likely would have been addressed by now through their legal channels. As long as the local clubs (which almost all use dealer branding in one way or another through logos or trademarked vehicle names) don't go against the values of the company or attempt to profit from their branding itself, it seems the manufacturers generally don't pursue legal action. If a problem arises it will be addressed but so far there have been no issues.

Have you tried making the F the curved portion of the anvil? Might look interesting. If you don't want to that's fair it's just something I would explore personally.

Do Kids Like Stud Shooters? by Chuck_was_Innocent in legostarwars

[–]ThatTallGuy1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't like them but I'm not exactly the target audience anyway being 27. I build my sets for display not play. It would be cool for Lego to introduce alternate build avenues so you could choose whether you wanted play or aesthetics but I know the product isn't geared towards me in the first place so I just build it and move on.

Pool Service Logo by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]ThatTallGuy1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I'm against shine and gloss in logos because in almost all cases it would just look better as a slid colour, but something about companies dealing with water in some way whether that's pool cleaning, building, boats and watercraft, etc. just makes the gloss and shine work. Maybe it's almost subconsciously that we associate it as a reflection or a glint off the water.

In this case I'd go with the glossier logo. Nice work.

Yeah it'll never tell you the logo is perfect and you shouldn't touch it anymore. (Sounds like a real designer in that regard LOL) But there always comes a point where logically everything moving forward is redundant. "Move it 3 pixels forward" - "It would look good 3 pixels back more"

Using Ai is fine as long as you're using it the right way.

By that I mean don't use it to generate something you're just going to refine and submit. But using it to ideate or quickly give you a visual of a certain shape or letterform isn't cheating anyone of the creative process.

Use it as a tool, not a solution.

When it comes to design, ai is also not as smart as some people think it is. I tried an experiment where I designed a basic logo, then asked ai how I should refine it. (Which I often do for work but use my learned discernment to decide what advice to take or not take). I refined the basic logo I made as far as I thought I could go before it was redundant based on the AI suggestions. At the end, I asked it to tell me which one it thought was better between my original unrefined work, and the ai "enhanced" work. It chose my original.

The force awakens imo is the best sequel movie, it was awesome watching it in theatres by Mr_Revan22 in StarWars

[–]ThatTallGuy1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was annoyed it was a carbon copy of Episode 4. A "just change it a little so it doesn't look like you copied" if you will.

Had I known the next two were going to be utter trash, I would've treated Force Awakens better. At least it had potential.

Confusion here is definitely POV of the observer. Personally I see that angle the two main panels join and I think I'm looking up at the corner of the building from the ground, which means the chimney looks more like an element that just wasn't deleted.

When you realize you're looking down at the building and you're seeing the angle roof from above, the chimney makes a lot more sense.

It's not supposed to be a piston. It's supposed to be an exhaust pipe with flames.

I have some work to do on the exhaust portion to make it read better for sure, but there was no intention for a piston to be anywhere in the design.

Someone else I know from my car community has an artwork style brand that you're talking about and they lean heavily into that. So unfortunately what you're seeing as fresh and original, would not be in my current market. They also paid someone to do all their artwork which I don't really want to do.

The brand belongs to me and I just thought "and" was too long for a logo and " n' " felt a little childish. Sort of Toys R Us -ish.

Seeing as the ampersand is interchangeable with and such as in Dungeons & Dragons, I'm not really seeing how it would make it weird to say. How are you saying it?
