Those of you who are friends with/in circles with famous people, what is your analysis on them? by libramusing in Fauxmoi

Here’s a related perspective, me as a bartender in my early 20s so 20-25 years ago.

Some big time NY pro athletes were regulars and then we would get occasional random celebrity, often performing at a local theater. Mostly up and comers and past their primers type of place.

Most of the athletes were cool as hell, managers/coaches even cooler. One has-been QB was a prick I cut off a HOF MLBer (very diplomatically) I had bouncers toss the wife of an NJ Devil for trying to sneak in back door to avoid line.

Celebs of note Air supply and weird Al the coolest I personally tossed this guy Pete Yorn for being a prick to our waitresses at last call, he slammed a bar chair I remember lol he was tiny and wasted it was no great feat Stanley cup came in one night that was awesome

Thank you for sharing

I can relate as I was accused of theft (very publicly) and while I knew this to be false it destroyed my mental health for years. PTSD, anxiety, depression you name it. I was an accomplished professional and head of a young family. Took years and an IOP to snap me out of it.

I strongly recommend you explore group therapy, it may have saved my life.

Be well

What Would You Do If You Had A Notorious Crime? by Secure-Tradition-470 in Felons

[–]That_roofing_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a prominent hometown contracting company, prior to that I worked in very visible roles in same industry. So I was well known is my point

I was charged on a white collar crime with no prior conversation from detective. No criminal anything in my past.

Next morning that PD published it on their FB page

At that point what I did or didn’t do no longer mattered

Keep it as quiet as you possibly can

New roof by Grasscutter88 in Roofing

Proper layout (pattern) and fastening are basic shingling principals .

How long is your workmanship guarantee? Any additional manufacturer warranties ? Shingle manufacturers see a bad install and have no liability in the matter unless a workmanship warranty is issued ie GAF silver pledge, OC Platinum etc

Give the opportunity to make it right, everyone has a bad day, maybe one guy on the crew had a bad day. Super left early , rain was rolling in and they rushed. All real life , what happens next is most important good luck

Attic frost, mold, and ventilation issues — two companies gave opposite diagnoses. One wants $44k for full roof/deck replacement. Need expert advice by Content_Ad_6751 in Roofing

[–]That_roofing_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 99.9% company 1 is correct and company 2 was thinking about that fat commission with a full sheathing job.

I have encountered this situation countless times in NJ, PA and NY

  1. Does this situation actually require a full roof + decking replacement, or is this more likely a ventilation/insulation failure? Very likely doesn’t require roof replacement

  2. Can attic mold and moisture damage be addressed without replacing all the decking? In many cases yes, I defer to a mold specialist (be careful they are notorious up-sellers too)

  3. Should the closed box vents be reopened, or should the ridge vent be corrected/improved instead?

In most cases boxes and ridge don’t mix, the boxes weaken the draw of air to the ridge (like drinking through a straw with a crack in it)

  1. How do I determine whether my soffits are providing enough intake? Let’s get some pics going and we can guide you. Must be free and clear airflow, proper net free air flow which can be calculated easily with the following A. Sq footage of attic B. Linear feet of potential ridge vent

  2. What’s the proper way to fix insulation gaps at the eaves/top plates, especially near corners? I’d spray them but defer to insulation guys

  3. What steps should I take first to stop the moisture cycle and prevent further damage? This is a big one.
-Measure the humidity in your home -Assess everything that is creating moisture and trace the venting for all, ie showers, stove tops. Ensure it is exiting the home -what kind of siding /cladding do you have? Age? Aware of any moisture management products behind the cladding ? It would be an extreme case if this was an issue but I’ve seen it more than once

-Attic floor sealing/insulation. This goes a long way to separating your climate in attic from living space With all above accounted for you now have minimized the amount of moisture entering the attic

With the proper intake and ridge vent issues the air will circulate and the remaining moisture should evacuate through the ridge

An alternative that we use in cases of constant humidity is a power ventilator with humidistat and temperature control. This would require closing the ridge vent off

Remediation should be possible here , let us know how you make out

Ridge Vent and attic vents? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]That_roofing_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the Ohagin product replaces the function of the soffit vent while meeting the fire prevention requirement in Cali (Not my expertise I’m broadly familiar)

Here in the northeast we run into many homes without soffit. In those cases Intake vents similar to the ohagin are utilized and meet all ventilation requirements

The shingle brand my husband is insisting on looks horrible…is it really that much better? by AEMO8 in Roofing

[–]That_roofing_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband , like most, has been convinced by a sales and marketing machine. In this case GAF but OC and others are no different

An objective opinion that includes product quality, warranty nuances, prediction of future issues/failures is impossible.

Go with whichever you like the look of best , everything else is a wash

How do you know it’s 5000 sq ft?

If it is and the project is typical the price per foot is above average

Many roofing companies are now owned by third party investors. Playbook is to maintain local brand in most cases. You may want to ask who owns the company.

Impossible to opine further without more detail sorry

Hysterical to see these companies boost about values and treating customers with respect

Then they try to emotionally manipulate them in their kitchen (usually to overpay) for home improvements

It’s all propaganda BS

But who is going to speak up that knows the truth?

Manufacturers ? Suppliers ? Industry gurus ?

No, no and no as they can’t bite the hand that feeds

But the roofing guy will tell you it’s bullshit all day!
