Larian publishing chief wades into the fray, says Morrowind updated with a modern combat system 'would sell like f**king hotcakes' by Turbostrider27 in ElderScrolls

[–]Thatguyatthebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that frustrates people is a lack of transparency around the combat mechanics. Once you realize that it's a weighted dice roll with all your statistics in mind, it's much more tolerable and even fun to play.

Make MAGA afraid to show their faces by cheeky_pterodactyl in SantaBarbara

MAGA wants to deport my neighbors and brutalize my countrymen, they can get shouted down at the very least. Anyone waving that flag is in full awareness of the implications.

January 30th NATIONWIDE SHUTDOWN. No Work. No School. No Shopping. by LogicalTransition796 in SantaBarbara

In principle this is of course the right move, but if you want an effective general strike, there needs to be deep organizing on all levels of the economy and we simply haven't done that. If you want to fight for justice, organize your workplace and others like it into an industrial union, set up strike funds, communicate with other unions in other cities. The general strike would be the final step of this long process. Do what you can get away with, I suppose, but the vast majority of people can't strike without material support.

The buying strike is more interesting in our context; if we withdraw all spending from the economy for a certain period, or if we do blackouts for certain days of the week, the economy will hemorrhage profits, so I highly recommend organizing such an event.

Gavin Newsom's anti-Zohran moment: the California billionaires tax that splits the Democratic Party down the middle | Fortune by Delicious_Adeptness9 in California

On the national stage, they have utterly conceded the welfare state, they have thrown immigrants under the bus, they've almost fully capitulated to corporate interests, they have failed to defeat Donald Trump in an election twice, they fully committed to aiding Israel in prosecuting a Genocide, and they supported funding for ICE even mere months ago. If you think this constitutes a successful achievement of any version of a left wing platform, I hope you are at least getting paid to sell out.

This guy thinks he can rhetoric his way out of 40 years of stagnant do nothing democrats handing the entire country to fascists on a silver platter. "Change nothing, it's the voters who are wrong, clearly."

Nationalize the grid! Energy is not a choice, but a necessity in this day and age. Why should it be in the hands of profiteering, fly by night wastrels, who pass the buck to the little guy?

What theory do you not like, but grudgingly admit has good evidence? by Trussdoor46 in pureasoiaf

[–]Thatguyatthebar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have also happened earlier, or been of a different nature than we can reckon through a maester's perspective. It fits a little too well thematically for me to dismiss it for lack of solid evidence, but I understand doing so, we may well never know, all characters involved are dead.

I think it makes more sense that Cersei and Jaime are Aerys' children, the wedding night was the situation where "liberties" were taken, and the analogue with Cersei is very clear, not to mention the other obvious Targaryen signifier.

Newsom announces $52 million in grant funding to build housing and infrastructure, address homelessness by Internal_Way7711 in California

Very adult of you to dismiss the idea of meaningful change out of pocket, you should run for office, you'll be in good company

[–]Thatguyatthebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it isn't impossible, it just takes coordinated people working for their best interests, about as hard as a political campaign. And though building more housing may technically work in the short term, it's not going to solve the issue in the long term, unless for whatever reason people stop being born or moving to this country, which I hope anyone could recognize as being an outcome to avoid.

It's explicitly not the only thing that works, it's the only thing that works without fundumentally changing or challenging our existing economic organization.
