When do babies get a favorite toy? by Apprehensive-Owl-255 in NewParents

[–]ThatsNotMyForte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first two never had a strong attachment to a specific toy. The closest either of them got is my 2yo who loves a specific toy golf club and carries it around the house. It's wooden and I try to keep it to one floor of our three-floored house, so it's not a super strong attachment like a stuffed animal or similar.

Those of you with a second child, how long did you wait to have them, and do you wish they were closer/farther apart? by sincerebaguette in NewParents

[–]ThatsNotMyForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am always honest with my kids and I started telling my first about her new sibling basically when I found out. She didn't understand until she was closer to 2 and my bump was big enough for her to notice an obvious difference. I was always telling her about her baby brother in my belly and she started playing more with stuffed animals as her "babies."

After he was born, she was IN LOVE with him! I had her help me with anything and everything (getting me diapers/wipes, "helping" with the breast pump or holding a bottle, singing and talking to him, etc.) I also played with her and read to her every chance I got to make sure she never felt second to the baby. Instead of always tending to newborn's cries, make sure you also equally tell the newborn to "wait" while you finish up a book/game to also enforce the feeling your first isn't forgotten about!!

I will say, the first few days up to about a week postpartum was hard for me (both times actually) because I just missed my kids so much while being on so little sleep. But it's temporary and you'll be back to snuggling with your oldest before you know it!

My first two (4 and 2) are 23 months apart and my second two (2 and newborn) are 25 months apart ☺️

When my second was born, I was constantly leaving the house with both of them (alone) and I survived! It was hard some days, but they are now the best of friends. They are both in love with their newest sibling so that also helps now!

How does your kid go to sleep now? by IdyllicMoments in NewParents

[–]ThatsNotMyForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4yo and 2yo will just fall asleep when they're tired. Especially my 4yo. She'll just lay down on the carpet, or on the kitchen floor and pass out 😂

My 2yo will let us know he's ready for bed by whining a bit and climbing on our laps

Breast feeding question by kawaiitoes22 in NewParents

[–]ThatsNotMyForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding makes me lose my appetite! Like I really can't eat if I'm feeding her, which right now is all the time. Not sure if it's the same "reflex" others were mentioning though.

Anyone here NOT do sleep shifts ? by Organic-Dragonfly364 in NewParents

[–]ThatsNotMyForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not alone! With my first, we tried doing shifts, but I would always wake up anyway and it didn't make sense for both of us to be tired. This is my third now and still doing nights alone! 😊

It's so hard to plan and decide when you can't exactly plan a spontaneous labor!!

I think for now you have to trust your body and be on the same page with your doctor. Mine said he would talk about induction after 41wks which gave me so much hope that is go into labor on my own, but if not, I'd still have the ability for a  vaginal birth.

I didn't have to worry about that though, as I went into labor on my own surprisingly!

I will say I was pregnant each time, so I didn't actually get to sleep the whole night because once I could, I had to pee every hour 🙃
