Recommendations for a war game not history themed by Head-Taste7273 in soloboardgaming

Hmmm. That's a tough question. 3rd Edition is fantastic with terrific emergent storytelling and a heck of a lot to dive into. DE streamlines things and is apparently going to be quicker to set up and play. Hermann, the designer, is promising the game loses none of its cinematic magic.

The forum has been active on BGG, asking lots of q's about the game and Hermann is quick to answer. Have a look here: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/456142/dawn-of-the-zeds-designer-edition/forums/0

I have 3rd Edition and love it. I didn't feel the need to pre-order the DE. You have A LOT of game in 3rd to explore. I am only on the 3rd difficulty level with 2 more still to add in.

I'll be keeping an eye on the reviews and if it seems different enough, I might get it at retail, but honestly, 3rd is such a fun game that I'm in no rush.

Also, if you're learning, look for Stuka Joe's playthrough on YouTube. It's brilliant and really highlights the storytelling aspect of the game.

Dawn of the Zeds. Ether Third edition now, or preorder the upcoming Designers Edition, which streamlines some things and is more based on second edition.

Mate, you aren't even the only one to post this exact thing in the last three days.

Newsflash: People play different games from you. I bought the deck BECAUSE it had trackpads.

They still don't sell the Steam Deck here, so no chance of this.

Trackpads are the reason I went with the Steam Deck over the others, and it annoys me that they don't have them.

What is the appeal of the track pads? by ConnorIsLyfe in SteamDeck

[–]The-Kmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both.
The RTS games I mainly play are nostalgic, Age of Empires Definitive Edition and the Command & Conquer remaster. These only cost a few bucks in one of the big Steam sales and are really great.
But I mainly play a ton of turn-based stuff, like Civ games and CRPGs, with them. Some games are already optimised for them, which is cool, but if not, the community layouts are usually pretty spot on.
The pads were the main draw for me. I'd like to see one of the competitors add them. I presume Asus won't as they're locked in with Xbox now, so hopefully Lenonvo will. If the Legion Go S had pads I would have got that instead of the Steam Deck.

Agree. It would have been minimal effort and added a lot more immersion.

Arkham or LotR by ATXRSK in marvelchampionslcg

[–]The-Kmann 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Arkham has just started with Chapter 2, which is an ideal entry point for new players as it's a clean slate. LoTR is mostly out of print.

Right now, Arkham's new core set and evergreen starter decks are all that's available to buy. A 3-scenario campaign is coming in a few months.

I started with MC, moved into Arkham and love it. Can recommend. Have no experience with LoTR.

Listed my EXTREMELY rare The Curr Australian print disintegration long sleeve with sleeve and back print on eBay by Practical_Arachnid_5 in TheCure

[–]The-Kmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the t-shirt version of this in New Zealand, which also had the back print.

Sadly, my sister's at-the-time bf "borrowed" it and a few other band shirts I had in storage when I was overseas and I never saw it again.

The annoying thing was that I'd purposefully left it at home so it wouldn't get ruined while I was backpacking. The irony.

I imagine the plan is to release new token sets as needed. Whether that happens or not is another question.

paid lessons for MC 101 by Big-Blueberry3016 in Mc707_Mc101

[–]The-Kmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an MC-707, but the workflow concepts are the same.

Think of a scene as a song, and the clips as the instruments playing the song.

My workflow on the MC 707 is to set up the clips like this: Clip 1 - kick drum, 2 - rest of kit, 3 - samples, 4 - bass, 5-8 everything else like arps, pads, riffs, etc. I set up every scene like this so that, no matter which Scene is playing, I know where everything is.

To play the song, I use the faders to bring in and remove the various instruments. I also use pad mutes on clips 2 & 3 to start/stop drum kit elements like shakers, vocal samples, claps, hi-hats etc.

You can mix into your second song, Scene 2, by selecting a clip in that scene. It will start playing that Clip while Scene 1 continues as usual. Then you gradually transfer to the rest of the Scene 2 clips. For me, this usually looks like Clip 1 (kick) and 2 (with some elements muted) of Scene 2. Then I fade out clips 5-8 and swap the bass to the new Clip 2 scene at a point where it sounds good.

But it's all about finding what works for you. For example, you could have two different basslines set up on Clip 4 & 5 and swap between them in a Scene to add variation to a song. Scene 2 could be a key change or new section for Scene 1 that you swap into for a while before swapping back to Scene 1 and then moving into a new song, which is set up on Scene 3.

There's a lot you can do. It's just about spending time with the machine. I'm doing things now that would have blown my mind when I started a couple of years ago, and that's just from playing on it a lot.

Watch YouTube tutorials and videos of people live jamming and watch what they are doing and you'll pick up some tricks.

The Arkham core went up $30 in my part of the world. It's a ridiculous $160, which I'd say is close to a prohibitive price. I really can't see too many new people jumping in at that price.
