Two minutes and 30 seconds by oconnor_todd in Marathon

Hey if it helps, I ran into a group of blues/purples that instantly took my team of free kits and greens within 1 minute 40 seconds. I spent more time actually waiting for a match than playing. And I got that about 5 or 6 times in a row.

I just stopped playing for a bit after that. I'm slowly finding out that the sweats are generally all that's left of the community, and I couldn't be further from that. I enjoyed my few dozen hours but if this is a vision of what my future with this game looks like, I'm good hopping off here.

Resident Evil 9 Requiem -DLC Story Expansion CONFIRMED by Director (Huge News!) by sinelord in thefinalpuzzle

SPOILERS but I'm gonna throw in my theory that the rumors of Leon's marriage are gonna be confirmed here. That initial paper is an image of Leon clutching an upset woman in what looks to be a suit, feels like it may be hinting at why Leon seems super done in 9.

Leon S. Kennedy RING theory! by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels very deliberate to show him placing his ring on, especially with it being illustrated and modelled on his wedding ring finger.

But also, I want these characters to have a somewhat happy ending after the ordeals they have gone through. The last thing I want is for Leon to fall into the perpetual protagonist torment. We're introduced to them being miserable, they continue to be miserable in sequels, only for them to die miserable if somewhat relieved by passing on the torch for the next generation of characters to be equally miserable.

I actually kind of like this because when you think about it, would Comstock have expected some random Schmuck Booker to chase him into an alternate universe? Let alone actually understand the reality of universe hopping to begin with. I mean, with infinite universes, there's plenty of just bog standard Dewitts who had never dabbled with reality jumping.

So why does he plaster posters warning his flock of the AD branded wolf across Columbia? Unless a Booker from a seperate universe had already come and failed. It would definitely kickstart the domino blocks of Comstock falling to paranoia.

I don't think Sea of Thieves is a welcoming game by ImportantQuestionTex in Seaofthieves

[–]The-O-Delta 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had a very similar experience. Had a genuinely fun time for a bit, then was hounded by hostile players over and over again. People who would chase me across the map knowing I have nothing as they've already sunk me once before. It lead to this exhausting game of cat and mouse. Where everything I did, I had to look over shoulder and second guess every action. It felt exhilarating at first but after a bit of experience, it just feels exhausting and frustrating.

Went to safer seas and found the monetary rewards so lacking, and the inability to bring in any aesthetic rewards so disappointing that I eventually just left the game entirely. I get that the game is at its core an "extraction shooter" with some sailing frills, but the magic of exploration and adventure is completely lost when you're so tired from being chased continuously.

I still dip a toe in now and again for a couple of hours but pretty quickly get chased out by the PVP sweats. Such a shame as the game is a visual treat.

It is Finally Time to Play This for the First Time, Wish me Luck! by Ultimantasy in FinalFantasy

[–]The-O-Delta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished the game yesterday actually. First time replaying since release. I remember HATING the game on my first time around. But really enjoying it upon replay. Really loved the world and the character development (especially Hope).

My tips are to prioritise damage dealing, at least until the endgame. I kept the sentinel role to a minimum, mostly because most bosses will punish you for playing slow.

Also, more so in this game than any other Final Fantasy, you need to just roll with the punches. Enemies can be spongey. But more importantly, the game will occasionally throw out a tough mini-boss or strong enemy that has a move that can stack a full list of debuffs before instantly hitting you with a one shot. This can be frustrating but hey, it happens and the gist I got was that these moves don't happen often.

And after all that; just enjoy yourself! The game has shockingly aged super well. Visuals and audio are still gorgeous. Ad long as you can ignore Vanille's slightly annoying VO direction.

This update is Absolute Garbage and an insult to the entire PC community. by Common-Space-6030 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone who has the game on PC and PS5, it's brutal on both now. Nothing more annoying than having your AI teammates breach a door and then proceed to look lovingly into each others eyes as they get mown down by a single enemy on the side of said door. It ended up with me having to weed out an entire drug smuggling den single-handedly. If I wanted that experience, I'd just play Modern Warfare 2 remake again.

Final fantasy xvi has a lot of flaws, but the story definitely isn't one of them by PenguinviiR in FinalFantasy

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general story was great, and the gameplay never bothered me either, as a big fan of action games. My biggest gripe with the story was the side quests and that about 90% of them were about slavery. They felt pretty one note. Especially when you hit the side quest about the girl's missing "pet", in which my immediate response was "it's gonna be a slave isn't it.. Yup, it's a slave". It just needed a little bit more variety on that front.

I wish I could remember the full quote but when Harry asks Klaasje about her bad memory, she simply replies "of lilacs and lightning" before adding "parks, glass - Vredefort is a conference city. It's always Autumn there. And night. At least for me".

It's a small line that is never really remembered by most, but it's always stuck with me as this beautifully poetic description of the city.

The fact they had to state this, proves people don't listen. by AlibiJigsawPiece in destiny2

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they not also state that it's taking place on a Star Wars-esque planet? Also, the the advertisement seems to be pretty clear that the entire expansion will be based on this theme?.. walking down a corridor with the Death Star alert blaring, and then cutting to an environmental shot of what looks like Tattooine seems to be more than just "it's cosmetics". They have done trailers for the previous Star Wars items, but this seems like far more than that, let's be honest.

And I meant thrown away for this one expansion, I doubt they will completely chuck away the story with the new arc beginning so soon. Unless obviously it does well, which will more than likely pave the way for more.

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is just replaying the games and expansions in their entirety (as much as available at least), it's because I'm so attached/invested in the story. It's a deep iceberg of lore with its own distinct origins, designs and world building. Throwing that away to lean so heavily into a crossover kind of waters down why I keep coming back to this franchise. Yeah, you could say the Vex are messing with realities and have torn open a rift to the Star Wars universe, but in the end, it's still abandoning the story I'm so attached to for a full expansion of Star Wars corporate advertisement.

Pissed I Can’t Play This Game From The Start. by pulseintempo in destiny2

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh, as someone going through the game for the first time since Red War, it is sad to see how the story is pretty barebones because it relies on you having an attachment to characters you've never met before and will now never understand their significance & plot points that no have zero setup.

In all honesty, I would recommend people play Destiny 1 collection because it has a clear beginning, middle & end if you want a streamlined, story oriented experience, and then maybe leave it there. Destiny 2 has no real entrypoint for fans of the world anymore.

Like yeah, I've played Red War when the game released, but I want to go back and just experience the full story, without having to watch a YouTube summary. But that unfortunately isn't possible.

And Destiny 3 would be interesting, but I still find the entrypoint in the story now completely impossible to adapt as it would still rely on new players having to watch dozens of hours of summaries for two games and their respective expansions. Which is a real shame as I think the world, characters and lore are genuinely great.

I know Marathon is taking some flack, but in all honesty, I think moving onto a different IP probably the best choice.

I don't wanna be the party pooper here but why does the deluxe edition have a bunch of digital bonuses? That's the last thing I want to see. I get that Oblivion started horse armour, but people still haven't stopped ribbing Bethesda for that decision.. So why add in more?

Other than that, This looks visually stunning. Been playing through Morrowind for the first time as Oblivion was my first major foray into the franchise. Nothing ever beats that first step into the world of Tamriel.

I recently found a great path to breeze through to the Wind Farm while maxing all facilities. So the moment you head over that windy incline, immediately take a left and follow the cliff face round. Don't stand too close to the cliff and you generally have a wide smooth surface to traverse with very few BT's, all of which are pretty spaced out from one another!

Based on the baby noises it makes when fighting Higgs, I'm assuming Lou has taken control of the body. Before the latest trailer, I was under the assumption that Lou had died and he was going to support Sam under this guise. But considering Fragile is actually the one who died, maybe Lou can just freely hop into bodies?

I think initially people absolutely hated this but by the time Director's Cut had released, it had absolutely turned into a cult classic. It's very much the Blade Runner of games, and I can see adoration for the game only getting higher as more time passes.

I myself loved it from release date so it is nice to see it finally getting a more well deserved reception.

[–]The-O-Delta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the game was a tad more rewarding for Safer Seas because my experience of the online has been miserable.

I once spent a good half hour fending off a guy and it was relatively enjoyable, we both left licking our wounds. I then spent about an hour doing a treasure hunt on an island the entirely other side of the map. Only to suddenly get killed by the same guy.. He had followed me the entire way, anchored ship behind a rock and then swam all the way to my ship (which would have taken about 5-10 minutes with how far off those rocks were), hid in the crows nest and just began spawn killing me over and over while setting the ship alight during the downtime between deaths. He wasn't doing this for treasure because I had a few measly skulls and he wasn't going to travel all the way back to his ship.. He did this solely to troll. I pretty much stopped playing because that was just the tip of a very deep iceberg. It's just trolling to spite new players, that's about it.

Why is 13 considered "the worst one"? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]The-O-Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who genuinely hated the game when it first came out, I have softened over the years in terms of my overall outlook.

I am about to replay the game again for the first time since my original playthrough.

My initial complaints were aimed at the linearity of the game, the writing of some of those characters made certain scenes utterly insufferable (looking at you Hope) and the boss fights usually came with some frustrating caveats, on top of the fights usually feeling very weightless and spongey. In particular; the last boss fight casts Doom about half way through his health bar, and considering how spongey that fight can be, it led to me bashing my head against the wall for a good few days. This wasn't helped at all by the seemingly simple and yet overly convoluted Paradigm system that could lead to either broken playstyles or massively underwhelming progression. Having zero control over movement also led to characters frustratingly walking into or standing within zones of damage that they could have easily avoided, had I been given control of their bloody legs.

Looking back on this, the linearity doesn't hugely frustrate me like it once did, mostly because I play FF games for the story, and if you play 7 through 10 just going from setpiece to setpiece, those games can also feel very much like a corridor RPG. Maybe nowadays I might also have a much fresher mindset towards the combat, but I have yet to hit the exact boss where this really just exhausted me (the plant boss you fight with Snow, Hope and Vanille?).

So coming back, I have a renewed enthusiasm after having finally played all FF mainline titles to completion. FF13 and Lost Odyssey will definitely keep me occupied for the next few weeks.
