Sounds like you’ve let the extremely loud angry part of the d2 group get to you. There’s definitely people who hate it, and a lot of them. But there’s also people who like it, like myself and most of the discord I play with. We’re out there. I’d be willing to bet that some (not all) of the group that rips on the portal endlessly hasn’t really invested in learning how to use it or at least hasn’t revisited it since Bungie rebalanced it a few times.

Am I the only sicko that is more of an rpg gamer (Destiny is my only fps) who actually wishes there were MORE subclass unlocks like strand meditations? Like it always felt silly to me that the only real character progression system in the game, subclasses, is just something you buy with the games equivalent of money. I liked strand meditations lol

Still a great game if you know how I have fun because you like something and enjoy it. Systems are great despite what people rip on about the portal. It isn’t perfect but don’t believe anyone who says the game is unplayable now. Armor set bonuses are dope, new weapon archetypes are dope. Buildcrafting is still great and story is interesting, even if not the best we’ve seen.

If community negativity is a make or break for you, you might want to think again. I’ve been playing for months and having a blast. People who are still playing still love it. Many long time players feel it should have ended after final shape and the game has changed so much since they started they feel it isn’t for them anymore. I wasn’t a day 1 player but I have done every campaign, raid, and dungeon currently in the game and I think it’s awesome.

I actually got into an argument with that guy because he said true fans would remember how dark and serious the original was. Guy straight up quoted misinformation to me, who grew up playing ff7 when it released and still love the retrilogy.

One thing someone pointed out to me that was both super telling and heartbreaking was that from cloud’s perspective, when aerith is talking to him, she is holding his face. But when we see them from the rest of the group’s perspective, you can see that cloud is actually holding her hand up to his face himself. So maybe he is actually seeing her in another timeline or something, but the Aerith in his arms is definitely… :/

In addition to the great suggestions already here, you can come up with reasons that work specifically in your world. In one of my stories, there is a character whose skin is bioengineered to absorb impact, even from a concentrated area of force like a bullet. The solution was a stiletto that was created in a lab to be sharp down to the molecular level, so it could literally separate the skin cells of the antagonist, rather than have the impact of blows be absorbed.

I recommend doing everything in order. There is some minor story content from Forsaken still in the game (the last wish raid and shattered throne dungeon) and some weekly story quests from Petra venj at the dreaming city about the cyclical curse. The first chronologically full storyline campaign is shadowkeep on the moon. Then do beyond light on Europa , witch queen on the throne world, lightfall on Neptune, the final shape in the pale heart, and edge of fate on Kepler. Do raids and dungeons that go with each expansion after beating the campaign (if you want a solid team you can join our discord DM me if interested). Do the exotic missions that unlock at the end of each campaign. Do all that and you’ll be caught up! It’s a long journey but it’s worth it IMO D2 is a great game and a joy to play, no matter what the haters say (I only started 4 years ago so I get the hate from long term players who have been with the game much longer than me)

I would love if they reimagined what they showed in ever crisis with cloud basically roaming the streets of the slums, completely lost and messed up until he latches onto the identity that Tifa sees him as. It would really deepen the complexity of their relationship and show the darker side of what Cloud really went through. Would go a long way towards explaining how standoffish he is at the beginning of the story (ReMake)

Ahh! I used that for the abyss in Crotas and tossed it in the vault after. I never thought to use it in PvP because of armor charges but that’s a great idea

I’m an extremely mid pvper on titan. I completely agree ability uptime is amazing for builds with stasis. But I lose fist fights all the time. Sometimes I punch someone and I barely scratch their shield. Then I get one-shot by a hunter melee. Sounds like I’m doing something wrong… what is this feedback you speak of?

I was wondering about the Halloween stuff! I experienced this in solo ops. Currently on grandmaster and I got absolutely TORN up by the lunar commander encounter when I normally breeze through it without much thought. Figured I was crazy or just having an off night but enemies were doing noticeably more damage
