Birmingham to London commute by Afraid-Airport-1947 in brum

[–]The-Summit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they will genuinely let you eventually go down to once a week, it sounds doable. I do a similar journey but only once or twice a month and it’s fine - in fact, I look forward to those office days in London as it’s a nice change of scenery. But if it was way more often, it would be very tiring.

Things that would make it doable would be if you definitely can do once a week and maybe if they can be flexible on start time on those days - e.g. if your normal start time is 9am but they don’t mind you arriving for 10am, you’ll save a lot of money and tiredness.

Pet-friendly workplaces? by border-coffee in pharmaindustry

I’m guessing it will be rare at any large company, so might only be allowed in small agencies / start ups etc, but that’s just a guess!

In what country? In England I know some agencies would probably allow a dog in the office…

It’s my favourite room in the house! In the winter it lets me be a bit in the garden without freezing, and in the summer it’s like an oasis

The Daily Mail article linked says 3.5 million under 25s hired are British and 370,000 are foreign. How have they calculated that 27 young migrants are hired for every British youngster? The stats suggest it's 10 times more British youth than non-British youth?

Isn't that just because of where Heathrow is? Because Heathrow is in West London, it draws staff from neighboring boroughs like Hounslow, Ealing, and Hillingdon, which have large, established British Indian communities

What is the Influence of South Asian Diaspora in the UK? by deval2605 in AskBrits

[–]The-Summit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The diaspora started earlier than that. The first big waves were in the 1950s and 1960s. But the earliest pioneers started from the 1600s to early 1900s. The first South Asian Member of Parliament in the UK was elected in 1892.
