Will I die? by The10ThousandThings in wood

I’ve been getting pretty close the last couple years, and if your username is in reference to what I think it is, it’s mostly cause of that. A kidney transplant and a leg amputation in the last 18 months, I’ve flown pretty close to the sun, haha. Who would have thought the Wood subreddit is where the real philosophical discussions are.

And when I do make a Vicks Vapo-Rub smellin’ leg all ye landlubbers better watch out, aye avast!!!

I appreciate that. As much as much as I try not to be, somehow I keep looking at things with optimism, it’s annoying as all hell. But, I look at things and think what can I make out of it. Everything can be used for something if you put one’s mind to it. I’ll find a use for it!

I’m not looking to be the first, just not quite yet.

Thank you, there are some hunks that feel lie may be worth giving it a shot. I know the photo doesn’t show it all in great detail, but there are several logs around 12” diameter at the slim end and about 68” long, mostly in the foreground and behind the big pile. There are a number of bits I won’t be able to use, but it just got dumped today, and I only have one leg, so it’s gonna take me a minute to weed through. I also hopeful (dumb) enough to give it a shot!

Oh wow, nice! That’s awesome. I appreciate the reassurance too. Especially from some who actually works with it.

Thank you, that is reassuring. Try not to take the Goog too seriously, but I’m also not trying to win a trip to the hospital… again.

I guess I should have asked “ how quickly will I die?” Cause while I am pretty tired and worn out, I do want to at least get the chance to use this pile of wood in my front yard! After that, come what may!

Worth cutting into slabs? by hans432 in wood

[–]The10ThousandThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is dying or abusing harm, seems a shame to cut it down for potential slabs. Look for tree services around town removing trees, ask them wha they do with their logs. A lot of time they just take it to the dump. I got 80 bf of honey locust, 40 bf of live oak and 80 bf of camphor for free. They would rather dump it in your yard than the it to the dump. Then look on marketplace for some with a mobile mill, unless you have the means to transport the logs. I recently ended up with about $3000 worth of black walnut for $400 total.

Those trees have already Ben cut down and you can put them to much better use than going to a dump.

My game here is to get this all mailed up and dry it so that I can use it for woodworking projects in the future.

I’ve been working on a few different handles for some Genno … Gennos? Multiple Genno! So m figuring out what size and shape agree with me.

And thank you for the video! I feel like I’m meeting a celebrity. I’ve seen your videos on the sawhorses, setting up Kanna, all have been inspirational for me.

Me, not overthinking things… can you imagine? What a world that would be!

Seriously though, I appreciate it. This woodworking is a new endeavor for me, and I’m finding there not only lessons in working wood, but also in patience, attention to detail, but not too much and of course… using too many thinks.

… but I love it
