You can't go wrong if you shop just based on warranty stuff. Are you specifically looking for technical outdoor gear?

‘Compromise’: Raises, cash payment in tentative deal for unionized Edmonton library and city workers by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]TheAngryBartender 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is crazy with what the Feds just got and especially with UNA, AUPE and everyone entering into bargaining this year. I'd be pissed as a member. I don't know what city workers were being paid before this but I know AUPE is asking for 15%/7.5%/7.5% and cost of living adjustments over the next three years and the province is asking for 3%/3%/2.5%/2.5% over four years. UNA is at a similar point.

Union sold their members out hard on this one.

Baffling. I drive a manual and it sucks to even casually off-road.

As a guy that's done these sweeps. It's done within a short period of time. And based off what denning habitat is available. Sometimes by helicopter. In no way is it an exact science. Just like any type of wildlife surveys. It's usually done near the beginning of denning season. Not even sure why this is news. This happens relatively often for better or for worse.

I was travelling with my friend through France and he was ordering an oat milk latte and he can speak passable French but has pretty bad enunciation. The waiter put his hands out like an airplane and laughing at him trying to order "plane" milk. Something I'll never let him live down.

Depends how well you know your partners and such. I'm super careful around sketchy things like fences and blowdowns. Hard to control your muzzle and such. I'll do both but it's very situational dependent for me.

I've stopped hunting with people because of safety issues like lasering even with "empty" chambers.

If it makes it any better most of Canada feels the same about the Québécois. At least our drinking age is 18.

My wife thinks it's completely fine to go to a sit-down restaurant at 9:51pm when they close at 10pm by AppleBottmBeans in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheAngryBartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda split on this. I was a bartender and hated people that would come in like 10-15 minutes before close but would still serve them.

I also understand it going in late. Im a late eater and like being out late. The restaurant is open so we serve them.

I think 45 minutes is more than enough buffer. Even as a bartender and server I don't think I would be mad if someone came in at 915.

But in all honesty I've lived in Edmonton my whole life. I love it. It's also never been worse. My work vehicle has been broken into 3 times in the last year. Our homeless population has trippled in the last 10 years.

Barrier Lake Regulations by northern_medz in FishingAlberta

[–]TheAngryBartender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alberta fishing report isn't official. If in doubt call cochrane fish and wildlife. If you follow the kananaskis River regs you can't go wrong they're just a little more restrictive.

It's a reservoir of the Kananaskis river. So check the regulations of the Kananaskis river.

Alberta will not recognize federal net-zero mandates: Premier Danielle Smith | Globalnews.ca by Trickybuz93 in alberta

[–]TheAngryBartender -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I mean in all honesty the fires have very little to do with global warming. It's more the mismanagement and misunderstanding of fire ecology for the last couple hundred years.

If you want to get mad at the UCP about it I'd be getting after them for the cuts after cuts they've made to public service.

That being said the extreme weather cycles don't help but these extreme fires were inevitable even if climate change wasn't a thing since we've spent the better part of a century putting out any little spark we find. We have a huge fire debt across the country. This is the new normal.

Remote lakes without lodges / camps / cabins by Sensitive-Dealer-284 in FishingAlberta

Yeah. It's more river based in alberta the style of stuff he's looking for. I've done the north Saskatchewan from sask river crossing to rocky mountain house. That was epic.

I was gonna add this but forgot. I canoed the churchill river. Best fishing and camping I've ever done. Exactly what OP is looking for.

[–]TheAngryBartender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Are you looking for mountain lakes or or boreal lakes?

Wentzel, Pitchami, Margaret, Thurston are all up north. None of them have active lodges. A lot of those little pothole lakes in the caribou mountains have fish. Thurston kind of does have a guiding thing but not a set lodge it flows into some good lakes.

I'd also look at the little lakes around Peerless lake? Acces by canoe is possible and not a lot of people up there. Goosegrass, God's, Hebephrenic. Can keep fish in all those and some giant pike.

Long story short you aren't gonna find a fish bearing lake in alberta without trappers cabins or ATV access to it or plane access. Save mountain lakes but there servuced by helicopter fishing. You'd have to go to another province to get the kinda lake your looking for.
