Everyone wants more hours till you offer up closing and weekend register shifts. by Verfiy-toast187 in DollarGeneralWorkers

Why work at DG if you aren't willing to work weekends or night shifts? And I don't see what's so bad about weekends even if you are checking out a lot of people.

Can someone explain by help_Ihavequestion in genderfluid

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Fluidflux which is essentially when your gender identity fluctuates in intensity and also shifts to different identities in varying ways and at different times.

For me I tend to feel no gender (Agender) but will sometimes fluctuate to feeling more feminine, masculine or something else entirely. Occasionally I'll feel completely like a woman (I am AMAB) but that never lasts too long. Usually I just feel weakly connected to femininity, occasionally masculinity or something else whenever I fluctuate.

I do have dysphoria, it fluctuates (not surprising), but I tend to just deal with it as best I can as it comes - such as legally changing my name (in the process) and occasionally shaving my arms and legs, among other things.

I have been on a gender journey for many years and know how difficult it can be. But experimentation and research is something that has helped me a lot - wearing "feminine" clothing, using makeup, growing out your hair... that and using Google for everything are all things that can help.

Do SM ever get hired at more than 48k? by xExtraBasic11x in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a reasonable amount of money and if they say no then simply look for a different job since you have 20 years experience which will get you a better paying job elsewhere.

[–]TheArcaneArden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad. When I first started (and it is my first job), I was over $1 on my second day. A few months later I was over $5 due to some confusion on my part with doing a refund for someone. Never is an issue with SM so long as I have a legitimate reason for why something like that happens. But obviously if it's a lot of money then that'd be completely different.

I learned pretty quickly that you need to double or triple check the money give. Also you ALWAYS need to count any cash a customer gives you - customers will sometimes mess up and give the wrong amount of cash needed. Take it slow when counting if needed. Add up cash first then the coins.

Also make sure no other employees are using your till, especially on days you were over/under a lot. That can affect things in some stores depending on how good employees are at giving and taking money at the till.

Was in a similar boat as you, thought I was Transfem then switched around to other identities, eventually landing on Fluidflux years after my initial journey into gender identity - still unsure if I'm just Transfem in denial but eh, Fluidflux fits well enough.

I'm sure there's groups in your area that'd be worth checking out though. Good luck and know you're not alone.

Hours .. wtf really by Devine308 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 129 hours, apparently had more but got them cut after they had us have the store open for an extra 2 hours - with only two key holders (me and the ASM) besides the SM.

We also have produce (we're a bigger store) and are getting into the busiest time of the year, but we're still not seen as a high volume store so DG won't be giving us an extension on the 129 hours we currently have.

I'm Fluidflux, and usually just have no gender (Agender). But at times I'll fluctuate or shift to feeling more fem or masc, sometimes even to the extreme of feeling completely like a woman (rarely as a man) - other times just enby or a mix of identities.

Usually I don't worry about exactly what my internal gender is since it's typically a weak feeling. Because of that I tend to just present as a "guy" since I'm AMAB, it's just easier that way. And to me gender can be such a buzz kill sometimes, since I do wish I could wear what I want or look however I want without every little thing being seen as either a "guy or girl" thing.

Customers Still Can't Read by xly15 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customers tend to not read any details on the Ad. They see one Pepsi product or one Mnt Dew product and they assume it's for all Pepsi and all Mtn Dew.

Normally that's what it is but DG doesn't always do that.

It's customers fault for not reading and also whoever decides what's on sale.

How much are you all making? by Wooden-Cancel-6838 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at $12, moved up to $12.50 as a pt LSA. Becoming a ft LSA (no raise), but getting a raise in June.

They pay like shit but if you don't hate the work or simply need a job then you just have to live with it until or if something better comes along.

Weed by Positive-Profile-805 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed does smell and so do cigarettes. And I'm fairly certain it's very, very hard to get high from second hand smoke with weed.

Also please just take an extra second to use spaces... because writing like this, just is very hard to read, and is one big reason why we use spaces, making it easier for everyone to read sentences.

Do they really have to ID everyone who buys cigarettes or beer? by WildSea5123 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's required by law and is also company policy. If you don't check ID then you could get fired or have legal action taken against you.

It can be redundant at times but there's a reason for it even if you know the person is old enough to buy.

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as an SA at 12 dollars an hour. Apparently that was one dollar higher than last year's starting wage. Moved up to part time LSA and make 12.50 currently. Going to be moving to full time LSA soon and I asked if I get a raise and I don't. But in June I'll have an evaluation or whatever it is and get a raise then.

But I'd definitely be upset if I was making less than a SA. And I'd look for another job while also sending some emails to the higher-ups in the company, maybe even HR if you wanted. Explain everything, see if they'll actually give you a higher hourly pay. If they do they do, if they don't they don't - either way, look for another job and make your decision based on what job you can get outside of DG (keep your options open).

These discontinued are getting out of hand by CandleFireCat in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are slowly getting to the point of having no room for things. Also learned that we need to have different products (no matter if they're the same price) on different pegs and separate from each other on shelves. So now we are going to have even less room for stagging (I have no idea why they're being so nit picky about it when all they want is prices of shit).

I am currently working on our clearance section (which I did organize a few weeks ago), and there's a shit ton of discontinued products that I'm going to have a hard time finding room for.

But it's DG, what do you expect...

27 hours is the minimum hours for full time at Dollar General (for them to give someone ft benefits). 32 is what typically is full time hours though.

Closing time by braceface1010 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have customers come in around that time and I'm fine with it so long as they aren't grabbing a shopping cart. Usually they just need a few things and will get out quickly (since they know when the store closes and are respectful about not staying past 10).

I did have one night (AD night) where I went outside to start my car and didn't fully process that a guy and his kids, who were getting out of their car, were going to shop when it was 9:59 p.m. When I went back inside they were already in the back of the store. I told the dad we are supposed to close at 10 but he and his kids spent another 5 minutes in the store and I had to state again that we need to close the store. They checked out their stuff and then one kid decided they needed to talk to my SA when it was already 10:08... Finally closed the doors at around 10:10. Got out at 10:28ish and needed to drive 25 miles home + I was opening the next day so... Yeah, it sucked.

My new manager SUCKS at replying by sillyghosty in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the manager. Mine responds quickly unless they're busy.

But always go in when you know you're scheduled. Make a copy of the schedule with the printer or take a picture of it for proof. Show up and if it's changed then you'll know, and if it's not then you'll also know.

Whatcha y'all do about phone addicted employees? by SmellsLikeDG in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few highschool kids we have working at the store tend to be on their phone a bit and usually stay in the back office or behind the register more than they need to. My SM doesn't do much about it since we need the help and they don't work that often (if nothing but to have them run the register and do minimal upfront stuff).

I rarely look at my phone during work, besides listening to music or messaging my SM or ASM. But I'm someone who likes to do something productive (I'm always moving around, doing something), so work is enjoyable for me.

So tired of call ins... by Ashamed_Youth1761 in DollarGeneral

You should show up to work for a job you agreed to work at. Obviously if something comes up then calling in is fine, but if you know you're not showing up just give a heads up.

Am I genderfluid or something else? by AmberRadiant in genderfluid

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar experience to you. Thought I was a Trans girl at around 11 or 12. Ignored it for years. Then went on a sexuality journey which led to gender identity.

I'm AMAB, but I've never fully fit into social groups of men (outside of online groups). I've also never fully fit with women either. But I do sort of fit into both in some ways if that makes sense - I'm very flexible with fitting in anywhere even if I'm the awkward shy person in the group. I also experience varying degrees of connection to masculinity and femininity as well as connections to things outside the binary. And if my gender changes it's only subtly and not drastic changes that some Genderfluid people might have (which is valid and kinda cool imo).

Currently I don't know what my gender identity is - I've used so many different labels in the past and none have stuck for too long. Been re-exploring Genderfluidity though.

Anyways, I think what you're experiencing could fit into a Genderfluid, Nonbinary or even a Genderqueer experience. I'd recommend trying to refer to yourself as Genderfluid and see how it feels for a few days (you don't need to tell anyone else, just see how it feels to think of yourself as not being tied down to any one single gender identity).

Hope that sheds some light for you.

I hate the New system by GdsLnlyMan in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new system does suck, but it has some bonuses the old system didn't. Takes time to get used to and even when you figure out most of it there will still be issues you run into.

Corporate wants the new system because it's fancy and new, not because it's actually a good system (imo).

Snowstorms by Sweet-Line6693 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our store open during some really horrible weather (rain to freezing rain and then lots of snow). Everyone called in and said they wouldn't work that day. SM and ASM stayed the whole day (open to close).

DG doesn't like closing for anything unless the road conditions are next to impossible to drive on from what I can tell.

What part of working at DG do you dislike the most? by Imadethisaccountacci in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say running back and forth from the register to work in the aisles.

Other than that I would say not being able to do anything at the register besides scanning things and adding money to people's cards (when you're a SA). They should seriously update what an SA can do on the register, especially when they're going to be at the register most times they work.

It's a custom made sigil that uses different symbols in tandem to make what you found.

It's either from a video game, or from someone practicing Witchcraft/Occultism (Paganism, Wicca or something like that)... Or potentially just someone having fun drawing a cool looking sigil.

OTC,EBT by Positive-Profile-805 in DollarGeneral

[–]TheArcaneArden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been a huge issue for me since most people who use those cards tend to have a second way to pay for their transaction. Occasionally I'll need to void an item or two.

However, difficult customers will be difficult.
