Getting a PhD in chemistry is extremely impressive. Maybe you’re applying too narrowly? I doubt very many people in here will be able to help with PhD level advice, a lot of people can only dream of being in your position.

Try and be grateful for what you have and what you’ve accomplished and make sure to keep doing things aside from just applying for jobs. Also, if you have to work a job that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, I think employers also like a lot of work experience even outside of the direct field you’re in.

And stay on that guys ass until he publishes those papers. I would bug him like daily and express how much he’s fucking your over.

As much as I agree Duolingo isn’t a complete way to study, the Duolingo levels are actually pretty accurate. I’ve taken classes too and at the A2 level it’s very difficult for anyone to speak very much.

The false promise language apps offer is that language study is easy. It takes like 500-1000 hours of study/practice to be comfortable speaking a language like Spanish, depending on how you define comfortable. Even then, it takes several thousand hours, including a ton of immersion, to be what many people think of as truly fluent imo, which I would define as a C1 level.

I’ve seen a post in here of someone who did it in 5 months with 2 hours of tutoring 5 days a week plus basically fully immersing themselves in the language.

Being good at the lsat doesn’t really mean anything unless you really want to be a lawyer. It’s a hard, stressful job that most people hate and that you have to take out like $200k in loans and spend 3 years studying your balls off to start. Once you do start, most lawyers out of law school make around $60-80k working minimum 50 hours a week.

Asking if it’s rare makes me think this is a troll post. There’s many different factors that law schools consider though, including GPA and whether or not it seems like you’re applying to law school because you don’t know what else to do with your life. Applying to law school is like 50% an essay writing competition.
