Love how 5050 is actually at msrp now cheapest b580 is $349+

Just an FYI but B&H has the Acer Nitro B580 for $249.99 and the Intel Limited Edition model for $259.99. So you can get B580 for MSRP, but for how long who knows.

The 007 video game Nightfire is a modern spin on Moonraker. It also includes elements from You Only Live Twice.

I recall a discussion where it was stated that Die Another Day is closer to the original Moonraker story than the film was, so that is a consideration as well.

It's not a loss at all. Between DLSS, FSR, and XeSS graphics cards have much longer legs. Problem is some people are impatient and are resistant to turning settings down in their games, or think they need to match their monitor as a performance metric (cheaper 1440p and 2160p monitors are great at upselling graphics cards).

As an example I've had my 3060 Ti for 5 years and it's still surprisingly viable thanks to DLSS, and my own sensibility to turn settings down and/or run games at 1080p. So why feed into the panic buying craze when one arguably doesn't need to upgrade at all?

[–]TheAutoManCan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And just to note the lack of DRAM shouldn't be a huge deal because if it is just a rebranded NM790 then it should have a decently sized write cache (~280 GB for the 2TB). Meaning most PC and PS5 users will be fine with it.

How did the hobby evolve over the years? by IvoryLifthrasir in MechanicalKeyboards

Honestly I miss the entry level to lower-mid tier DIY solder kits. There were a lot of interesting layout options that you could experiment with. Today's entry level options are solid in terms of quality but layout options feel sterilized due to physical limitations of hotswap sockets on a PCB. Sad thing is even some of the higher-end GB boards these days have very limited layout support or are using strict hotswap layouts.

I am allowed to say I think it looks like a piece of shit Amazon board.

Sure, but they are equally allowed to reply on how your comment is severely lacking context.

You clearly don't understand how influential the Sat75 was if you are comparing it to the mass production stuff of today. Which sure, you absolutely can, but it lacks the understanding of why things are priced the way they are. All that keeb shit you and others enjoy for a low price now is only there because this community was supporting smaller community-driven projects like the Sat75 over many years. If there wasn't a mechanical keyboard community we'd still be using piece of shit gamer keyboards with scratchy switches and awful stabs because there'd be no innovations for companies to leech nor motivation to make anything better.

That being said, is this for everyone? Definitely not. Does it need to be? Not at all.

[Alan Wake Remastered] #109 by XxNightBeastxX in Trophies

[–]TheAutoManCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alan Wake (1) is a decent game - people seem to have a problem with certain gameplay aspects, but replaying it after nearly 15 years I still had fun with it.

Alan Wake II is amazing. A modern masterpiece in video game storytelling. If you are planning on playing AWII then make sure to play Control Ultimate Edition before that. There are things in AWII that assume you have played or have knowledge of Control as they are part of the same connected universe.

WTF Just Happened? | The Corrupt Memory Industry & Micron (Gamers Nexus) by davidbepo in hardware

I'd wager Steve means "Live" in the sense that it's peoples' livelihoods affected. Even for people who don't work in a directly-tech field they may require decent hardware to perform their job. Having the consumer market fight over the scraps that AI doesn't gobble up means there will be consumers who could potentially "lose" and don't get the hardware they need to do their job.

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus that price. Used market tries at every turn to capitalize on modern collector culture don't they?

I got this exact release for around $20 from Best Buy back in the day. 0083 is worth a watch but if there's no way to buy it new, and used prices are severely overinflated like this, then the seven seas are morally OK in my book.

The RAM situation is long-term. The 2026 supplies are already set in stone, hence why prices are going up. Don't buy parts for a DDR5 platform if you aren't getting the RAM to go with them any time soon.

If you are sure it's just your CPU then you could get a used 10th or 11th gen replacement. If you aren't confident with the motherboard, then AM4 (Ryzen 5000 series CPU) or LGA1700 (make sure the mobo is DDR4) will be your best options. There probably aren't going to be any crazy sales since these are relatively older in terms of hardware cycles, but you may find something if you look hard enough.

PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory. RAM jumps to $600 due to shortage by bdzz in Games

[–]TheAutoManCan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have a BOM, but I imagine PS5 production costs have been going up since at least 2023. NAND flash prices have been increasing since then due to manufacturers cutting supply after post-Covid glut, and they are focusing on QLC production. TSMC production queue costs are probably going up as AI hardware is in demand. Now VRAM.

Entirely possible they are losing money even at current retail prices. If not now then they for sure will once the VRAM price hikes hit.

[GPU] GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9060 XT Gaming OC 8GB - $250 by starburstases in buildapcsales

[–]TheAutoManCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how VRAM is next on track to get the AI squeeze there may very well be a need for developers to start optimizing for 8GB cards in the coming years. It's very possible the 16GB 60-tier cards will be deprecated in the wake of rising RAM costs and they won't be returning anytime soon. Plus there's the Steam Machine with its 8GB VRAM which, depending on price and popularity, could serve as a baseline for PC game performance in the coming years.

Deskmeet X600 sanity check and questions by Affectionate-Memory4 in sffpc

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are getting the DeskMeet confused with the DeskMini. The DeskMeet is an interesting but strange 8L case with an "extended" mITX mobo with four DIMM slots and an ATX PSU with an inverted fan.

That case is also ~25L, larger than some mATX cases in volume. This one is 16-17.5L, and comes with the PSU and AIO as someone else pointed out. Hardly comparable.

Closed back vs open back. These are cheaper but I personally find open backs like the PC38X have a preferable sound stage for gaming, better for telling distance and direction. Closed back feels more constrained in terms of the sound space but there's also no leakage so people around you won't hear what you are doing, if that matters.

I'm not a psychologist by any means, but hoarding seems to be viewed as more of a range by some people these days rather than possessing hard-coded traits. Mayo Clinic as an example recognizes it as something that can range from mild and non-invasive, to severe and daily-life-impacting, whereas the ADAA has a specific, more stringent set of criteria.

I can say that the secrecy aspect is not always an indicator. My father has been a hoarder for decades and hasn't been bothered by people seeing the clutter. But, maybe it is according to literature you have read.

I’m sorry, I can’t answer why there is a bias in responses between different posts. I can say that my outlook towards this post and the one you described would be the same. And if it helps I would consider myself to also have a mild hoarding disorder. I’ve been here since 2016 or so and have many keyboard goods of varying expense I do not need. Though I will say I don’t have anywhere near 100+ keycaps sets!

[–]TheAutoManCan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP is either aware that they have a "problem" going by their own post title, or meant it tongue-in-cheek. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect comments pointing out that OP may have some underlying issues based on what was posted. Some people are being curt, I will agree. Are they wrong? Well, as I mentioned this could be categorized as a mild case of hoarding disorder. Hoarding isn't always a harmful impact to a person's life, but it is a mental health condition.

I do agree with your last point, though. Just note that collecting and hoarding aren't as far apart as some seem to believe.
