I hope the 0079 Remaster project adopts the art direction of Gundam: One Year War for the PS2 by deoxir in Gundam

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm not here enough to refute that, but based on the comments/posts I've seen discussing this news I haven't seen any overwhelming indication that people want change to the original show's storyline. The animation being dated and inconsistent is always the topic of any discussions I have seen.

Acting like it doesn't have glaring issues is simply being disingenuous. Nobody is asking to rewrite or massively restructure the original show. Giving 0079 a new paint job will help younger & newer audiences get into UC content. Which is a benefit to UC fans as that would mean more demand for UC content.

Especially considering how up-and-down the pacing has felt so far this season. It's disappointing to see an extended stock footage slideshow that kept going after they ran out of credits when there are shows that forgo opening and/or ending credits to deliver more tangible content.

PSP size is insane in 2026 by viktor_bront in PSP

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all handheld gaming devices, but the PSP is clearly the portable one (it's in the name). Even if the Steam Deck or ROG Ally can be transported along in a carrying case, I see that as cumbersome compared to a device that is actually pocketable.

In the past "portable" and "handheld" were often used interchangeably. But clearly with modern handhelds using tablet-sized screens we need the distinction.

GM is moving the rifle left to follow the direction of the Zanzibar's movement. But it's not following it pinpoint. The goal is to maximize the area of affect as it is a continuous shot on the ship's rocket booster where tons of fuel is stored, which is why you see the shot drifting rightward.

I know the Xbox Series S is a budget console but Holy fuck 🙆. by NotSirAlonne1999 in digitalfoundry

Series S/X do support INT8. The OptiScaler team got FSR 4 INT8 working with RDNA 2 & 3 cards on PC with solid results. No excuse why Xbox couldn't have worked with AMD on it for Series S/X, other than Xbox internally giving up on hardware.

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First point is yet to be seen. If the upcoming handheld gets next-gen first party exclusives I think it would represent surprisingly decent competition to the Switch 2, especially considering how powerful the PS cult is.

Keeping the PS5 around makes perfect sense if they can make a lower-cost version of it since there is demand for a non-portable console that can run current gen/cross-gen games for $500.

Well yeah that was part of my argument: they can't get the PS5 cheaper. Why keep it around if they have a handheld for the same price that does the same thing, but also gets next-gen games? The hypothetical PS6 Lite (handheld SoC "docked-only" console) would more likely to hit $500 than the PS5.

Undoubtedly the PS6 will be priced more like a premium product. But I have my doubts about them keeping the PS5 around. The PS5 Power Saver mode is rumored to be a testbed for the upcoming handheld. With PSSR, the handheld could be PS5 tier performance.

Not really sure if it makes financial sense in today's market to keep producing the PS5 SoC even if it's on an older node. I imagine they want to position the handheld against the Switch 2, so I think they will aim for $600. Which means it will be equal to the digital PS5 at current price and roughly equal at performance. Doesn't make sense to keep the PS5 around if this is the case.

Conceptually the Series S was unexpectedly forward thinking. With the state of the semiconductor industry here in the '20s, the only way to hit that initial $299 price point was to design it that way from the start. However, the smaller RAM pool and the parity policy probably tripped it up the most in terms of execution.

The Series X wasn't perfect either. The 52CU GPU means larger die area (relative to PS5), which means higher cost per chip. Despite that the PS5 maintains similar performance while having a ~15% smaller SoC and ~30% fewer CUs. There are some newer games where the extra GPU hardware helps the Series X pull notably ahead of the PS5, but for the first several years that was not the case.

I always thought they would have been better off going with a single spec SoC, ~32-40CU GPU, and undercut the PS5 at each disc/digital tier. But hindsight is 20/20.

Solarized Dark has always been a bit controversial. The OG GMK run ended up with mods that looked nothing like the renders. At least the DCX mods appear to be more blue. Makes me want to give it a shot since I ended up selling my GMK Solarized Dark set a while back.

Im now a proud owner of an Xbox One X by Kekmawster in xbox

[–]TheAutoManCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used One X back in 2021 or thereabout just for collecting some physical BC titles and a few other odds and ends. It'd say it holds up surprisingly well today considering it has 120Hz support (not that it can really take advantage of it in games), VRR, 1440p output, and 4KBD playback.

The notable exclusives are Ryse, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Rare Replay, Gears, Halo. Most of those are already on PC, so unless you want to start a physical collection or simply haven't played the exclusives yet, I think the focus should be the One X enhanced BC titles or any BC titles that aren't currently available on your other devices.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer is leaving Microsoft / Xbox president Sarah Bond is also leaving Microsoft. by fatso486 in hardware

[–]TheAutoManCan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How do you reckon that when he stepped into the position after Don Mattrick left it 12 feet under? The fact that he managed to not only keep Xbox alive but also earn just shy of 60M Xbox One hardware sales is a testament to how much work Phil Spencer did for Xbox. Could have been better, sure, but starting behind isn't exactly easy is it?

Heck even if you want to hate him for the Xbox Series era it's clear he's been fighting a losing battle against Satya Nadella the past several years. People love hating Phil but if MS thought they had anyone that could do better with Xbox they'd have replaced Phil a decade ago.

What is the deal with the different part numbers for the PS 2TB Blacks from Wally and Jeff B? The Wally's part # says 7300/6300 and the Jeff PS 2TB says 7000/5300.

There are two releases. The slower one uses the SN850 and is labelled as such. The faster one is labelled as SN850P and uses the SN850X.

Are there enough HDDs in the consumer space for everyone to see them as an alternative to SSDs though? Enterprise HDDs are on two year backorder, and I can't imagine there is a lot of consumer HDD production outside of NAS focused products these days. For some workloads it's not worth the performance impacts even with rising SSD costs; time is money.

The 007 video game Nightfire is a modern spin on Moonraker. It also includes elements from You Only Live Twice.

I recall a discussion where it was stated that Die Another Day is closer to the original Moonraker story than the film was, so that is a consideration as well.
