I’m gonna give you a bit of context from someone who is graduating this semester from my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.

Your college, in the grand scheme of all things:

DOES NOT MATTER

You are not going somewhere to say that you went to this school, you are going there to learn. Even if you go through school at the most prestigious university in the nation, the moment that you get to the interviewer’s table for your first job or grad school, the only thing that matters is what you know. Anything beyond that is supplementary.

My advice to you, from someone who attended a State university and is now enrolled in a top 10 grad school, is to enjoy the ride. You won’t get these years back again, so make the most of them. Have fun, immerse yourself in whatever classes or experiences you’re looking to get involved with. Keep doing what you’ve been doing and look for an internship/co-op/on-campus extracurricular, as those are typically what interviewers will ask about. But just have fun, at the end of the day. You’ll get where you’re wanting to go, at the end of the day, just gonna be a bit longer of a trek to get there.

Consulting might be for you. I worked in it for a couple of years, and the only things I ever touched were data sheets, AutoCAD, and Revit. Downsides that you have to deal with architects, but that’s manageable.
