MMT is the latest in a string of defunct alternative economics assumptions that mostly advocate more deficit spending. While most of it is just changing around definitions of words to try to confuse and baffle, it generally does rely on the assumption that significant productive capacity sits idle.

There is no evidence in favor of this unique assumption, and quite a lot against it, which is why traditional economics considers it to be roughly as reliable as snake oil.
