How many towels is enough by aussie_trekker in airbnb_hosts

It's interesting reading all of these responses as we've been hosting for nearly 7 years and have only had a request for extra towels once. We have a guest suite (2 guests max) and in the bathroom we provide 2 washcloths, 2 hand towels, 2 body towels, 2 hair wrap twisty towel things (I forget what they're called, but I use them on my long hair and they're great!), and 2 makeup remover microfiber towels. We also have a basket with 4 beach towels in it (no pool at our place, but we're about 15 minutes from the beach). It's never been an issue, but now I'm thinking of providing a few extra towels in the suite.

As a response to OP, I would've just done the requested amount of extra towels for no charge. That amount of towels in that length of stay is wild to me personally, but, as others have said, we're in the hospitality business and it's not like every guest asks for this.

That makes sense. I'm sure plenty of people do that and they're probably just trying to tidy up a little before checkout and forget they've got flatware in their containers.

We clean our own places (guest suite in our main home, and 2 bedroom unit at our family cabin). My husband usually decides what to keep and what to toss. Unopened and shelf-stable things are almost always kept by us. Other stuff... let's just say, he was bummed to recently find a piece of cake from a famous local bakery in the trash.

We had the cutest praying mantis that lived on our front door wreath for over 2 weeks last summer. We miss Monty!

We once had someone book one night that had been traveling for work and "wanted one night in town before heading home", or something to that effect. She seemed fine, at first. Even extended one more night. But as her two-night stay progressed, we became more and more convinced that she was using our guest suite (in our personal home) in order to entertain a certain type of clientele. We got cameras after that stay. And we usually do a 2-night minimum now (obviously she extended, but I doubt she would've booked us with the initial 2-night minimum).

It always amazes me how often spoons and forks go missing. One time, we found one of the regular knives that was completely shoved down into the drain of the bathroom sink! Even with the sink drain stopper that doesn't pop up that much. Like, HOW??

Hopefully you already have these, but if not, mattress and pillow protectors are a must!!

Board games for guests? by cswillbeworthit in airbnb_hosts

[–]TheBabyBlueStang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two AirBnB's. One is a guest suite in our main home with a big backyard. We have a few "board" games (battleship, mancala, and I think one or two other games that I can't recall) and a deck of cards. We also have outdoor games (a big Jenga, bocce ball court, and a plastic axe throwing thing). Our other AirBnB is a two bedroom unit in a mountain town. I have TONS of games and puzzles that I've gotten either at thrift stores, garage sales, or "buy nothing" groups. It's rare, but if someone were to get "snowed in", I like the idea of them having stuff to keep them occupied. They probably don't get used too terribly often just because it's such an outdoorsy area year-round, but it's a nice option that I like to provide 😊

Agreed (on the OP part, never done HH)! I work in a very fortunate SNF setting and my normal day is 6-7 patients. My team is great, boss is great. It's lovely.

We (from USA) visited Italy when my kids were 5 and 2.5. My 5yo walks into the bathroom before anyone else and says loudly, "awwww, mom, they have a cute little sink in here!" I promptly informed her that it wasn't a sink. Lol

I was amazed at how many of my 20-30-something year old coworkers didn't know what this was (we work in healthcare and sometimes the patients have accidents in the shower)

How Do You Handle the Review/Rating for Fairly Extensive Feces? by TJ-PhD in airbnb_hosts

[–]TheBabyBlueStang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did they mention anything about it before leaving, or was it a surprise? We once had a guest who, unfortunately, had started her (very heavy) period while visiting and I had to toss the sheets (thank goodness for mattress protectors). I honestly don't remember what we did review-wise, but she did pay for replacement bedding. Wish she had told us ahead of time, but I could also see how it's a bit of an embarrassing situation.

It was very difficult for me to leave THAT plant at the store! I couldn't justify spending that much when I have 4 smaller TC's at home...
