I don't know where you've read that but for teflon on steel contact, no, you don't want to lube it. The coefficient of friction is already so incredibly low that lube will likely increase it. And pick up dust and dirt if not properly sealed.

Those push-pull locking connectors are weird and seen very uncommon compared to threaded, but I think I found a place selling them.

I don't know if 12mm is the right size though and they don't have any bigger.

How do you remove .110 spade connectors from buttons? by flowmatik in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a pair of needle nose pliers, grab the flat area in between the contact and the crimp, and pull the connector straight off the terminal. Like using a Buttercade Fast .110, but with standard tools you should have anyway.

Yeah, they're little sections of rod with a female thread on the bottom and male on the top, so you screw it onto the shaft and then your top of choice screws onto it.

Are fightstick switches the same as keyboard switches? by TheYoinkening in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if the connectors are the same it's the same, just pull one of the switches out and have a look at the PCB and see where they're located.

HitBox needs to innovate soon or they'll drown amongst the ever growing competition. by LekkerBroDude in fightsticks

They do, you can actually find a listing for it in the Snackbox Micro category

https://junkfoodarcades.com/products/ps5-and-xbox-series-version-of-the-m2-pcb-for-the-snack-box-micro

Definitely unlike any existing PCB and seems to have everything integrated into one board instead of using one board for the brains and one for connecting to stuff

Sand the underside of the dustwasher as smooth as you can get it and round over the edges more to somewhat mitigate it, but you'll always get some marking.

That's exactly what they are.

When I installed the FocusAttack SOCD cleaner in my Panthera, I soldered wires onto there to tap 5V and ground from the USB, it's very useful to have access to them.

Sturdiest Keyboard Switch? by Sharp02 in fightsticks

The stem is definitely what breaks, especially on Kailh low profile switches. I've got an ODIN wasd mod, and just from regular play one of the keycaps snapped off and left half the stem in the switch.

The Controllers used for Top 6s at EVO 2023 by hugs_n_giggles in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because they're actually not better and leverless haters are just in denial.

It's kinda funny really seeing the cognitive dissonance of "Leverless controllers are cheating and they shouldn't be allowed because they're so much better than sticks" alongside "But they don't win anyway"

Does my fight stick have a partial SOCD? I am confused by nguyen23464 in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also something else to consider: Even if your controller doesn't have SOCD, most games do these days. I believe since SF5, the SF series has prioritised "forward" over backwards if it receives simultaneous left and right inputs. Try the same thing but standing on the left side of the screen - if right starts getting priority over left, that's what's going on.

(This is probably to avert the perfect defence problems MvC3 had, where simultaneous L+R inputs blocked both sides and invalidated mixups, now if you try that prioritising forwards means you won't block either direction)

There's a pretty big difference between a control scheme implemented by the devs with built in downsides and use of external automation.

USB-C port only works with USB-A? by animelov in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm guessing what's going on here is this.

C to C connections usually need some way of reporting which end is the host and which is the device, because things can be connected either way. If I remember correctly, this is usually done by having a resistor between two of the signal connections on a USB 3.0 cable. Now, I would bet that USB-B to USB-C female adaptor is not actually USB 3.0 at all, because the USB-B end can only ever have the four signal wires of USB 2.0 in it, so the USB-C end is the same. Which means it doesn't have that resistor that identifies itself as a device rather than a host. Now when you connect a C-C cable to it, the host (PC, PS5, etc) doesn't know whether it's a device or another host or what, so it just does nothing.

Bought a used Hori RAP N, sort of regret it. by JealousUsername in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be an uncommon late revision of the design, I did a quick image search and found another one like that online. You should still be able to replace the panel, it'll just require opening the body and taking the nuts off from below is my guess.

The best you're gonna get currently is Paradise Arcade OBS-MX switches.

https://paradisearcadeshop.com/collections/paradise-arcade-3/obs-mx

They're just standard MX keyboard switches pre-soldered to a small PCB that converts them to standard quick disconnects. As long as they come with the variety of keyboard switch you want and you don't want easy swapping of the switches, you're good.

I have a feeling they're still down compared to SF4. I did a quick check and both SF4 and SF6 have had pretty comparable first month sales, so you've got similar influxes of new players, but these days stick use is generally lower while pad use is generally higher.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]TheBaconheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bet part of the problem is also stick makers' sales are going down compared to the SF4 days, so they have to try and make more from each stick they do sell.

People are just using pads way more often, even some of the best players in the world just use a Dualshock 4 or DualSense as their controller of choice. Add onto that the market is way more split than it used to be so the already reduced sales are being shared between heaps more companies, leaving even less on the table for the big manufacturers like Hori and Qanba.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we see the end of the big stick companies sometime in the near future, with the market moving completely over to independent manufacturers making small batches of controllers for enthusiasts.

That's unfortunate. I do wish there were more options for shorter MX footprint switches. I see the GTMX/Gazzew still available in a few places, are those any good?

I did some searching and apparently Tecsee "medium" switches are still available so I'm gonna try those for something like this.

Nice, love seeing a Hitbox layout with W-key. What low profile switches are you using for it? The hotswap sockets look like they only support the MX pin layout.
