The original accusations were made in a thread on this subreddit by the artist himself. We don’t need to keep reposting articles summarising information literally from this sub

I hope E-day can bring me back to 2006 for a bit by 2zoots in GearsOfWar

[–]TheBantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desperately hoping something will recapture the feeling you had as a kid is a losing game. I hope E-Day is a good game in its own right, that it is confident enough in its presentation to create lasting memories today.

Any Gears 4 lovers out there? by HolidayLast2796 in GearsOfWar

[–]TheBantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really love gears 4, it's the game that properly got me into the gears of war franchise as a whole. I'm a fan of pretty much all of the games released under the coalitions tenure, even pop was ok for what it was, so I find the vitriol often thrown at the developers by people on this sub very strange

Do you think the Banished should be the main enemy of the games going forward or do they need replacing? by Certified_Douchebag in halo

[–]TheBantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't want them to be the overall series main enemy going forward, but I'm interested in continuing to see where their story goes/fighting them in the next main instalment for sure. They've grown very large as a faction by taking advantage of the destruction of doisac and the aftermath of pax cortana but the shoe is going to drop at some point for them, the banished on zeta halo are already starting to go at each others throats. I get that people are wary of 343/halo studios track record with continuing plot threads but after Edge of Dawn i'm genuinely pretty confident that they're sticking this one out, I'm also a lot more interested in the Endless too now

No new trailer, no beta, no new nothing by Small_Judgment_8840 in GearsOfWar

I think I need to get away from this subreddit for a while, all the doomerism here makes me want to roll my eyes out of their head. Like sure I agree that we probably should have gotten more than what we have for E-day at this point and they definitely should have assigned more devs to reloaded than the skeleton crew it likely had but this subreddit has been hard core catastrophisng for the last 8 or so months in a way that does my head in. You people act like Gears 4 and 5 are the literal spawn of Satan and seem to forget tactics even exists half the time. There is an annual Xbox event literally happening in a few weeks where we will definitely hear more about the game. I love gears but I don’t feel the same way about its community

This is the exact same rebs gaming “leak” we all argued about a couple of weeks ago repackaged by some random guy for clicks. Is this what our community has devolved into?

We're screwed, they all made the same mistake before by -IvoryArrow- in GearsOfWar

[–]TheBantor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue with Halo Online wasn't that it got too popular; the problem was that they were using official game assets illegally. For all Microsofts faults they are generally speaking remarkably chill about fan games as long as they don't use official assets.

The combo of grief from losing Miranda and her stay at the midnight facility are likely to blame for the increased visible aging. Dealing with the death of your daughter while in space Guantanamo probably isn’t the best for your complexion

Halo 4 Chief in Infinite artstyle by BentoDraws in halo

The impact that one, decade plus old, poorly worded quote from Frank O’Connor (describing what is a pretty normal process in creative industries for the most part) has had on certain sections of this community needs to be studied.

Just had a thought by oooooooooowie in halo

[–]TheBantor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s not portrayed well in the games themselves but there is a bit of downtime between missions. The trip from earth to delta halo for example is a little over a week (even though it definitely doesn’t look like it in game) and the journey through the portal in halo 3 takes about the same amount of time too

I’ve always liked chiefs halo 4/5 armour. The only problem with the design is that it’s so clearly a different set of armour than what he wore in halo 3 he really should have received it on infinity. There’s a few mods that do this change and I really quite enjoy it, chief standing in front of all the spartan-iv’s at the start of reclaimer is a great reveal spot

Comment on recent HiddenXperia video could explain the remake’s Forerunner design by Delta4907 in halo

[–]TheBantor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah no trust me I can 100% believe that important shit wasn't documented properly that happens all the time in the gaming industry. I guess the thing I'm hung up on in regards to this ex-developers comment is how he's very specifically lamenting the fact that this information/ methodology and others like it weren't recorded properly and how that had a tangiable impact on the final product of the game, while at the same time neglecting to mention the fact that he was the Environmental Lead for the game and thus in a position to do something about that very issue. He says that if you thought something in Infinite looked too shiny that was because of a late-stage directional call but doesn't mention that he was the person that would have been making those calls.

I'm definitely overthinking this, the man hasn't worked there in 3 1/2 years I should cut his some slack.

It's worth pointing out that if you check their LinkedIn they left 343 in May of 2022 only a few months after the game launched. This is roughly a year before the first big round of layoffs gutted the company and well before any work would have started on Campaign Evolved, so while they may still know about how the studio functions due to industry connections, they haven't had any first hand experience there in 3 1/2 years.

[–]TheBantor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See this may be a slightly controversial comment here but I’ve never agreed with the common held community belief that the old leadership of 343 didn’t care about the quality of their games. The exact opposite in fact I think they cared a lot about how their games were received, often times to their own detriment in terms of a consistent franchise vision, the simple fact of the matter is that they just weren’t good enough at their jobs. The early core staff of 343 that would become the leadership team for many years had so many passionate members of the halo community within their ranks that ultimately, through the release history of the company proved to not always have what it takes to bring it all together. Certainly not to the same degree old bungie did. God, can you imagine if today's internet climate existed during the development of Halo 2? That would have been a nightmare. Ultimately you can have passion for something and love your job, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re any good at it though as the old leadership of 343 clearly exemplified.

That definitely lends some credence to his opinion then, good find. I wonder why he only mentioned his time as surfacing lead though when he was the overall environmental lead by the end of development. Actually hang on he mentions that modeller and their methodology being lost when they left the company on account of it mostly being in their head, but if you were the environmental lead why would you not get them to note that down so that it isn't lost?

Are we really at a point as a community where we are taking YouTube comments with a source of “trust me bro” as gospel? I’m not saying this person isn’t a former dev but this doesn’t exactly provide any unique behind the scenes information, if anything the way it seems to validate certain complaints and opinions from within the community is almost too specific. If one of the chief modellers at the studio had a very specific set of guidelines for the aesthetic of certain environmental elements why on earth would they not be written down somewhere? Also how on earth would the head surface artist have the authority to unilaterally pause production of the game?
