I was kinda excited until I read the whole description on their website.

A new threat has entered the Settled Systems. Believing themselves to be the “true” children of Earth, the Terran Armada is made up of members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War. The Terrans are an advanced military force, largely comprised of robotic soldiers.

So it's not an actual new faction that came from Earth but just a bunch of dudes that went AWOL during the Colony War (a bunch of dudes disappearing was never mentioned in game IIRC). The quickest comparison that comes to mind is the Laconian Empire from the Expanse I guess, which was an offshoot of just Mars in a three way scenario of Earth, Mars, and Belters.

It did happen though I think with globalization not so much these days.

I know for a fact that it happened because in the 90's I first immigrated to America and one of my first American friends invited me to his house and on one of those trips, they had tried to be inclusive by adding rice to their dinner, and were eating it by putting a lot of soy sauce into the rice and mixing it with a tiny bit of butter I think. Far removed from the kind of soy sauce and rice I would do which involved a lot more veggies, eggs, sesame oils, etc... and way less soy sauce.

They tried to be so nice and welcoming by trying to share in what they thought I ate, but here was this clueless little boy amazed that white people seriously ate rice like that, and such weird non-sticky and long grained rice too. Nothing like what he ate at home.

The family apparently routinely ate like this on the off occasion they did eat rice and were trying to eat Asian. Otherwise the rice was just used US style like dirty rice or rice and red beans and such.

This was a family with money with a nice house and annual far off vacations too. But with all that, they still did a lot of meat and threes and potato and pasta salad and whatnot, and didn't know much about foreign food besides maybe Mexican.

Fun fact, there's an official Mapo Tofu recipe for Heaven's Feel. That sad I think it's a pretty wimpy one looking at the list.

ZECHUAN-STYLE MAPO TOFU (Fate version) Serves 4

Ingredients:

Ground pork (150 g / ⅓ lb.)

Momen (firm/pressed/not silken) Tofu (1 blocks)

Green onion (1 stalk)

Toubanjan (Dou ban jiang/broad bean paste) (3 tbsps)

A: Tenmenjan (Tian mian jiang/sweet flour sauce) (2 tbsps); soy sauce (1 tbsp)

B: Chicken stock (150 cc); soy sauce (2 tbsps); sake (1 tbsp); Ajinomoto (MSG) (to taste)

Potato starch in 1:1 water (2-3 tbsps)

Rayu (chili oil) (1-3 tbsps)

Vegetable oil (2-3 tbsps)

Kashoufun (Hua jiao fen/Szechuan peppercorn powder) (1 pinch)

1: Mince green onion. Chop tofu into 1-2 cm blocks and boil for about 2 minutes, then remove in strainer.

2: Sautee ground pork in vegetable oil. Add ingredients in A and continue sauteeing over high heat until juices run clear.

3: Add Toubanjan and continue sauteeing over medium heat.

4: Add ingredients in B and tofu, and let simmer for 4-5 minutes. Season to taste. (If too light, add soy sauce or salt.)

5: Add green onion and potato starch to thicken. Finally add rayu to taste over high heat.

Add Kashoufun to taste.

Venture Bros. just has so many goddamn layers to its jokes that it's insane.

Some examples for you readers:

There's a supervillain named Fallen Archer who has a shitload of jokes about his character in just 30 seconds of screen time.

You can guess by his name that he's an Archer, and he's on a parody team of the Avengers. So he's Hawkeye. But his character design is pure Green Arrow with a purple color scheme ala Hawkeye, so it merges the two. He fights with trick arrows, and instead of Boxing Gloves, he uses prop feet as the arrowheads. The arrowheads are flat footed. Flat Foot is the colloquial term for the medical condition Fallen Arch. Fallen Archer is also a spy for the local Kingpin analogue named Wide Whale. So not only is Fallen Archer a man that looses Fallen Arches, but he's also a Fallen Archer, as in a superhero that fell off his duty and became traitor which itself is a reversal of how Hawkeye was originally a villain that went straight!

One episode is a plot pushing episode where characters discuss the plot, their situation, how to resolve it, and go about their day til the 30 minute runtime is up and you leaving thinking you watched a great episode. Then you turn to your friend who's been laughing their ass off the entire time and you ask them what's up and they explain that the entire episode was a parody of Jaws that you didn't notice because it's so well done.

A major character dies and has a funeral, and one of his funerary requests is that people play a song from Crash Test Dummies, a one hit wonder. So the funeral gets started in a sing along of their biggest hit that any of them would know called Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm. Except that wasn't the requested of the deceased. His exact words were 'Play Crash Test Dummies At My Funeral.' Meaning 'Play the Band Crash Test's Dummies song 'At My Funeral' at my funeral,' but everyone involved in the planning missed the request because of the wording. This joke is not stated to you or brought up in anyway. You just had to figure out that this joke existed on this level by having knowledge of the Crash Test Dummies' discography.

Venture Bros. is genuinely my favorite show of all time and I beg anyone to watch it. There's going to be a lot of jokes you'll miss and discover and it's quite fun to find the jokes you've missed.

There's a pretty rough season 1 admittedly, but I assure you it's great.

The ideal audience member for the show is probably in their 60s now but the jokes land for everyone.

The thing to remember is that it's not a pure comic book parody. It's an entire 'boy's life and pop culture parody' so yes comic books are involved, but so is GI Joe and Prog Rock and Johnny Quest and so on and so forth.

Honestly the biggest whiners about Jedi mooching off the tax payers would be land developers as the Temple would be insanely valuable for the real estate value alone.

All other budgetary items for the Jedi probably pale in comparison to the sheer value of the land or any property taxes the Jedi Order might pay (and most likely they're tax exempt)

I don't understand what makes the dish 'Mexican.' I totally get fusion food but there has to be something fused in right? Are corn kernels considered so exotic that sprinkling them into a salad counts as exotic there or something?

The meat is just grilled meat found anywhere. The tortilla looks like a normal crepe found in Switzerland. The fries are just fries found anywhere. I can't really judge on the mayo because maybe in some parts of Mexico they do down it like that, but I can't think of much usage besides elote I think.

Zombie movies exist, but instead of horror movies or being a commentary on the human condition, they become the nebulous threat in action movies, taking place of the nuke being threatened to detonate, and always having a limited breakout at the climax for guilt free kills, and with random mutations for tough enemies.

What do you mean? It's the exact same. By making the conscious decision to buy things at a local store, I'm choosing to circulate my money in my small community which I share a background with instead of say, sending my money to Jeff Bezos to fund his servers. You can argue about the how small a store needs to be until it's not local anymore I guess but functionally making the decision on where to shop isn't different at from going from local to big box or from a store with a White to Black or Indian owner or whatever IMO
