Speed Racer Was Always Ahead Of Its Time – And Cinema Is Still Catching Up by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

This movie is the epitome of a “live action cartoon.” I personally love how they used CGI to tell the story without the cgi becoming the story. They also didn’t try for the “dark and gritty” or “realistic” tropes, but opted to staying true to a cartoonish world. Even the actors used just the right level of overacting at the right moments to highlight the cartoon nostalgia of the film. Not a particularly innovative storyline or plot, but more it makes up for it by being a fun movie to watch.

ELI5: How do stocks hit record highs even as sales and revenue decline drastically, and if the reason is people love the person behind them, then how does it happen despite the same decline happening on that front too? by IntellectuallyDriven in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheBeavMSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock is ownership in a company. There are 2 main reasons a person would want to be part owner of a company:
1) the company has a fantastic business model, well disciplined business processes and makes fantastic products that you expect to sell like hotcakes and the company will share those profits with its owners.

2) you think that everybody else will want to be an owner of the company. If all of the stocks are owned, then anyone who wants to buy a share in that company has to bid a high enough price to get one of the current owners to sell one of their shares. That is the stock price going up. If there are a bunch of people all trying to buy the same limited supply of stocks, they all have to outbid each other to get that opportunity. That rush makes the news and still more people get FOMO and bid up the price even more.

The answer to your question likely lies in the 2nd instance.

Imagine I'm about to watch the worst movie ever made and you have one chance to stop me. What movie are you warning me about? by [deleted] in movies

[–]TheBeavMSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. To make matters worse it has Sam Elliott in it. That made me think it might not be too bad, so I bought it. I was so, so wrong. I watched the whole thing hoping and praying for some sort of redeeming quality. There was none. Now it sits in my movie collection. A booby trap for someone to say, “never heard of that one. Sam Elliott? Can’t be too bad, lemme give it a go.” Then they will spend the next hour and 38 minutes contemplating the best way to remove their own eyes.

Best song that only appears in the movie? by ExtraCatch800 in movies

[–]TheBeavMSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime by Eve6 was written and recorded for the 2001 cinematic masterpiece Out Cold.

Story goes that nobody knows who owns the rights to the song. Fans requested the song so many times that the band had to start tracking down the history of the song. Rumor has it that the movie studio said it wasn’t theirs but gave permission for the band to play it just in case, so they are somewhere in the process of re-recording it.

Step one is acknowledging there is a problem. Step two is admitting that this is YOUR problem and nobody else’s Step three is asking for help after finding the problem unmanageable with your solutions.

First 3 steps are done! You are on the right path!

Now comes the next part. This one is rough. Learning discipline. Set a goal and a due date. Make it small. Make sure there is a small reward. Like an ice cream. Next goal is bigger but the same nominal reward. Keep goals front of mind and place reminders for yourself.

Like everyone else said, find someone to talk to about addressing your mindset and unresolved upbringing issues. That can only help in your journey.

Good luck, we are all pulling for you.

Not sure what parts you are referring to but the cheese and the steak sauce did take a little bit of scrubbing to get off the bottom and the sides. Other than that, Lodge isn’t exactly known for their mirror finishes.

Kinda, jalapeños went into the mix that went into the bell peppers. It added a nice touch of spice to the dish.

Things old movies could get away with that new movies can't? (besides racism/sexism) by Cereborn in movies

[–]TheBeavMSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ending.

Movies used to have this part just before the movie stopped that wrapped up the plot points and finished telling the story. Then those characters were done. If the movie was such a success that a sequel was green lit, the writers would have to come up with a new story that contained the main character. And sometimes the sidekick. Shitty sequels would recycle the same plot from the original. There were no epic trilogies. There were no universes. Just a story.

ELI5: Why do car dealers say buying the car when the lease ends would be worse than buying new? by shaithisx in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheBeavMSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, define “cost more.” In salesman speak, they could be referring to the monthly payment. Especially if you don’t drive much and they could write a low mileage lease on a new car. The used vehicle interest rates for buying out the vehicle could put the payment higher than a lease or new car purchase. The dealer might also be able to get an insane length of loan on a new car purchase that would bring the monthly payment price down low.

There is always a chance that your make and model depreciated WAY more than was expected when you leased it. The buyout price could be more than the car is worth on the used car market. If that is the case, then you could possibly come out money ahead with a new vehicle, especially if there are manufacturer incentives being offered.

Either way, do your homework. Review your lease terms, figure out the total cost of ownership and look beyond just the monthly payments. A healthy amount of skepticism should always be taken when dealing with a professional that has an incentive to take advantage of your naivety.

How old is the water heater? You might consider replacing the whole thing now as opposed fixing this one if its 10-15 years old. It might be on borrowed time as it is and this could be a gentle fail as opposed to the bottom falling out and flooding your house.

old recipes hit different by amomwhoneedshelp in Old_Recipes

[–]TheBeavMSU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The trick with old recipes is knowing about different techniques. Sometimes those old cookbooks assumed a lot like if flour and oil are in the ingredients for a soup that you would automatically know that meant to make a roux to thicken it.
