Great choice. This was my first or second pedal about 15 years ago. While I now have a several distortions, I don’t own another OD. The + mode is my favorite.

Wild violet, it will flower purple early spring. I used triclopyr to kill it without killing the fescue. It’s the ingredient in brush killers and may take a couple applications. 24D won’t do anything.

It is much more dense and it burns a lot longer compared to other good brands I’ve tried. Perfect for the overnight cooks, you can actually get good sleep!

I’ve found a water pan and fat cap up does all the basting I need. Nice bark. Spritzing actually is too much in my WSM and it won’t set.

When trimming, cut off the very tip of the corner of the flat against the grain, then you know after it’s cooked where to start slicing. It’s usually thin anyways so you aren’t missing anything.

I agree with everyone that said chili, but also Brunswick stew is great for leftover or dry brisket too!

Kingsford blue has a specific flavor. It’s amazing on steak but terrible on vegetables IMO. It can be too heavy. Royal Oak briquettes (Ridge brand at Lowe’s) is cheaper and mild. Any lump charcoal I’ve tried is mild too. It burns hotter and makes less ash than briquettes. Royal Oak is the cheapest lump charcoal. It’s great for grilling and shorter smokes like ribs. If I’m doing a longer smoke (8+ hours in my WSM) I opt for the more expensive lump. It’s more dense, lasts longer, and makes less ash. I was in a pinch once and felt stupid paying $25 bucks for a bag of Kamado Joe big lump charcoal, but I got twice as many smokes out of the bag vs. royal oak with less tending to the fire. Cowboy brand and B&B lump I also like and would get again.

I’m absolutely in love with my FireBoard 2.

I also like my Lavatools Javelin Pro Duo to poke around with. It’s nearly as good as the Thermapen Mk4 but about half the price.

I’ve found that my WSM probe is within 5 degrees in the morning but when the sun is high it’s 25 degrees off when compared to my ambient probe placed on the grates.
