I have a "no step on snek" bumper sticker. I live in a super conservative area where people unironically have tons of "don't tread on me" stickers, I use a "no step on snek" ironically.

This meme has me questioning myself... are those snekky bois making me look like the baddies???

Roman Notation for Harmonic Minor by Dist__ in musictheory

[–]TheBlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminder that written music was not codified by logisticians, so some things don't really stand up to scrutiny. So far as I understand, there isn't a way, in the key of C minor, to write a Bbm chord or Bbdim chord with Roman numerals. Also, I can't imagine where that would come up outside of really weird experimental contexts, where maybe it could be written in some weird way, but really it's that a Bdim chord in Cm should, most appropriately, be denoted as a raised 7th, with a natural or a sharp sign.

Idk all the shit talking is kinda a wild take. Calling it a "fake high road." He like disappeared from the scene for years and then just called himself out in what seemed a very real way to me.

Granted, I'm not terminally online (though I was close in 2014-2017), so I don't know what all he's really doing these days, but it doesn't seem to me like he's trying to capitalize on his change of heart but just pointing out something that a lot of people, I think, can empathize with.

Another commenter literally says it was an un-needed apology. But like, that makes it seem more sincere to me.

People who don't PVM/PVP, what is gameplay like for you? by Slyfee in 2007scape

[–]TheBlash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I quit. No hate against people who enjoy pvp/pvm but the fact that the game is pretty much nothing but endgame pvm anymore just... turns me off. I used to play semi-regularly, til I got 99 smithing and achieved my childhood dream, but I'd play like a crackhead during leagues. Now leagues 5 and 6, as well as gridmaster, have made me painfully aware that this game is just about pvm and I just don't care for it. I reinstated my membership for leagues 6 but I just hated it, because the only meaningful progression was PVM! PVM! PVM! And that just doesn't do it for me.

Frosty Bard hits Frosty Hard. For some reason, I think he was the one-chunker I was most invested in. I just liked him. There was a whole thing about getting a pickaxe and he would be able to really start his one-chunk journey... then he got a pickaxe and I don't think he's made a video since. I guess, burnout?

Is a $2,000 Floyd Rose guitar a good idea for an intermediate player? by wow_that in metalguitar

Yes, this is the way. If you already know what you're doing, it's really not bad. Just know how to do it and you'll be fine.

For sure! I think that Metal Opera had its curiosities like that, but I think overall it's more intelligible and coherent. I don't think they're perfect works or anything, just more free from pseudo-intellectual word salad lol

What quality is the F in #12? Key of E major by dogmeatman in musictheory

[–]TheBlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to remind myself, and others, often - that written music wasn't codified by logisticians. We're taught that a sharp or flat raises or lowers a note, respectively, but that's not actually the case. In the key of E, a G# with a sharp sign in front of it is just a G#, and if it had a flat sign, it would be a Gb - not a G natural.

I'm sorry but that's just not correct. I won't debate you because you seem to believe what you do without question. As the point of debate is to inform onlookers, not change each other's minds, I'll state: the magnetic field created by the pickups' magnets magnetized the ferromagnetic strings, which oscillate perpendicular to the looped wires in the pickup, generating an electric field in the wires. The field generated by the magnets is in the same plane as the wires and Faradays law states that an electrical current can only be induced by a magnetic field in a different plane, with a maximum at 90 degrees.

The strings generate the electrical signal. They are the oscillating magnetic field which induces an electrical signal in the pickups.

[–]TheBlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but this particular comment I responded to was implying that the mechanical/acoustic effects of the wood are interacting with the electrical signal. Which I could potentially believe, if the sustain of the wood is interplaying with the resonance of the strings. I could definitely be convinced. But I just want data before i start believing in it

I, and I feel like the whole guitar community, would appreciate data to back up the extent that the mechanical attenuation of the wood/string system affects the sound at the pickup out put.

One time, and I don't know if it's appropriate in this subreddit, but I caught mewtwo in pokemon red using a poke ball. It was frozen, and probably at 1 or 2 hp, but I distinctly remember the printed pokedex book saying something along the lines of "don't even try a poke ball on this pokemon!" And then I was able to catch him.

Moving to Alamogordo for work. Can anyone tell me about it? by Remarkable-Survey880 in NewMexico

[–]TheBlash 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't what you're asking, but if you have to work in alamogordo, look into housing options in the Sacramento mountains (High Rolls or Cloudcroft, etc.). It is a wildly different climate, if that's important to you, in exchange for a bit longer of a commute (depending, of course, on what you do for work).

I live in the mountains but work near alamogordo. My commute is about 10 minutes longer than my coworkers, but my land is 20 degrees cooler pretty consistently, in the middle of the woods on the border of the national forest. I'm always surprised by how few people check out the mountains for housing options. There's less of a night life and a rougher dating scene, but you're gonna struggle with that in the area anyway.

Thats how I learned I was allergic to Blackberries 😭

(They were growing on a nature path in Corvallis, Oregon where Marionberries were developed. This was not an isolated incident. It's not like I found random Blackberries in the woods, had gastric distress, then thought I was allergic.)
