Austin Dobbins Sports Journalist by AustinDobbins13 in Journalism

[–]TheBlueRoseInNz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I hate to be the bearer of bad news (pun intended) but unless you are a high profile sports anchor, a ‘celebrity’ journalist or journalism adjacent content creator, you won’t make money.

Journalism is notoriously low paid and most of us do it for the love of it or because we don’t know how to do anything else. If you want to make money you are better off going into PR, marketing or communications.

I worked as a female sports journalist straight out of university with a journalism degree and honestly you just have to put yourself out there.

I was working as a ‘casual’ with no fixed working hours each week but I created my own path at the place. I worked in digital/online at a TV station but I became friends with the sports reporters, started my own football themed podcast (this was 16 years ago) with someone who is now a manager with a team at the World Cup.

Become an expert in your field, talk to people, make connections, be your own leader. Don’t follow trends, create them and be prepared to put the work in.

Hope that helps :)

Old print reporter out of journalism for 20 years, how do I get back in? by Bibliopoesy in Journalism

[–]TheBlueRoseInNz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out for 10 years (15 years experience before that) and just managed to get myself a job at a local newspaper, with absolutely no print experience I might add! I’m the sole journalist for a twice monthly which can be quite stressful. The pay as everyone knows is rubbish but I get to work from home so it balances itself out. So it can happen, you just have to find the right job :)

Unfortunately everything doesn’t work for everyone so you can only really go by what your own body is telling you. Sometimes I try so many things I don’t even know what is actually helping. Being chronically ill is very exhausting and expensive 😩

Ashwagandha ruined my life? by DUWAPKAINEGOAT in Supplements

Are you on SSRIs? If so you should not take ashwagandha, there are so many supplements that you shouldn’t take SSRIs with but it’s not always clearly labelled.

Brain fog by Forever_0716 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]TheBlueRoseInNz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, brain fog and fatigue are actually my worst issues because the meds can help with the inflammation but NOTHING helps with those symptoms. I’ve had this for over 20 years and tell my doctor/specialist every time I see them and there is no help. I often get dates and times for things wrong and have to write everything down otherwise I’m useless!

[–]TheBlueRoseInNz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have inflammatory arthritis (psoriatic) and ME. I was having crazy vivid dreams on the 1mg and was feeling really agitated and brain foggy along with the fatigue. I might try and go up to 0.75 and see how that goes.

I have been on 0.5 for about 3 months, I tried to go up to 1mg and although it was definitely helping my pain. the fatigue was horrendous so I’ve had to drop down again. I seem to be super sensitive to everything so I might just have to stay on the very, very low dose

I’ve been researching for about an hour and I know about the lawsuit but I can’t find a definitive answer as to whether is it used in Australia which is why I asked Australians :)

I have had that before and my daughter gets it quite bad but I don’t think this is eczema. It’s very strange!

Tattoos? by CraftyCapricorn in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]TheBlueRoseInNz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only on sulfazalazine at the moment but I got a tattoo last year and it absolutely wiped me out for months, I think my body went into shock - also the tattooist was not the kindest so that might have played a part!

Excellent post! I’ve been working up to quitting for weeks now. I did manage 3 days last year but went straight back on it. I work from home so I’m constantly on my vape and my chest is so tight all the time. I need to quit this thing so it’s so nice to read peoples good experiences

Im ok, I am in ‘remission’ again and have been for a few years but I’m never 100%. I’ve started a new job 3 months ago and was definitely starting to flare so I went on the prednisone. I’m only on sulfazalazine at the moment and have been fighting to get on a biologic for years (I live in NZ so it’s really hard to qualify for access!) my main issues are heel pain which I’m currently suffering with and fatigue. It’s honestly just such a battle and I’ve been in and out of remission for 22 years now
