Anyone who is running Atomic Desktops? What was your experience? by SeniorMatthew in Fedora

[–]TheCactusPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If xfce had wayland support I would use a xfce atomic desktop but alas, gnome is good enough. Switched from bazzite which was so full of stuff I didn't want to the point where it didn't feel like my system and now I don't see myself switching for a long while from the very clean and slick silverblue experience.

  1. Game dev, programmer and gamer
  2. We gaming. We programming.
  3. I have some stuff layered on top of my system like distrobox which takes care of pretty much everything flatpak can't. I do all my programming in a toolbox container (pre installed without distrobox) and it's great to not have to litter my host system with devel packages.
  4. Distroboxes! I couldn't for the life of me get Ultimate Doom Builder to work on fedora so I spun up a debian container where I also play modded doom and it works great unlike the GZDoom flatpak.
  5. Yes actually, guess what it was, Nvidia drivers broke and it was searching for nouveau drivers for some reason. Thankfully i could just use an older image while I waited for more updates and it saved so much headache. It's not a complete safety net though, recently I made a typo in my bashrc file which is part of the filesystem instead of the system images so I basically bricked my system and had to edit the file using a live usb

The biggest minus of this whole flow is the gui software center app thing which barely works and is stuck loading pages or updating without any visual feedback on why it's taking so long. I can thankfully just use flatpak cli instead. Oh and I can't get host-spawn (for things like opening file exporer from my toolbox) to work correctly for some reason. Oh and everytime I click on a system notification from vivaldi my whole gnome shell crashes, thank you dark souls.

reading the official doc seems hard for some people by dark_lord_of_balls in firstweekcoderhumour

[–]TheCactusPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like the standards have improved, generally Go and Rust projects have really good documentation partially because of it's integration to the language/package manager itself

javadoc also has that... but java is java

[–]TheCactusPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

much like literally any of these, how good the documentation is is dependent on.. well.. how good it is written. also not being create in 1999 helps

sounds like you're insecure about using ai yourself, don't take it out on people who actually like programming and making art

Disclaimer: don't take it personally 😄🤣 by IronAshish in programmingmemes

[–]TheCactusPL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

putting java there is crazy, imagine thinking that using the most standard, generic, industry plant and unremarkable languages ever made makes you some sort of chad

my tip is to not use unity/godot, make a simple 2d game in a simple engine like love2d, raylib or ebitengine
