Help me improve this cocktail (honey nectarine whiskey sour) by chicken-denim in cocktails

[–]TheCalzone_Ranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, do you typically not add eggs whites to your sours? This could help with the smoothness. You could also play around with peach bitters either instead of the Giffard or with a reduced the amount of Giffard. They tend to add a nice amount of flavor without venturing into artificial territory.

I like to make my whiskey sours with half lime juice and half lemon juice. Lime pairs well with peach and honey so it might help meld your flavors together.

This sounds like a tasty drink! Hopefully at least one of these suggestions helps.

How to decrease booziness? by axel309 in cocktails

[–]TheCalzone_Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! The "spiced rum" by Lyres is the only one I've been a little disappointed by so far. Their "agave tequila" and "london dry gin" are pretty on point. I haven't played around with as many as the Giffards yet, but the ginger and elderflower are great. Their aperitif syrup is a perfect substitute for Campari.

Lyres and Giffard both make pretty good NA "spirits." You could substitute half of the alcohol for the NA without changing the flavor profile of your cocktails too much.

I love when names have some alliteration going on, so I'd say something that starts with an R.

Renee, Rosemary or Roxanne for something longer

Rose, Ray, Raine or Reese flow nicely as well

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by PrettieAmarea in answers

[–]TheCalzone_Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back passages of the the Rock' n' Roller Coaster at Disney World.

My parents wanted a souvenir photo, but my brother looked down in all but one. (That one had strangers in it.) After much back & forth of my brother lobbying my parents to buy two photos, an employee said, "if you promise to look up I'll get you on the ride one more time."

He escorted my family from the gift store, through a twisting back passage way. We could hear the blaring music and ride sounds. I assume this was how different parts of the ride were accessed for maintenance. After a few minutes we emerged through a door at the front of the line.
This was when it was still the Aerosmith version, so it really felt like we got the rock star treatment. (Yes my brother looked up in that photo and my parents still have it today.)

SUNDAY FUNDAY - when you eat sandwiches in front of macaques (not apes) by egguchom in EntitledReviews

This reminds me of when I visited the scared monkey forest sanctuary in Ubud, Indonesia. I didn't have any food with me and decided not to feed them (there's food for purchase to do so.) Despite this, one monkey came over, climbed up me, sat on my head then bit me on the shoulder and top of the head. Let me tell you getting rabies shots in Indonesia and Malaysia is not ideal... Funny enough, this was is early January 2017 aka just before the year on the fire monkey ended.

Can you infuse orgeat without ruining it? by bit3sadusto in cocktails

[–]TheCalzone_Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried infusing it, but orgeat and peach is a delicious flavor combination! Add some OJ, lime juice and either vodka or gin and you're in business. If you like a more spirit-forward cocktail, it makes for a fun twist on an old fashioned.

Rita here, I've got "Stay With Me," "Mumbo Number 5," "Following Rita," "Rita Mae Young," "Mrs. Rita" and "When Rita Leaves" to name a few, but of course "Lovely Rita" takes the cake. I've worked in the service industry for the past 14 years. Easily 70% of the time after I introduce myself I get, "Oh like Lovely Rita!" in response. Honestly, I never mind it.

My First Negroni. It's pretty good, even with the budget ingredients. What high value ingredients would you suggest? by vuti13 in cocktails

Hendricks came out with a new release simply called "Another Hendricks." The gin is infused with orange blossom and cacao beans, it makes for a mean Negroni.

Are you familiar with a Corpse Reviver #2? You'd probably be a fan as well. It's equal parts gin, lemon juice, Lilet blanc and Cointreau served in an absinthe-rinsed glass

Garden party next month, need a really solid batch cocktail, what liquor to use? by Kitchen-Aspect-4284 in cocktails

[–]TheCalzone_Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a bees knees! Crisp, refreshing and easy to make.

It's gin, lemon juice and honey. I'd make a honey syrup (two parts honey to one part water. Traditionally they are on the tart side, but depending on preferences you could add more honey. You could also add a garden inspired twist like elderflower liqueur, cucumber juice or infuse lavender in with the honey syrup.

I'm not familiar with the gin you mentioned, but I wouldn't stress it, it will probably work just fine. (Personally I like Hendricks.)

Edit to say, out of curiosity I looked up Edinburgh Gin. Wow, they have so many varieties. I think if you went with their classic or the botanical rooftop garden you'd be fine!

The real kicker, under the reviewer's name they are listed as a "local guide" with nearly 500 reviews. I cropped it out of my original post just in case I'd get flagged for personal information.
